Frank Keane in Dublin. My order was for a Black Long Range Excite.

As with everything car related, get it done officially by a dealer and expect to pay way more than getting it done elsewhere....

is there a way to track the current state of your order? I haven't received any emails or letter to even confirm my order. Is this normal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,235 ✭✭✭Patser

From what I can gather, MG China are simply sending over whatever cars they produce, in no particular order and then contacting MG Ireland as they arrive - going we've 15 blue Exclusives, 7 white Excites, 8 grey Excite LE who wants what!

As opposed to 'you are number 120 in queue, Orange Exclusive selected, estimated time...'

So it's all a bit chaotic and poor old dealers are none the wiser than buyer, almost until they arrive and the luck so far seems more down to colour than anything else. Haven't heard of a single orange in Ireland but plenty of blue and grey

Anyone explain this, Franke Keane had the top range model for 37k that's with the extra €700 added on for the gray color. Linder's are quoting just over 35k. Sales rep said there will be an added charge come Monday as prices are going up?

I saw an Orange one in Lucan a couple of weeks ago, it looked great

I paid FK 35.5 for my Blue exclusive - blue is non premium - and also haggled them down on their delivery/extras charges. They were 'offering' things like paint insurance, wind deflectors etc.

So minus the €700 premium paint and extras that would make it €37k. Linders probably aren't including their delivery charges in that.

Price increase probably due to grant changes that kick in in July, €1,500 less grant available so price increases. Although UK had the MG4 price increase at start of the year, and Spain, just because there was demand.

Prices seem to have gone up. I paid €36,045 OTR for a Grey Exclusive.

if we're inclined to call a spade a spade here, that spade is known as price gouging.

That'll put a nail in it for me if it applies across the board. €2k is quite a jump considering it was less than that in the UK! I wonder if they will honour the prices of those who have already booked.

Irish dealerships are rubbish at this stuff. The car will come when it comes. If you can get your sales exec on the phone, this might be your best bet but generally, you can't track cars in this country unless you order from one of the buy online brands like Tesla or Polestar.

Those guys are well known for changing the price you pay at the last minute.

Oh sorry sir, i have to add delivery charges, that will be an extra €900.

Oh sorry sir, the value of your trade in has gone down, that will be an extra €1000 please.

Oh sorry sir, the paint you ordered has gone up by €500. That will be an extra €200 please.

€2k extra for the car plus an extra €1500 for the lower grant.

If you order before March 31st, they'll honour the current price (at least Linders will)

If they're considering a diesel they're doing big enough mileage so they'd likely still save with an EV that has a €2k bump when you factor in cheaper running costs, servicing, tax etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 387 ✭✭pandabat

Think the important words there are "second-hand diesel" though - some significant upfront savings can be made there in comparison to new EV prices.

I queried FK €37k as opposed to the €36045 all in price for same model with grey colour from Linders. Oh it’s the protection plan that’s optional I was then told.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,235 ✭✭✭Patser

Yeah, I was only aware of it because someone else here queried it way back in last October, when order book opened. So I went in ready to haggle.

Sneaky way to maximise profit, but Boards strikes again

These were the two price lists from Frank Keane/Linders in January (only have Linders Excite LR price unfortunately).

As noted above, Frank Keane list the price is with the optional extras (extra €1000 on Linders vehicle price for the Excite LR). At least Linders give the base price, then the add-ons priced separately.

Once GAP and Supagard removed from the extras", FK charging €200 for mats and wind deflectors...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,051 ✭✭✭mad m

Yeah same price as above but the optional extras thrown in. I got a docu sign request sent to me so I’ll be saying to amend minus the extras

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,235 ✭✭✭Patser

FK don't even have the wind deflectors (hence tbc), at least when I collected but was given a pack of cleaning stuff...

Think I got rid of paint protection and depreciation insurance (something like that)

Shiels limerick charged 28,500 for excite standard range and only got mats

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 292 ✭✭olympicweights

Approximately €29,250 with metallic in Shiels Limerick including mats. Maybe a higher delivery charge?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 93 ✭✭baziled13

Grey and black are 700 extra if you have either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 292 ✭✭olympicweights

    Grey👍

I spoke with Johnson and Perrott Cork Yesterday. My car is “In production “ no firm date for delivery.I asked about changes in the Grant and was told the car would be here way before that , there is a ship due here shortly mine won’t be on it. Interestingly they said there are just under 600 on order I presume that’s nationwide

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 569 ✭✭✭doctorg

They have also said that they'll apply for the grant before the end of June and that'll be valid for 4 months. Although I don't know how trustworthy J&P sales is
