Colder weather for Emma meant smaller powdery snow, you always get larger flakes when its a marginal situation due to higher water content.

Cold and Rain in North East Wicklow.

    Yuck!

We did need the precipitation as it has been very dry.

The same here most likely. I am not seeing many posts from the likes of squarecircles and others in the North West, which would suggest there are not significant accumulations in many places further north. The fact the orange warning has been lifted for all but the east is telling . I would love to be pleasantly surprised but i don't see many areas in Connacht, bar high ground getting 10 to 20 cms of snow. This is not to downplay that this event has delivered for other areas further south, and may well do so later on in the east . Giveitholly made a good point earlier, forecasting what happens with snow can catch the best out!

The orange warning has been lifted?

Since when? Still in place in Met.ie.

I think the poster who talked of updated orange warnings has misunderstood. The orange warning is still there for the western half of the country (only) for tonight, its from midnight that only the east has an orange warning. That itself is surprising, guidance I've seen suggested any snow in the east was before midnight....

Orange warning still in operation for the west. heavy sleet here by the coast.

"Dublin under an orange warning for snow now, do we need to send a 'work from home' email to team"?

I check the site and its already down

I will tell you what Met Eireann are fairly trigger happy applying and removing warnings in such short periods of time. One things for sure, I know I was right not to mention the S word to my kids!! ha ha

Its bone dry all morning in Sligo. The precipitation radar echoes posted in the thread are not representative for the Sligo area for whatever reason today. Someone else highlighted it earlier in the thread as well.

    5.6kWp - SW (220 degrees) - North Sligo

Which Dublin though. I'm sure South County Dublin should get a bit. Takes a lot for here in the city centre.

South Laois snow turned to rain and all washed away now. Hoping it will snow again later and tonight so the kids get a few minutes of fun.

I remember that well, my mother collected me from Primary school and we headed to town, in the lashing rain. Sure by the time we where heading home, the bus couldn't get any further than Newlands Cross for the snow, we had to get off and walk home... we live up by where liffey valley is now.... still haven't gotten the cold out of my bones 30 years later 😂

It's going exactly as gfs predicted which should also mean back to snow tonight!! Of course it's wildly different to what Met Eireann said

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 487 ✭✭KingdomRushed

Ah I see that now! Still not saying 'owt to the kids however. Lol

Heavy rain now in Waterford, I'm sure will be lots of freezing rain tonight and roads could be lethal tomorrow morning for lots of the country.

Edit: I'm still praying for that 0.000001% chance of snow down here 😁

On the coast here in north Dublin from sleet creeping in (this will be back to only rain soon). The main snow risk for Dublin is late tonight after 11pm most likely.

A raw bitter wind gusting and an occasional spatter of liquid... I will venture outside again later!....But the windchill Ay me! Glad there are so many delighted folk out there Especially the children - of all ages...

    You're mistaken.

The front page of the Met Éireann site shows a composite of two sequential Orange warnings, Leinster including Dublin is under one from this evening.

The rain is immense in cork, I think flooding has been given an oversight due to the snow. Plenty of roads starting to flood from the reports I'm hearing.

Ah my mistake. I should have checked it myself first. I would still be of the view the Orange Warning is not merited for many areas in Connacht . This issue has come up before, especially in the bigger counties , where one area maybe be experiencing conditions warranting a warning whilst other locations are clearly not.

Rain is biblical in cork city lads, and I’m on my way to the airport….enjoy suckas! :-P Seruouslu though got a tidal wave of water on our windscreen just now from a van going in other direction, take care out there, bad flooding already.

I agree in a county as big as mayo where it pissing down rain at the coast right now and snowing further inland, youd think with a budget of 21 million they could go into a bit more detail, so many people wondering wheres the snow after last nights forecast by Siobhan Ryan.

Gerry on News at 1 is saying it's a bit up in the air, most likely will be after midnight verging towards the east.
