Thank you for sharing graememk, that is exactly what I wanted. Much appreciated.

Few questions if you don't mind.

What is the capacity of your solar array? What direction is it oriented? What is the slope?

8.6 kwp, 4.3 NE, 4.3 SW about 12 degrees slope (walkable)

I dont have a full year of this data, but nearly. But what each string is outputting.

This is DC power so before inverter losses, taken at 10s intervals,

326 kWh for Dec 22, up over 110kwh on Dec 21, all on 7.8kwh system in south Louth. Consumption also down 125kwh on last Dec.

But inverter would still need to use the grid to force-charge the battery once it hits your foc?

    4.55 kWp, azimuth 136°, slope 24°, Roscommon

83.9 kWh is much better than last years 61.3 -- a good month

I've noticed that I have winter shading when the sun is below ~14°, first lower string, then the top -- from 11:00 to 13:00.

I've added a 2nd battery (10.9 kWh now :-)), and started to shift water heating to the immersion @8.42¢ (until kero reduces in price). My hourly buy/sell looks like this for Dec:

The load shifting is working quite well. I did export/sell a little (1.14 kWh) as I was mucking about with the inverter settings. Be fun to see how that appears on my bill.

I also see that the figures don't add up.

How does one isolate the PV generation figure from the 472Kwh below.

    I know it's a lot more than 472 - 441, but it's deffo not the 472 figure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,233 ✭✭✭irishchris

Great December this year for production particularly the start of the ninth.

354kwh generated, even 30 euro in fit which for December is crazy

    7kwp S facing W Dublin

Pretty poor PV due to 4kwp shaded until Feb 😭 but still 18kwh more than last year, batteries to the rescue.

My Solis hybrid inverter is also charging from the grid without me having set it up. Have had a quick look for the settings controlling it but didn't find them yet. Must delve deeper into it soon, I don't have a night rate so no point adding charging/ discharge cycles to the battery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,988 ✭✭✭paulbok

That 472 figure is your PV total, that graph only deals with where the pv power went, 93% to the battery and 7% exported. Oddly none consumed?

The same graph matches up with PV production on my app, the 205kWh matches up with the previous pic I just posted, 115 consumed directly, 84 to battery and 6 exported. Edit: reported grid import matches my meter, the only way my figures add up is to include the 41kWh difference in battery charging/ discharging as coming from the grid.

I have 41kWh of grid charging to my battery as part of my grid imports.

4.46kWp (lets call it 4.5 😂) SW system on a 41 degree tilt

    130.5kWh generation for December 2022

    Best - 9.8kWh on Dec 8th

    Worst - 0.3kWh on Dec 18th

There are several days above 7kWh but then also the same for days at or below 1kWh. In comparison to November I'm seeing more of a swing between high and low days.

Happy New Year fellow Solar folk.

Figures for the month of December with a 4Kw system on an even East : West split based in South Dublin. No battery.

    • Total generated: 57.64 kWh
    • Highest day:  16th 3.0 kWh
    • Lowest day: 4th 0.78 kWh

Slim pickings again but I detect the first “benefit” insofar as my monthly (I pay an even amount each month) electricity bill has been dropped by €30 😀

Been awhile since i did one of these. Dublin 16 (5.3Kwp split exactly E/W 1.5Kwp and 3.8Kwp)

Most of the savings (73%) coming from the battery in December. Output from the panels is as follows.

You can clearly see the snow on the panels from the 9th -> 13th. Last year was 58.5kwhr so it would have been a decent month barring the snow. So the overall efficiency per 1kwp for the month was 10.89Kwhr/1Kwp

Interestingly the shed installation I have (2.3kwp facing due south) did 31.25Kwhr for the month giving an production of 13.58Kwhr/1kwp. The shed gets a bit shaded with houses in the winter with the low sun angles. In nov the shed nearly matched the main instllation on the house even though it has only 50% of the panels.

Overall "savings" calculated at about €1350 since install in Oct'21. On track for about a 8 year payback. Course the term "savings" is a loose term and dependent on a lot of factors such as how you use electricity. Also, I don't include "FIT" in my calcs....nor the few crypto sheckles I get when generating heat in the mining rigs.

Home Assistant nothing fancy, Solis app is useless at separating battery charge/discharge from PV generation/consumption.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,988 ✭✭✭paulbok

The Solis cloud app does separate data better than the Solis Home app

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,393 ✭✭✭SD_DRACULA

Nah not for the generation value, it just overwrites the PV generation with the battery charge and the discharge on top of the consumption (I wish I had 367kwh PV in December lol)

    Fantasy:

    Cold truth:

Solis is only accurate if not charging the batteries from the grid (in the main UI - the reports are fine)

You can get the correct gen from a report on solis cloud app. I agree though it's annoying they don't report it on the main graph without battery... I'd like both!

I wonder could we open a ticket... They must know this already

Exactly, the correct data is there in the DB but for some strange reason the UI is not adding it correctly.

