Started to rain here in east Dublin at around 11pm last night, didn't stop all night and is still lashing now.

Even if it does snow later the ground will be so saturated it probably won't stick. Might be icy later overnight.

Thin covering in north Waterford, pretty, though doubt it will last long.

Thanks Rebel. I was fairly confident it would snow based on what models were showing. I always include my area as Connacht in forecasts due to being on the northern tip of Munster and because of elevation. Expecting a period of sleet or Ice pellets for the afternoon before more snow later based on models. Would say the arpege, harmonie, Arome, JMA and GEM had my area spot on. Less so GFS, UK and ECM.

The mountains got snow which in itself is good 👍

It will stick if it gets heavy enough. I have the same issue, nothing sticking bar the grass. If this was a month ago or so the temperatures would be colder and the ground too. This is unfortunately the issue with snow at this time of year. Although I see its not an issue for WolfeEire and others on high ground! High ground will always do better.

Just wet slosh here on the coast in west Mayo, amazing how wrong the forecast can be.

Made it from Tralee to Dublin In 4 1/2 hours. Road from Castleisland to kildare was atrocious.

Trucks and cars stuck on thr hill heading south from Newcastle west. It was like a slalom course getting by.

Fun part is that I get to do it in reverse this afternoon 😁

That's some rain. Haven't had rain like this in weeks. Dropped a load of school kids to a soccer tournament. Horrible wet conditions for it.

Quick change in intensity in Galway city and the roads turned white very quickly.

Latest guidance looks stronger for moderate to heavy snow production across Connacht and Ulster, 850 mb temp profile is better on 06z model run than it appeared on 00z, 850-700 mb frontogenesis runs into a brick wall soon as it drifts north, meaning that heavier snowfall rates are likely to develop from Galway to south Ulster. Also the dry air over further north regions should saturate soon and allow snow to reach the ground. The potential for thundersnow (and local thunderstorm rain in Cork to Waterford region) looks promising too. Expect this to keep intensifying all day and peak early evening when it begins to reverse course and pivot south.

Biblical rain now in Cork. If this falls as snow "up the country" ye will be snowed in. I'm in no way jealous, I just love cold rain.

😂😂 Let’s hope that intensity does travel northwards and it falls as heavy snow.

Are you expecting more snow for mid Clare today / tonight?
