Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

They called me today. I had requested a start date for July and that's what they are going to go with so that's why they haven't called me. Happy days.

Yes her name starts with a J, I had her for a interview a good few years and she grilled me, Didn't get the job then but got it 2 years later with different people doing interview

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 132 ✭✭Dave_Dublin

Thanks for that. Yes, I thought so at the time too.

She was dismissed when she tried to do the same to another person in the office - - both our records were supposed to have been wiped clean but obviously they were not since it was mentioned on a reference-seeking call quite a while afterwards.

    • Yes, I did apply 5 years ago and reapplied at the start of this month.

I don't know if she recognized me from the previous interview or if she just treated me like that a second time!?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 132 ✭✭Dave_Dublin

Well, I got the rejection email at 18:53 this evening.

"I refer to you application for Professional Bus Driver.

...you do not meet the required standard for a position at Dublin Bus"

They called my references on Monday. I'm just wondering how long before you get a call, I requested a start date for August and they said they'll see what they can do. I'm just wondering will that delay them calling me to let me know if I got the job

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 sanfranskitso

Cheers for reply I was worried about it been treated for bp since 27 on a aspirin also , but my bp has been perfect every year , I'm not the type to lie about it , I know a lad working there he just didn't tell them I couldn't do that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 sanfranskitso

Oh yeah did you tell them? Also did they ask fir your doctor to respond?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 Scouse Gary

Yeah I told them about it. I got a list of medications from my doctor and gave it to them. I know a few other lads who were on medication for blood pressure and it wasn't a problem

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 sanfranskitso

If you put a request in for August most likely they will call you in August happened a few lad's

    Hi all,

I have the driving assessment on Tuesday morning. Just wondering where people parked before going in. And do you need a copy of your CV for the interview? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,844 ✭✭✭rx8

Bring your CV. Better to have it and not need it..... etc.

Drive up the ramp and turn left into Phibsboro garage and you'll find a spot on the left among the other driver's cars. The driving assessment is in a Nissan Leaf. (Electric and Automatic) Super easy to drive, so you can concentrate on the rules of the road.

Got a start date for August happy days. Just wondering what clothes would you wear on first day in training centre, jeans and t shirt or shirt and trousers

Something comfortable, you'll probably be given some form of temporary uniform on the first day anyways.

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭EIDW

Passed the cpc case study last Monday rang Dublin Bus to let them know, i got a call back yesterday and was sent the online and written assessment got a call this morning and was told i passed iv a driving test and interview tomorrow didnt think they would move his fast 😅

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,406 ✭✭✭PirateShampoo

It's because they are stuffed for drivers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭EIDW

Done the driving test this morning and passed that but the interview was a disaster 😬

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,209 ✭✭✭mikeybhoy

Is it true its harder to get into DB if you have a D licence. I feel like ripping mine up and applying as a car licence holder if that's true.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,844 ✭✭✭rx8

Apparently lots of applicants are failing the driving assessment in the Nissan Leaf. Probably nerves getting the better of them.

I think that's it's a quicker initial training in the school if you have a D licence when applying. I'll try to find out.

We're in the middle of a pretty big recruitment campaign at the moment with notices on buses and billboards advertising vacancies for drivers and mechanics. Even the automated announcements on board the buses are alerting passengers to the fact that Dublin Bus are hiring. Is there any word on if there has been much interest in applications?

Hi how long does it take for the medical department in cie to get back to Dublin bus ? Sent in the paper work for my medication 3 weeks ago still no word passed everything form driving written assessments interviews and so on.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 Montys disco

How long does it take for cie medical department get back to Dublin Bus ? I had to send some stuff from my doctor for clarification. That was 2 weeks ago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,844 ✭✭✭rx8

There could be a delay as they have just relocated from Marlborough Street to the Vaults in Connolly Station. Hopefully not too long.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 Montys disco

Hi thanks got a email from them saying the same fingers crossed 🤞🏻

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 stevvieo

Applied again with the online application form, got an email the 16th of Feb saying "we received your application and will be in touch in due course". Still nothing so far, and they are closing applications on the 31st of March. Does it usually take this long for them to say yes or no? I made it to the interview last time and was turned down but that was nearly 2 years ago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,844 ✭✭✭rx8

I wouldn't pay any heed to the March 31st deadline. They're crying out for drivers, just like everyone else. They are not going to stop recruiting any time soon.

