I have an NCase M1 and couldn't imagine going much smaller than that, but I really like the Dans. Genuinely tiny!

Let me know if you're ever thinking about selling it - I'm so mad I missed out on them!

Feck it, went ahead & bought a Noctua NH-C14S & Cooler Master NR200P.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,731 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

Transplanted my build into a Cooler Master NR200P.

Might be the greatest case I've worked in so far.

7950x, 64Gb DDR5 6000 ram, X670E Crosshair Extreme and cpu waterblock. Unfortunately with just having bought a new house I'm having a hard time finding time to fit it into my rig.

    got cheap 5800X3D

Finally got around to installing my 5800x3D and 6900xt.

Replaced the 1600 and Vega 56 that have served me very, very well over the past few years.

    Some Bench Marks:

    Superposition, 1440p High

    5800x3D, Vega 56: 5525

    5800x3D, 6900xt 17348

The Vega will now continue to serve my house mate along side his 3770k. Should give him another few years of service and is a nice upgrade on his GTX 970.

    Benchmarks:

    Heaven, 1080p High

    3770k, GTX970: 2884

    3770k, Vega 56: 4156

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,731 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

You're going to be running that PSU at its redline, 6900 XT is a 300-360W GPU that can spike to 600W & 5800X3D can use 165-200W (system -GPU).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭jebidiah

If you mean the PSU in the second set of images. That's running a 3770k and a Vega 56. It's an old enough 520 watt PSU alright but it should be fine for the gaming he does.

My own PC in the top images has a 750W Evga PSU in it. I think I should maybe upgrade that, but I'll wait and see how things go for a while first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,731 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

Ah yeah, thought you were using the HX520 for the new parts.

    750W should be alright.

    Finished this generation's new build:

    7950x/4090/64Gb DDR5@6000

    • My main aim was to keep all major heat generators exhausting directly out, esp the GPU. The result is a bit of gangly piping but very heat efficient.
    • It's also a lot quieter than it probably looks. The front 2x200mm and 1x120 on the back are part of the case and I don't have them hooked into any controls, they're naturally almost silent. The bottom 3xBeQuiet high speeds, CPU and GPU AIOs are all controlled by Fan-Control mixes with quiet profiles under normal use but can ramp to howling storm level if needed (esp the BeQuiets but they also push some serious air at max).By then I'll be well into a gaming session with a headset on so it doesn't really bother me :).

I finally built my 7950x build and I downsized one of my 5950x builds out of the large little devil build into my now spare Phantex evolv x case as my son wants the ld case.

I will use my spare 5950x, x570 aorus xtreme and a spare rtx 2080 for a basement vr rig.

My camera skills don't do it justice, it looks much better in real.

    7950x build:

Just noticed it but FYI, switching the AIO to top mount (exhausting up) and having both fans intake would be beneficial to temps & AIO pump life.

Disregard, forgot the 500DX can only support 240mm AIO in the roof.

v1 of my NCase M1 build.

Overall... not fully happy with it.

Compared to the NR200P, it's much harder to build in, and the panels don't fit as well (though that could be from cables pushing them out).

I've a Nvidia 12-pin cable on the way that should cut down on the amount of cables a bit, and I'm considering a Thermalright Silver Soul 135 tower (maybe Noctua NH-U9S) so that the CPU airflow is better.

    PCPartPicker Part List: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/DdC9k9

Ryzen 5 5600X under Noctua NH-L12 (fan replaced with NF-A12x25).

    ASUS B550-I STRIX mobo

2x A12x25 blowing air into Nvidia RTX 3080 FE

1x A12x25 exhausting air out the side; 1x B9 exhausting air out the rear.

Not the greatest looking system, but for the most part I'm happy with it.

