Victory day parade organised in Dublin by the Russian supporters

How is it possible that Russian supporters can organise a parade in Dublin to support Russia?

Event will take place in Western Industrial Estate D12 on May 7th

One of the Ukrainian refugees pointed out to me that there will be a parade organised by the Russian embassy outfit on facebook with the direct stream to Russian propaganda channels.

Permit granted by the Dublin council and security provided by the Garda

After the comments made by the their ambassador and what they are doing in Ukraine how is it possible?

    Leaflet attached

Any Russian that participates in the parade should lose their Irish passport, be deported anyway - banned from ever entering this country again.

Are they not exercising their democratic right to free association?

It's called freedom and being in a free country. Let them have their façade. They're only fooling themselves. Best ignored.

Molotov cocktails , Russians don't like Molotov cocktails,

    Hilariously fake flyer though

  • Registered Users Posts: 572 ✭✭✭glen123

Flyer could be fake but Russian speaking in Ireland FB group has the announcement about it all right.

Then again, celebrating Victory Day against Nazis in which so many nationalities took part and supporting Russia (with Russia not mentioned in either leaflet or on FB) isn’t that straightforward to ban as technically they are very different things.

I thought it would be somewhere public. But Western Industrial Estate? Home to Drain Doctor and various courier depots? Bizarre.

Is the industrial estate not privately owned ? Surely the estate management could and would disallow that.

It’s going to be Road run first,by the looks of it.Then they ll have bbq but in a different location going by the below FB post I found as location of the bbq will be given to the drivers when they gather for the run?

No taking part in a road run, no food😀

Agree with this Jim. I cannot emphasise enough how much I fundamentally disagree with this group. But I don't think they should be banned from being allowed to peacefully assemble like anyone else.

OP, it's possible for these Russians to organise this parade in Dublin because we're not Russia. I think it'd be very hypocritical to ban them from doing so while we rightly all condemn Russia for engaging in similar tactics.

Let's laugh at them and make our own informed opinions. See how small a group they are and disagree with them. But you can't ban them because you disagree with them.

It's also good to show that people with these views exist so that we don't get complacent. So that the majority can acknowledge they exist rather than block them off and pretend they don't.

There's no mute or block button in real life and their right to assemble should be respected. Not that they themselves have to be respected or that they'd afford us the same respect.

But because we disagree with them, doesn't mean we can sensor them. In fact, I think it's even more dangerous as it allows certain groups to grow underground and slowly bubble away, gradually increasing their influence in people's mindset.

Shine a light on them, allow them to be seen, and have a rational and logical approach as to why they're wrong. When we forget, society gets lax and they grow.

Somewhere in Dublin a Ukranian buys a drone.

The usual leftie activists, no one else Irish will be at it.

    Don't give them any attention.

Except when it's far-right Nazis and so on, the left want them banned.

But when Russians want to support what is effectively a Nazi-esque invasion and genocide of Ukraine, the same voices say, "best ignored".

    You're either consistent or you're a hypocrite.

    It doesn't work like that,

Russian don't think logically the best approach to situations is shining light and thinking you can educate them,

Don't think we will get any volunteers for that ,

Nah fcuk that. People should counter protest with Ukranian flags n banners.

This march is not a commemorate ww2 event, its an pro Putin pro war propaganda spectacle. Fcuk em.

The roads of the WIE are public. Still and all, it's a strange location.

This is a traditional national day for Russians going back to WWII, one they rightfully celebrate as the western allies still celebrate VE day.

There is a strong and pretty much irredeemable bigoted ultra-nationalism attached to all the celebrating Russians do. In other words, it is seldom not at someone else's expense.

So, this event should be discretely policed, but if the slightest bit of anti-Ukranian activity or symbology emerges, it should be shut down and dispersed immediately.

    ok… thanks.

however, if we are talking a few hundred people, or more, have the Gardai the resources to disperse such a crowd safely ?

I know the Gardai police major sports events but those don’t have the same possibility of unrest, malice, menace and difficulty….

also I’m sure the estate will have people working even on a Sunday, most industrial areas will, even on a small scale, there would be security, warehousing people etc….even deliveries of inventory before the working week.

wonder will the Russians use it as a show of strength ? Maybe a bit pissed about the solidarity shown here for the Ukrainians and they’ve had their collective ego offended … so what might transpire ? VE celebrations or a nationalistic shot across the bow aka shît stirring ? Be interesting either way. Why now ? :). Odd timing. Eh.

Western Industrial estate really is nowhere town though.

A concrete corner in subsector 7G. 35 industry way. If you want no-one to care about a parade its perfect. And on a Sunday.

If Russia is so great, why are these Putin lovers living here?

Hmmm...I wonder what the word is for applying one characteristic to an entire nation of people and every celebration they have.

So, this event should be discretely policed, but if the slightest bit of anti-Ukranian activity or symbology emerges, it should be shut down and dispersed immediately.

Sure we all know when foreign people land on this shore they instantly become Irish. The ridiculous truth is that many will more than likely have Irish citizenship, and by definition, are Irish. As Irish citizens they are allowed to hold their opinion no matter who dislikes it.

Nope. Some are, then there are the ultra-nationalists, and then all the other shades of opinion.

For many it would be Latvia and Ukraine, btw, if you knew who had participated in this annual event for many years going back to at least 2010 ))

  • Registered Users Posts: 123 ✭✭64869923

Of those who live here many are Irish citizens, they are merely celebrating their heritage/history. That's whether any of us like it or not.
