And even forgetting pay, a chance to fight for (at least what used to be) sports richest prize. Yes, WBC (lineal) is not on the line, but several belts are.

Picking Wood, Lopez and Okolie. All by decision. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭normanoffside

Looks like Lara vs Wood could be off.

Apparently Lara weighed in too heavy on a Wednesday weight check so the BBofC refused to let him weigh in at Featherweight.

    he weighed in at 130lbs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,925 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Huh? 4 lbs over with 48 hrs to go and they not allowing it proceed?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭normanoffside

No I think he was something like 134 lbs on Wednesday so they said it was not safe for him to weigh less than 128.5lbs today. So he was effectively forced to miss weight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,925 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Ok. So 134 (8 lbs over) with 48 hours to go is high alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭normanoffside

I think it's just a BBofC rule. In other jurisdictions he would have been allowed to cut 8lbs in 2 days and he probably could have done if allowed to do so. He was probably just coming off a transatlantic flight and as a result holding a lb or two more in water weight than normal.

It kind of makes a mockery of the fight now if it does go ahead, no title on the line for Lara but surely Wood is already at a huge disadvantage given that Lara didn't have to cut weight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,994 ✭✭✭squinn2912

Even if Dubois loses this fight it’s a great profile fight for him. If he wins then he names his own money. He can’t turn down a go at the belts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,925 ✭✭✭✭walshb

So Wood came in on the weight and if he wins, he is new champion. Lara came in at 129.x

    stripped of belt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭normanoffside

Yeah but Lara only came in heavy because the BBofC said that if he came in under 128.5 they would cancel the fight. Now Wood is at a serious disadvantage.

The whole thing is a shambles.

I wouldn’t call it a serious disadvantage. Wood can now relax and add weight.

We’re taking a few lbs. Lara was 129, not like he was strolling to the scales at 135 all fresh and fed.

I agree it’s unfair that Wood cuts to make weight and Lara doesn’t; I just think a “serious disadvantage” is an exaggeration.

If I was team Wood I’d try see the advantage. The discipline and professionalism of my boxer versus the confusion and stress of the opponent (who is struggling to make weight and struggling to do things properly). It’s not like Lara didn’t even try. He still came in sub 130.

This shambles (for Lara) should be seen by Wood and his team as their advantage. Let’s be honest, it’s 3-4 lbs on a scales. Tomorrow night all is forgotten.

and can’t be at all nice (advantageous) knowing you’ve just had your world title taken off you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭normanoffside

Looking at the weighin video, Lara looked very gaunt in the face and had to strip off just to get under 130.

    Maybe the BBofC were right.

I think we won’t see Lara at featherweight again after this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,925 ✭✭✭✭walshb

When you also factor in that Wood has the relaxed comforts of being the home fighter and Lara having to proper travel, I think Wood’s in a good place here

    You're wrong on two points.

Lomachenko was robbed in this fight and GGG was robbed in the FIRST fight vs Canelo.

    Read more carefully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,925 ✭✭✭✭walshb

The only right/wrong here is your not having a notion of how professional judges judge boxing matches!

and no reason at all for me to read more carefully: You may need to brush up on your memory though. You on April 16, 11:49 pm

“I think Eagle Eye is grossly overrating Joe Joyce - a 37 year old that has beaten even less than me.

Let's not get carried away though, GGG quite clearly beat Canelo in the first two fights.”

Lol when you're using boxing judges as your mountain to die on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,925 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Just let it go. You called the result corruption without a shred of evidence bar your own silly logic about scoring bouts.: That being, if I don’t agree with then it’s corruption. Laughable.

And you also claimed both GGG-Canelo fights were roberries..

but at least you did get something right: you picked Tank to beat the quitter, Garcia!!!😅

  • Posts: 13,688 ✭✭✭✭ Maren Chubby Sunblock

Again, kid, you're still dying on Mt. Boxing Judge.

I can admit when I'm wrong, I watch fights back - good ones repeatedly.

The first GGG vs. Cancelo was a thorough robbery...CORRUPTION - keeping the golden goose cooking.

I personally scored the 2nd fight for GGG but I can understand the MD for Canelo.

As for the third...GGG was how old?

Under no circumstance can I see a UD for Haney.

Ok, so you can understand the MD for Canelo in fight 2, yet you said GGG clearly won both, and fight 1 was corruption. You have me head spinning, so we’ll say goodnight now!!!

Teo-Taylor Saturday. Pretty big fight. Was reading Ring article that analysed the fight and gave its picks. All 20 analysts/pundits asked are picking Taylor to win.

fook it: Teo via KO for me!!!

    Great fight.

On the surface, Teo seems to be a bit of a mess in his personal life, mindset.

