You're going to be running that PSU at its redline, 6900 XT is a 300-360W GPU that can spike to 600W & 5800X3D can use 165-200W (system -GPU).

If you mean the PSU in the second set of images. That's running a 3770k and a Vega 56. It's an old enough 520 watt PSU alright but it should be fine for the gaming he does.

My own PC in the top images has a 750W Evga PSU in it. I think I should maybe upgrade that, but I'll wait and see how things go for a while first.

Finished this generation's new build:

7950x/4090/64Gb DDR5@6000

My main aim was to keep all major heat generators exhausting directly out, esp the GPU. The result is a bit of gangly piping but very heat efficient.
It's also a lot quieter than it probably looks. The front 2x200mm and 1x120 on the back are part of the case and I don't have them hooked into any controls, they're naturally almost silent. The bottom 3xBeQuiet high speeds, CPU and GPU AIOs are all controlled by Fan-Control mixes with quiet profiles under normal use but can ramp to howling storm level if needed (esp the BeQuiets but they also push some serious air at max).By then I'll be well into a gaming session with a headset on so it doesn't really bother me :).

I finally built my 7950x build and I downsized one of my 5950x builds out of the large little devil build into my now spare Phantex evolv x case as my son wants the ld case.

I will use my spare 5950x, x570 aorus xtreme and a spare rtx 2080 for a basement vr rig.

My camera skills don't do it justice, it looks much better in real.

~~Just noticed it but FYI, switching the AIO to top mount (exhausting up) and having both fans intake would be beneficial to temps & AIO pump life.~~

Disregard, forgot the 500DX can only support 240mm AIO in the roof.

v1 of my NCase M1 build.

Overall... not fully happy with it.

Compared to the NR200P, it's much harder to build in, and the panels don't fit as well (though that could be from cables pushing them out).

I've a Nvidia 12-pin cable on the way that should cut down on the amount of cables a bit, and I'm considering a Thermalright Silver Soul 135 tower (maybe Noctua NH-U9S) so that the CPU airflow is better.

I replaced the stock RGB fans for the GPU rad for a pair of Noctua NF-A12x25s. Much quieter and cooler now. One thing that really annoys me though is the rad placement. I really want it up the top exhausting the hot air. But, there's a clearance issue with my CPU cooler, and while I still have the stock Intel one, I'm not putting that one back on. Way too loud.

Bit of a sidenote but I'd recommend getting some wedges for the Presonus monitors, something like https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09H8N3L9W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . Nearfields like that are pretty sensitive to directionality, vertical included, gave mine a nice quality bump :)

Only went with the 7600x as I will upgrade it to a 8800x3d next year, Nearly bought a 7900xt but I will wait until I see what the 7800xt does first, nvidia are not getting a look at really due to their useless value this generation.

Finally got the NCase M1 build I've dreamed of.

I bought Thermalright SI-100 which was much easier to install than the Noctua coolers I'd tried previously, and costs less than the NF-A12x25 fan I put on it!

Will have the following SFF components for sale when I'm back from holidays:

Finally said goodbye to the 8600K/1080TI rig still not a bother on it, might hold onto it or sell it on if its worth anything.

This thing is crushing everything i throw at it @ 1440P , i was a bit worried about only 12GB on the GPU but if need be down the road i can upgrade.

Ive no real interest in ray tracing but DLSS is pretty impressive, havent tried frame generation yet but i will do for some single player gaming.

I really cant get over how small the 4070 is.

Bf 2042 is probably the most intensive multiplayer game atm so i tried that first on 128 player conquest and didnt drop below 144 fps which i locked @ 1440P ultra everything.

I normally run MP games with some of the post processing off just for clarity but for testing purposes everything maxed out and it was just stunning and never dropped below 144fps literally.

Its hard to pinpoint exactly how much better the 4070 is over the 1080ti especially with the 7800x3d compared to the 8600k i had with the 1080ti.

I went with nvidia for DLSS and efficiency more than anything else.

Apart from a huge performance boost its rarely gone over 50c where the 1080ti would regularly hit 75c+ but here again the better case might be a factor.

Ive seen some benchmarks state the 4070 is 100% faster others 50% and others 75% so take your pick but it is a big upgrade in many ways.

I'm stuck in limbo right now tbh, I have a whole new system built, am5, 7600x, 64gigs ram but still have the 1080ti. And I don't know whether to go 4070ti/7800xt level or balls to the wall 7900xtx/4090, I bought the 1080ti at the time because I wanted top performance but these new top cards are absurdly priced imo. Geforce now 4080 tier isn't making it any easier either.

I decided i wasnt going to build myself this time, ive had mostly successful self builds but one in particular stressed me waaaay too much and cost a small fortune at the time so i said never again 😫

I had a config saved on PC specialist and i was holding off and holding off until i spotted in their ready to ship section almost identical spec but with a better M.2 and case and was coming in at €260 less so i jumped on it.

I too was considering all cards you mentioned but came to the conclusion the 4080 and 4090 cost just dont feel right especially as im sticking with 1440P.

The 7900XT and XTX too were tempting but had more or less had settled on the 7800XT or RTX 4070 anyways unless the 7900XT was to be had at a decent price but i sort of wanted nvidia for its features.

My only concern with The 4070 was 12GB VRAM but now i have one it seems ideal for my needs, DLSS is actually really impressive, the card itself is very efficient and super quiet so no i dont regret opting for the 4070.

The rig as a whole has tripled or more my frames with the same settings [even more if i enable DLSS] in various games.

Obviously i run them at max settings now but initially for testing purposes i had to compare apples to apples :)

Its a tough decision but as i say my decision was more or less made for me when i spotted the build.

Either way you will get top performance compared to the 1080ti, good luck in your decision making