Funny enough when you look at the same on the UI for yearly view all the number values are in fact correct (but the bar charts aren't) 🤷‍♂️

268 kWh for Dec 22 on my 6.1 kWp system here in Cork

The fist half of the month was quite good and had a 4 days over 20 kWh..clear skies all day could not get better.

    Used 61% as well.

4.83kWp south facing, Dublin Fingal, 10kWh battery

    145kWh generated

    3kWh exported (97% solar self-consumption)

    663kWh imported (4kWh day, 659kWh night)

    10.8kWh generated best day(s) (15th Dec + 16th Dec)

0.4kWh generated worst day (18th Dec)

    738kWh natural gas heating

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,500 ✭✭✭ECO_Mental

Gotta love 0.6% usage on day rate 😁 that's mightily impressive and all with a 10 kWh battery.... Cant remember to do have an EV as well? just comparing your total monthly kWh (gas and elec) to mine. I did about 1500 kWh as well in Dec if you exclude the EV.

Yeah, included in those figures is 194kWh Zappi usage.

🙈 Jeeze!!! I put 712 kWh into my Zappi on top of the 1500 kWh in general house usage....you must be only tipping around in your EV

In total I consumed 2,258kWh electricity in my gaff for December (but I'm all electric don't even have a stove or fire place)

Car was laid up more than usual this month due to the icy weather and then a quiet Christmas (COVID in the house).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,242 ✭✭✭Galego

Where in the app does solis separate this data?

    I cant find it myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,242 ✭✭✭Galego

It is accruate in the main Overview screen if you dont have any battery. If you have one and even if you dont have charge/discharge at night it wont be accruate for generation because for sure the battery will need the grid at some point this time of the year......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,242 ✭✭✭Galego

    November stats for me.

    4wkp SSE in West Meath.

    Total generation: 105wkh

I exported a bit due to not having battery till middle of this month. Pretty happy with the self consumption %.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,988 ✭✭✭paulbok

Click on a specific day/month on the vertical bar charts and it brings up the breakdown.

Annoyingly, it doesn't give an hourly bar graph view over a day, would be really handy to break down usages into hourly slots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,242 ✭✭✭Galego

    What am I doing wrong?

It still shows me the battery charging as generation.

    Solar generated 2kwh today.

Where are you seeing the generation as 2kWh?

    Off the inverter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,242 ✭✭✭Galego

Yes off the inverter and in the 4 circles under Today Yield.

I fully charged the battery at 4.00 in the morning till 8.00 so would have been full and discharging during the day.

42kWh export despite a 5kWh battery and eddi... I see others with just a few kWh exported this month. Ticket with solis open 2 months now and it isn't even the first one. There's probably roughly the same or slightly more unnecessary import also. 😞

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,242 ✭✭✭Galego

Some of that export is possibly down to the battery/inverter response times.

Have you checked the battery and inverter firmware versions?

Wishing you all health and happiness for 2023.

2nd December over and a jump of over 50% production compared to the same month last year. Numerous days in double digits in comparison to last Dec.

    South Roscommon, 8.16Kwp, facing 210° at 35°, 9.6kWh battery

Total generation 261.6kWh (prediction at 202kWh)

    Consumed 647.8kWh

    Energy from Grid 388kWh

    Energy to Grid 31kWh

    To the Eddi 32.9kWh

To the Zappi 233.9kWh (doubling up on last month with more charging)

    To the Battery 263kWh

    From the Battery 236.3kWh

    Best day 14th with 18.25kWh

    Worst day 24th with 0.9kWh

    Running about 89% self use

Energy exported would have generated €5.58 at Energia FIT rate if on a smart meter, we are D/N.

Try and pull the date from the various online monitors as they all seem to vary slightly in one figure or another.

A small amount would be yes but not to this level. I don't want to diverge from the monthly performance topic but for example looking at 31st Dec I had 0.5kWh gen and 0.6kWh export.... on 1st Jan it was 1.9 gen and 1.3 export.

I've tickets with both PureDrive and Solis open.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,508 ✭✭✭Manion

Total field for December was 61 kWh (Model predicted 75 kWh)

8.2 kWp North facing with a 10 kW battery.

Exported 3.7 kWh for a 96% self consumption.

Solis is weird in that it shows Energy from battery as including Solar Yield but that seems to work for Home assistant which assumes all power from solar goes into the battery. Taken at face value I'm seeing approximately a 12% system loss not including what's exported to the grid.

Wow, that’s not bad on North. And I’m keen to see your stats in general. I got 88kWh on my 4.9kWp – it’s a mix of SE (which did the bulk of the work). Tiny SW (and suffers from low string voltage so doesn't do much this time of year), and a largely ‘hibernating’ NW

Dec was by far my lowest of the last 4 months since it’s live.

4.65 SE and SW (SW low angle and shading) North Dublin

    Total Generated: 74.9kWh

Export: 3.65 kWh (probably due to me filling my battery to 100% at start of month have since dropped back to 95%)

Good month, got 111.5 kwh from a 2.5kwp system facing south in Galway.

    December 21 was 67kwh.