Has anyone seen Callum Walsh fight? Is he a legitimate prospect or nah? He is fighting Carson Jones tonight. Haven't heard of Carson Jones in 10 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,925 ✭✭✭✭walshb

He’s been looking very impressive on offence, but as always, best to wait until he fights an actual decent boxer/fighter. Carson is a half decent test really. Crafty lad who can take a punch

Teo looks and sounds messed up and he seems to have struggled more than Taylor to make 140. I see Taylor stopping him or giving him a solid points defeat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,925 ✭✭✭✭walshb

I don’t think Teo stripping to make weight is a possible indicator that he struggled more to make 140 compared to Taylor. I think he may have deliberately chose to come in bang on 140 lbs to possibly play lil mins games. Either to lul Taylor into thinking he struggled, or to show Taylor that he’s a proper 140 lber

god I hope Taylor gets stuffed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,994 ✭✭✭squinn2912

I’ve backed Taylor but he has the demeanour of a guy who is about to learn a very harsh reality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,917 ✭✭✭Morrison J

Lopez has lost a tonne of advantages since he's moved up to 140. Reminds me a bit of Mikey Garcia in that way. Explosive puncher at 135 but nowhere near the same force after moving up. Feel very confident in a Taylor win.

  • Registered Users Posts: 417 ✭✭Robert Nairac

I fancy Taylor to win comfortably. Not sure Teofimo should be fighting.

Adrien Broner looked horrible in the comeback fight he had on a Don King card last night. He has nothing left to offer.

Nobody has any idea how a 16 months layoff and Taylor still making 140 has affected him.

Personally I think his rise to undisputed was the easiest journey ever to undisputed. And I don’t think all that much about the opponents and their almost perfect records.

    Teo could surprise him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭normanoffside

Sunny Edwards is like a pound shop version of Pernell Whittaker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,980 ✭✭✭OmegaGene

The commentator said he’s the arguably the uk pound for pound fighter right now, he was not great to watch at all tonight

someone said he’s a modern day prince naseem fmd

    The internet isn’t for everyone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭normanoffside

Hamed could punch though…Edwards is just not very good, any relentless hard punching fighter will humble him.

  • Registered Users Posts: 417 ✭✭Robert Nairac

Those little boy fights do nothing for me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 417 ✭✭Robert Nairac

    Teofimo beating Josh Taylor up.

Edit: Teofimo dominated the fight, hurt Taylor repeatedly. Teofimo won at least 9 rounds.

    Very good fight.

two surprises: Taylor better than I thought he would be, and Teo much better than I thought he would be

clear win. Teo landed much cleaner and harder throughout. And excellent stamina

Taylor is not near as good as some make out. Said he had no excuses about ten times, yet the subtle “I’ll move up to 147.” Wait for it, in a few days the excuses will flow.

Not a bad call. Why can I never, ever bet on my hunches!

Currently watching Loma vs Haney. I have Loma well up early on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,925 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Teo winning the 12th was key. Had he not then it’s a majority draw.. I had it 117-111.

Taylor’s work (similar to Catterall fight) consisted of him smothering and spoiling. Not pretty. Teo far more skilled and clean

Clear win for Teo who for me was very clean and on pint all night.. I had it 116-112.

The Munguia fight was a barn burner by all accounts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,550 ✭✭✭✭blade1

Taylor post fight saying he knows he can beat him.🙄

Had absolutely nothing to deter Teo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,925 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Pillow fists and his offense is based off swarming/smothering.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,550 ✭✭✭✭blade1

Also Teo had him read like a book after around 4 rounds.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,613 ✭✭✭iebamm2580

Taylor was never likeable and as walshb says his rise to undisputed was freakishly easy. Another McGuigan fighter who is going the wrong way after leaving him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,925 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Yes. Very hard to warm to.

just on his rise: the chap would be a big WW, but boiled to 140 for years to feast on not all that good smaller men. His MO against his best opposition was to smother and swarm and use his clear size advantage to win ugly. He and Prograis did give us a truly amazing scrap, so I’ll give him that.

But as regards boxing skills and being great, Taylor has now been twice badly exposed against two skill full boxers, who didn’t allow (and were not overwhelmed by him) using his physical advantages to bully.

Teo really did dominate as regards offensive skills. The only time it was close was exactly as above; Taylor trying to be rough and ugly with his physical presence.

delighted he got beaten. And against quality WWs he is a nobody

Yes prograis i was expecting to beat Taylor so tbf that was a good win. McGuigan seems to be good trainer judging by what his fighters achieve and then what happens when they leave but something must be very off in the gym for so many fighters to leave bitterly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,925 ✭✭✭✭walshb

I’d be very sure a rematch at 140 with another fit and ready Teo sees him KO Taylor

like I thought: no excuses no excuses. A day or so later. “I strayed from the game plan.”

no, you didn’t. Teo adapted and adjusted and figured out the game plan and beat you!!

The McGuigan's go through a lot of fighters so something is definitely off. But has anyone really improved since switching camp? Because I can't really think of anyone.