    CPU: i5 12400

    RAM: 32GB G.Skill Aegis 3200 C16

    Mobo: MSI H610M-G

Storage: Kingston 1TB NVMe (boot and games) 2TB Seagate Barracuda for game backups, Skyrim modlists etc

GPU: STRIX 6900 XT OC LC Gaming Top (XTXH chip)

    PSU: Silverstone DA850-G

    Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow

I replaced the stock RGB fans for the GPU rad for a pair of Noctua NF-A12x25s. Much quieter and cooler now. One thing that really annoys me though is the rad placement. I really want it up the top exhausting the hot air. But, there's a clearance issue with my CPU cooler, and while I still have the stock Intel one, I'm not putting that one back on. Way too loud.

Bit of a sidenote but I'd recommend getting some wedges for the Presonus monitors, something like https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09H8N3L9W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . Nearfields like that are pretty sensitive to directionality, vertical included, gave mine a nice quality bump :)

    NR200P with Noctua NH-U12A (rear intake) and 4x A12x25.

RTX 12-pin to 2x8-PCIe cable from modDIY.

Sadly have to use the mesh side panel.

new build to replace my aging 6700k desktop, reused my 1080ti and an old hdd. Only went with the 7600x as I will upgrade it to a 8800x3d next year, Nearly bought a 7900xt but I will wait until I see what the 7800xt does first, nvidia are not getting a look at really due to their useless value this generation.

Finally got the NCase M1 build I've dreamed of.

I bought Thermalright SI-100 which was much easier to install than the Noctua coolers I'd tried previously, and costs less than the NF-A12x25 fan I put on it!

Will have the following SFF components for sale when I'm back from holidays:

    • Cooler Master NR200P
    • Noctua NH-U12A
    • Noctua NH-U9S
    • Scythe Mugen 5

    PM me for details.

Finally said goodbye to the 8600K/1080TI rig still not a bother on it, might hold onto it or sell it on if its worth anything.

This thing is crushing everything i throw at it @ 1440P , i was a bit worried about only 12GB on the GPU but if need be down the road i can upgrade.

Ive no real interest in ray tracing but DLSS is pretty impressive, havent tried frame generation yet but i will do for some single player gaming.

I really cant get over how small the 4070 is.

    AMD Ryzen7 7800X3D

    ASUS® PRIME X670-P

    32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 5600MHz

    Palit RTX 4070

    2TB SAMSUNG 980 PRO M.2

    2TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2

CORSAIR 750W RMe SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET

PCS FrostFlow 240 Series RGB High Performance Liquid Cooler (AMD)

HYTE Y40 WHITE MID-TOWER CASE [love this case]

How are you finding the 4070 coming from a 1080ti?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,715 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Bf 2042 is probably the most intensive multiplayer game atm so i tried that first on 128 player conquest and didnt drop below 144 fps which i locked @ 1440P ultra everything.

I normally run MP games with some of the post processing off just for clarity but for testing purposes everything maxed out and it was just stunning and never dropped below 144fps literally.

Its hard to pinpoint exactly how much better the 4070 is over the 1080ti especially with the 7800x3d compared to the 8600k i had with the 1080ti.

I went with nvidia for DLSS and efficiency more than anything else.

Apart from a huge performance boost its rarely gone over 50c where the 1080ti would regularly hit 75c+ but here again the better case might be a factor.

Ive seen some benchmarks state the 4070 is 100% faster others 50% and others 75% so take your pick but it is a big upgrade in many ways.

OK i dont normally dig RGB but that is easily one of the most pleasing on the eye ive ever seen.

Lovely looking setup. With the rad in the bottom, what are your temps like and are you OC'ing?

Another lovely looking setup. With that many fans, what are noise levels like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,147 ✭✭✭ironictoaster

It’s pretty decent to be honest. I used Fan control to create the fan curves. https://github.com/Rem0o/FanControl.Releases/releases

Im actually in the process of selling this case and fans. It’s nice but too big for my desk. Going back to smaller case.