Yeah I've seen it extended a few times but a bus driver recently told me it could be stopping soon. Any advice for the interview? Most people just say "safety, safety, safety" and I learned the driver role but the competency based questions messed me up.

Is it still possible to get a job in Bus Eireann and after a period of time put in for a transfer to DB?

The reason I ask is I'm gonna apply for a job with DB soon and if I don't get it I might apply to Bus Eireann in either Cork, Galway or Limerick. I considered Broadstone but that seems to be mostly long distance runs which I don't like. I prefer the more local shorter distance stuff that DB do and BE do in Cork, Limerick and Galway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 stevvieo

Applied on the 16th of Feb with the online application, got an email for the online assessment the 16th of March to be completed on the 18th of March. Then a follow up email the next day to say I passed the assessment and that there is a delay for driving tests and interviews. Then the next day (20th of March) got another email to say my interview and driving test will be the 28th of March. Next day (29th) HR rang me and asked if I could go to the medical today (cancellation) the 30th. Doctor gave me a clean bill of health, said everything is 100%. Feels very fast now 😁

How long until you think they will ring references or get onto me? Might be after the weekend at this stage but they said they want to speed things up because my CPC case study is expired in July.

This thread has been a gem of knowledge and information, thank you to everyone who has added their input.

    Fingers crossed 🤞

You'll be called within 2 weeks, in the school in a month and depending on which depot you get you'll hand in your notice within 2 months 😂

    Thanks, sounds great 🤣🤣

Got the call today to start the 17th of April, happy days 😁 that was super quick

  • Registered Users Posts: 107 ✭✭Eurox6

Just wondering has anyone on here actually done the job ?

What is it like, is it a good job, is it easy do you think the pay is good ?

What is it like day to day ,

Do you get paid during training ,

  • Registered Users Posts: 107 ✭✭Eurox6

Just wondering what sort of job are you leaving to do bus driving ,I'm weighing up weather to give it a go or not

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 stevvieo

Car Detailing, been doing it over 20 years now and I think it's just time to hang up the overalls 😁 very eager to manoeuvre a bus around Dublin aswel as I drove everything else other than a bus

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 stevvieo

Anybody any advice on the depots? As far as I'm aware you don't get a choice for a depot and are given one based on where they need you. Is your address taken into account or will they literally throw you anywhere?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,209 ✭✭✭mikeybhoy

Best of luck. If you've driven trucks/other large vehicles the bus should be a piece of piss only thing you need to remember is the wheels are behind you so you put the front over the pavement and take that extra bit of space provided there's no pedestrians obviously. I'm sure you'll do well with DB.

  • Registered Users Posts: 107 ✭✭Eurox6

Just wondering at what stage of the application do they ring your references,

Just could be arkward with the current job if they give them a call before i look like getting the drivers job

When do you actually first get to drive a bus,

I guess the worry is you leave your current job then your pants at driving a bus & are left high and dry

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,844 ✭✭✭rx8

Phoning references is the last stage.

You will drive a bus on the first day... as I've mentioned before on this thread, the training is top class and normally done now with just 2 trainees per instructor. You will be perfectly fine driving a bus, you'll be mentored and supported all the way through. And yes, training is paid with a dinner voucher each day too.

Regarding which depot you are sent to, it depends on the requirements at the time. If you live in Bray, you won't want Harristown, but you can ask for your preferred one. They are all pretty much the same, a place to park your car and sometimes have your break in.

  • Registered Users Posts: 107 ✭✭Eurox6

Just wondering what is the average age of new bus drivers ? or is there all ages getting into it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,844 ✭✭✭rx8

All ages coming in at the moment.

One chap was interviewed recently was 64. He told the interviewer that he would be staying for 3 good years. I'll be seeing the guy who interviewed him tomorrow and I'll ask if he got the job. Probably did if I was to guess.
