    Eerily calm in Galway.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,332 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

Same. We must be in the slack gradient at the moment between the two lows mentioned by M.T. Cranium.

That was a wild night! Still gusty this morning, clear skies though there are dark clouds to the west. Could hear the roof tiles rattling most of the night, especially 2-3 and then 5-6 also. No damage thankfully

Wild enough in the early hours in Galway for a while there was thunder and lightning around 2am in a very heavy shower very quite at the moment heavy rain moving in from the West.

Wind coming on to the west coast now. Mace Head gusting 117 km/h at 1100.

Seems to be a covering of snow on the Galtees to lower levels, someone nearer might have pictures.

Yellow - Wind Warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Derry

    Above warning is now gone.

6 counties wind warning also removed by M.E.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭ascophyllum

Mace Head always gets very high wind readings, especially in a NW wind, it's a little flat peninsula sticking out into the sea with little to diminish the flow of wind. Looking at the 6z models, the low is a bit more elongated to the North and maybe not as potent? I seem to remember this happening last year with a little system too, where the low moved a bit north and lost shape as it reached Ireland. The odd gust but nothing crazy 15km inland in Mayo right now.

12 counties overall removed from the wind warning this morning so yeah definitely were changes. The red marine warning was downgraded just before midnight as well.

What a disaster of a forecast, just as well they didnt name it. All oranges warnings removed now including orange and red marine warnings

just a regular windy day here in Mayo.

Wind is gathering now again east Galway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,290 ✭✭✭pauldry

This is just a fast moving jet really. Very hard to pick down winds but some respectable gusts so far. I'd say after midday to 5pm sligo will hv gusts of 90 to 110 kph in a direct NW wind so dangerous enough.

    Getting gusty in Galway now.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Mt cranium forecast was spot on 100%. wind blowing up east Galway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,332 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

Breezy, but nothing out of the ordinary so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,333 ✭✭✭sunbabe08

Down here in youghal, the shed roof has blown off and the other shed has moved. 👀

    still fairly windy down here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,332 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

Yes, the most noticeable thing so far in this region is the wind chill, as you say otherwise it's just a standard windy day. You may have heard it said once before, but if only this was two months ago we'd be likely having heavy snow on lower ground now instead of cold rain.

Biden won’t be travelling to Louth by helicopter because of the weather. Motorcade it is.

Seems as will verify as a yellow wind event for many counties.

Dont remember anything overly dramatic being forecast

There are some heavy gusts here in North Clare today. I think it’s one of the more potent storms that has come this way in the past year. It’s as bad now I think as it was at 6AM this morning. I’d venture it’s worse actually so the warnings seem a little off for here at least.

I think many people were caught out in that we haven't had a decent storm for a long time. There is a lot of rubbish and stuff blowing around people's gardens including my own!

Has calmed down a good bit in Galway now but can get gusty in the squally showers.

Mace Head hit 117 gust at 11am. Athenry seems to be on the blink but is now recording 60s or 70s only.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Some large branches broken of trees around Galway racecourse damaging the perimeter fencing and blocking the ambulance road, not sure what time of the day it happened.

    Thought I posted this morning.

Definitely bit of everything today. Windscreen frozen at 645. Cold and dry morning. One manky afternoon of rain now and fairly blustery.

Dark and baltic out. 7⁰ Meath

Heavy rain and blustery in South Wicklow now. Nothing crazy wind-wise but forecast to peak in the next 1-2 hours according to Met Eireann. Be glad to see the back of this system and look forward to some warmth and sunshine next week.

Wind has arrived in Greystones. Gusting 45 knots atm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭ascophyllum

Most stations gusting over 70kmph at 5pm, Roches Point recorded an average of 74 and gust of 102, several over 80kmph, not often you see Belmullet one of the lowest on 69, shock to the system for a lot of the country today. Mostly clear skies in West Mayo since 3 or so.

very wet earlier. but seems to have blown through pretty quickly here in sw donegal.

Max. wind gusts for Irish stations as of now with Storm Noa. I also threw in Hannah from April 2019 as it was the most recent April named storm, rather than the big storm comparison table which I will reserve now for more significant events.

As anticipated, the vast majority have had wind gusts that do not reach yellow warning territory and any orange warranted gusts have been on exposed coasts. Hannah was generally more of a notable event than Noa relatively speaking.

    *Durrow figure is not confirmed.

Very pleasant evening in Galway now. Sun is out.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

    Who named it Storm Noa?

Fair amount of branches around Sligo but not sure we got much above 100kph in gusts.

That's it for a long while now. Quiter weather incoming except heavy hail today.
