If it was just a harmless cameo, then why not leave it in? , especially giving that Affleck is already in there and is also departing in the same manner.

The more I think about it, the more it looks like they’ve made an effort to keep him out.

He is. I like him myself, he’s perfectly cast as Superman and also Geralt in The Witcher. It’s just a little weird the way he’s been so categorically dropped from both.

I was always under the impression that he left voluntarily there? I would’ve imagined it was due to the promise of more Superman work, but then that fell through due to the changes at DC. Just unlucky timing.

Because it was a cameo after all was "fixed" so now they are using the end as a reboot so be weird to have Cavill Superman in it. Afleck is in the start of the movie before the snap. Why would they have done a cameo if they didn't want him. Gunn set out his plan. A new Superman was the call so the sequel was not going to happen, so they took it out. It is just as simple as that

Well, however he left Cavill is now heading the Warhammer 40k universe, so he has transitioned onwards to a nerd property I finally couldn't give a fig about. Wish him luck mind, he's obviously living the dream being a massive Warhammer fan.

The Flash movie will help lead to a reboot of the DCU. Cavill was out as Superman so wasn't in the film. Then they decided to have Cavill return as Superman, so he was in the post credits of Black Adam and filmed a cameo for The Flash. However the plans changed again when Gunn and Safran came on board and the decision was made to reboot pretty much the entire DCU, so now there's no point having Cavill's cameo since he's now not returning. It just leads to confusion especially since everyone now knows he's not returning.

The blame doesn't lie with anything Cavill has done (or at least there's no evidence of that), but rather Warner Bros not having a clue what they're doing and chopping and changing their plans so often.

As for The Witcher, again he wasn't dropped from The Witcher, he made the decision to leave. Mostly due to disagreements with the writers deviating from the source material in ways he wasn't happy with, and because he was going to be returning as Superman.

You're looking for controversy where there currently is none. His botched return to the role of Superman was down to mismanagement by WB more than anything else. They decided to bring him back, then brought in Gunn and Safran to reboot the DCU, and their plans for the DCU and Superman just doesn't suit Cavill due to his age and the history of Cavill's version of Superman.

There was a short trailer for this before Shazam! Fury of the Gods and I thought it had decent build-up hype in it.

A new pic has been released here of Michael Keaton in his batsuit although it's showing him without his cowl.

I wonder where this would be shown in the movies plot. Any ideas?

Ooh now. Keaton's Batman is putting us back into some familiar territory regarding Batman 89 Easter Eggs.

    Watch here for more details.

EDIT: New trailer is out on April 25th.

Some of the CGI looks too rubbery, and Keaton's Batman outside of Tim Burton's world looks wrong. Cool to see Supergirl appear in film but noteworthy how her introduction to DC movies is, invariably, a dark & tortured version as opposed to the sunny, optimistic version of the TV show.

wash your mouth out :) thought it looked great but why is it not called Batmans & supergirl

What do you mean Batgirl? After her appearance in Batman and Robin I dont see her re-appearing any time soon. Batwoman also was terrible in her own tv show,

Michael Keaton was a great Batman, but for me his presence in film is entirely tied into that unique world & its aesthetics. Pulling him out of that into a jumble of CGI dolls jumping about just doesn't gel with me. I think also I've just become entirely deadened by these "Legacy Sequels" and bringing old actors back for one last outing.

Like most modern comic book movies I think you are gonna have to just go with whatever they throw at us here and leave the brain outside as you go into the cinema.

I think rogue one (and Andor) is one of the few movies to really capture the original universe without looking too futuristic and out of place. But they didn’t have to shoehorn in characters who require modern special effects that make it look out of place. Indeed using old stock footage for the red/gold leader attack at the end only enhanced the originals.

Flash in the DC , along with supergirl and zod just doesn’t fit in on any level in Tim Burtons universe. So having MKs Batman doesn’t really allow it IMO.

Im interested to see what they offer , but I think it’s more a case of some maybe funny moments , some nostalgia of seeing old characters (batmans , Zod and Faora-UI in particular) and possibly some cool set pieces or combos.

Any more expectations than that and you deserve to be dissapointed if you goto see it! 😂

At this point I'm just surprised this movie is seeing the light of day after the protracted attempts to get it made.

I think Keaton's return is pure Memberberries and tbh the trailers haven't shaken the sense this is less a Flash movie than his presence a thin excuse for Bats and Supes to headline. The Zod twist was a pleasantly surprising one, as I'd never have thought Michael Shannon would have had any interest in returning to the role.

But ultimately, with this version of DC dead in the water, my main issues is that feeling of utter redundancy. Maybe they did some reshoots to setup the upcoming universe reset - it'd be a natural fit - but it has kinda set the film up to fail.

Shame Ezra miller is such a douchebag in real life as he's a very likeable Barry Allen. I'm on the hype train for this movie, reviews are positive and I think it will do well!

A new TV spot is basically mostly Batman & SuperGirl.

Could it be that we actually get a good DC movie before the DCEU finishes and a new DC universe begins?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,563 ✭✭✭✭peteeeed

Batman & Supergirl is what i said it should be called

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,501 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

I didn't watch it, so no idea how spoilerific it is.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Watched it: it basically hits all the same beats as previous trailers, just with slightly different footage.

And the more I hear it, the more I've come to hate them using the "let's get nuts" line like it's something. Oh he said the line, even though it makes no sense out of context now, bark like a seal you schmos.

There are spoilers milling about from those who have been at Advanced Screenings; cos I officially don't give a hoot for the DCEU anymore I sought them out out of sheer curiosity. It all sounds ... messy, if the comments are to be believed.
