Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That works out at about €50 million for 30 days. I do a post after the first draw of each month working out the approximate value of sales in the previous month. By taking the difference between the newest winning numbers. €50 million is very much in the ball park.

See post #8422 where I made the sales for December 2022 to be around €47 million. And as it was the end of the year, post #8423 sales of around €617 million for the year. The monthly sales and encashment figures are published in the annual reports. You can see the 2021 figures in the link below, page 22. 2022 figures will be out sometime around April or May.

The UK's National Savings & Investments Board are increasing the rate paid on their Premium Bonds to 3.15%, winning odds are 24,000:1 per £1 bond, minimum purchase is £25, max. is £50k. This follows the rate increasing from 2.20% to 3.00% on 1 January 2023. An investment of £50K could see an average return of around £1575.

Any chance that State Savings will get even close to 3%?

Has anyone ever gotten the error "sorry we were unable to process your payment" when trying to purchase Prize Bonds? I thought I might have been over my bank daily transfer limit so I tried reducing the value and still no luck.

  • Registered Users Posts: 734 ✭✭✭Sligo Quay

Good for you, that's a fantastic investment, highest I ever went was 100k with 4 batches 10k 20k 30k 40k, I cashed in the 40k batch in July 2022 bringing mine back down to 60k with 3 batches 10k 20k 30k, I might cash in the 10k batch this year and hold on to the 20k 30k batches.

Nothing for me this week, last win 2nd December 2022 €50.

I see ZH65696 won the 50k and it's not a Greek bond, it's Waterford, the Greek bonds are higher up in the 800000s

Nothing here again. I €50 euro win in 7 months. Not good.

    Nothing for me.

January count, the same 15 million bonds BCB to BCP in each of the four draws. Not counting a €500 and a €1,000 winners.

Friday 06. 104 prizes, highest BCF 11, lowest BCI 1.

    Friday 13. 84, BCI 9, BCC 2.

    Friday 20. 105, BCH & BCJ 11 each, BCG 1.

    Friday 27. 80, BCG 11, BCH & BCM 2 each.

    Highest overall BCF 33 (11,6,7,9). Lowest BCM 19 (6,3,8,2).

    60 million bonds won 373 prizes, average per million 6.217. x 52 x €50 = €16163.33. Divided by 62.5 to get what €100K would win in a year with the same luck = €258.61, nearest to 5 x €50.

Yes. It was my bank that caused the issue. I had to call them and they fixed it for one purchase, but then it happened again. So, I transferred cash into Revolut and that went through without any problems.

Invested in PBs years ago.Average win less than one per year. Some people are lucky. But it seems the newer the purchase the quicker you win.Personal purchasers have not a hope against club, corporate ,etc buyers

I'm considering moving 50k from PB to it.

2% on that is a lot more than I've ever gotten with PB .

I saw that previously but I opened an account with them last week and it was quick and straightforward.

I haven't lodged anything yet but it's either them or raisin I think I'll be going with .

I put about 1k into prize bonds about ten years ago and kinda forgot about them until I moved house recently and found my statement with my bond numbers. I've no idea if they've accumulated anything since. So I tried logging into my account with my regular email address but it's not recognising it. Any advice on what to do or should I just phonecall them directly during weekday hours?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 712 ✭✭✭POBox19

State Savings changed their system a few years ago and the old logon the check your bonds is closed. You now register with your PPS, or SSCN if you have one. A bit like opening a bank a/c and you should be able to upload your bond numbers when you're in and link your bank a/c for prizes to be paid. There is a facility on the site to check if you have any unclaimed prizes without having to register.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,386 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

    Nothing for me.

The number of €50 prizes in the February draws is 4,735 up from 4,712 in January. The newest bond to win on 06 January was BCQ 456969, newest 03 February BCX 947818. Sales of around €46.8 million.

Dublin got 2,005 prizes, the first time over 2,000. 1,996 of those were €50 prizes, 42.15% of the total.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 602 ✭✭✭transylman

Geniune question. Why keep your money in prize bonds long term given the awful rate of return?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,099 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

I'd imagine most don't keep it long term, it's a great place short term, no risk, easy access and a chance of a win every week.

You get nothing from the banks, but there is a chance of a tax free win with PBs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 691 ✭✭✭lordleitrim

Got two €50 wins in a row in January 6th and 13th. First time getting wins back to back.

Does anyone else get excited when they see the notification on their phone on Friday lunchtimes that they have a prize bond win? 🤑 For the few seconds it takes to log in after getting the alert, I always have this fantasy that it is the jackpot or even a €1000 win but alas its always the 50 euro....better than nothing I suppose!😊

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 641 ✭✭✭sportsfan90

It's been a while since I've cashed in any bonds. Has anyone here done so recently and how long did it take before the money is in your bank account?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,996 ✭✭✭bmc58

Do you get a cheque or do you just get some more prize bonds?Heard they don't pay out the €50 prize in cash anymore.

I cashed some in on state savings account online last Friday afternoon and the money was in my account this morning.

    How are people winning 100k

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,386 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

The IR£ Euro exchange rate never changes. The value of each IR£5 bond was rounded to €6.35. The ones issued in Euro are €6.25. Yours have a slightly better chance of winning because of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 691 ✭✭✭lordleitrim

I just do nothing and let it auto reinvest back into additional prize bonds.

Go to the Prize Bonds website for all the information. But if they were issued before you were born, is it your name on them?

  • Registered Users Posts: 832 ✭✭✭pbwinner

It's a long-dismissed myth that newer bonds are luckier than older bonds, each bond has an equal chance of winning. Except pre-euro bonds which would have a slightly better chance of winning because of rounding. So it also doesn't matter if you are a personal purchaser or part of a club.

Nothing for me. The two newest bonds to win were both in Co Down BCZ, almost certainly the same person getting a quick return on their purchase.

    5 prizes shown

Prize Value Winning Prize Bond Location

    €50.00 AZN339690 Down

    €50.00 BCZ836917 Down

    €50.00 BCZ839864 Down

    €50.00 JG675382 Down

    €50.00 SK734245 Down

Assuming the full BCZ series has been issued, that makes the number of bonds issued in Euros 1.341 billion, worth €8,381,250,000. They started with bond number DL000001. Before the Euro, 116 million bonds x €6.35 each were issued, worth €736,000,000. They started in 1957, so it was well over 40 years before the Euro. And well over half of all bonds have been issued since the start of the AAA series in mid 2015. By sheer numbers older bonds are going to get fewer prizes, not even taking into account how many of them have been cashed in.

I did in December, and got paid my first %2 anual interest this January (average of all uninvested cash held during the month). I moved 10k first, to see how it went. Pretty straightforward, and a great app to follow up everything. I don't use TradeRepublic for investing (got it elsewhere) but for cash that I don't want to invest, and is sitting in my low yielding Irish bank account, why not? It's actually held in a Citi account in Ireland, covered by the Deposit 100k blabla. Takes 1 business day to transfer, as it's a SEPA transfer back and forth. If you need them, 1 day to recover your funds. They only pay 2% for the first 50k of uninvested cash.

I started with bonds last year, because of the same reason: I had cash that I did not want to invest, just sitting in low yielding accounts. Therefore I moved it to bonds. Got one prize the second week (wow! Lucky) and nothing else. So now that there's an option, I am moving away from bonds. It's a pity because I like them, but 0.35% it's just ridiculous. So every month I move more and more from bonds to Trade Republic.

I got a referral code, if you are interested DM me, I think they're giving a bonus of a share/fraction of €50 for registering through a referral.

Hadn't realised that cashing-in facility was now online - have just cashed in a load too - so much easier than doing all the paperwork.