I'm stuck in limbo right now tbh, I have a whole new system built, am5, 7600x, 64gigs ram but still have the 1080ti. And I don't know whether to go 4070ti/7800xt level or balls to the wall 7900xtx/4090, I bought the 1080ti at the time because I wanted top performance but these new top cards are absurdly priced imo. Geforce now 4080 tier isn't making it any easier either.

I decided i wasnt going to build myself this time, ive had mostly successful self builds but one in particular stressed me waaaay too much and cost a small fortune at the time so i said never again 😫

I had a config saved on PC specialist and i was holding off and holding off until i spotted in their ready to ship section almost identical spec but with a better M.2 and case and was coming in at €260 less so i jumped on it.

I too was considering all cards you mentioned but came to the conclusion the 4080 and 4090 cost just dont feel right especially as im sticking with 1440P.

The 7900XT and XTX too were tempting but had more or less had settled on the 7800XT or RTX 4070 anyways unless the 7900XT was to be had at a decent price but i sort of wanted nvidia for its features.

My only concern with The 4070 was 12GB VRAM but now i have one it seems ideal for my needs, DLSS is actually really impressive, the card itself is very efficient and super quiet so no i dont regret opting for the 4070.

The rig as a whole has tripled or more my frames with the same settings [even more if i enable DLSS] in various games.

Obviously i run them at max settings now but initially for testing purposes i had to compare apples to apples :)

Its a tough decision but as i say my decision was more or less made for me when i spotted the build.

Either way you will get top performance compared to the 1080ti, good luck in your decision making

    CPU: AMD 5950X

GPU: ROG STRIX 6900XT with AIO

    Case: Lian Li O11 XL

    RAM: 64GB (32*2) Corsair Vengence

    Motherboard: x570e

    PSU: 1000W

    Fans: Lian Li... loads.

    Monitor: AOC 144hz widescreen yoke

Future: Would consider and upgrade to 7900 XTX if I could find one with a built in AIO. Possibly full water cooling set up

Fixed up my NCase M1's internal wiring a bit.

Pro-tip: run 8-pin CPU cable and any bottom case fans behind the motherboard.

  • Registered Users Posts: 158 ✭✭warrior00

Why do you always go SFF? You do know you get better performance and cooling capabilities with a large case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,731 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

    1. I've lived in 3 addresses in 5 years - much rather have a tiny system for the inevitable move.
    2. The NCase M1 has great thermals even compared to large towers. GPU gets cool air directly from the bottom & if I wanted more CPU cooling, I could fit a 240mm AIO.
    3. I adore compact designs.
    4. This fits more easily on a desk.

Decided to get out of the rat race and settle on a Mini PC. Couldn't be happier. Runs the games I play, like Enlisted and Overwatch 2, at ultra 1440p effortlessly. Whisper quiet, takes up no space.

    Model is HX99G for anyone interested. Specs are 6900HX, 16GB 5600Mhz, 2tb SSD, RX6650M.

I built a tolerable computer with Apple branding

For fun. Got the original Macintosh Plus off a friend a few months ago, built a practical modern PC inside.

    Parts list:

Gigabyte X570 I AORUS PRO WIFI Motherboard.

AMD Ryzen 5 5600G Stock Cooler.

    16GB G.Skill DDR4 3600MHz Ripjaws V RAM.

    Fikwot FN960 512GB M.2 PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe SSD.

    XPROTO-Mini case w/ 600W SFF PSU.

Eyoyo 8" Mini Monitor 1024x768 IPS HDMI.

Various panel mounts and 90 degree HDMI/USB/Ethernet adaptors.

    6mm thick black foam.

    2mm thick clear acrylic.

    Extra long T15 screws.

    Super glue.

    Zip ties.

    Patience.

I tried to keep as much of the original appearance as possible, so all the original ports are intact and I just added HDMI and Ethernet to the back panel in place of the battery slot, and two USB ports in the floppy drive. The 5600G will let me play low demand games locally and also stream Steam from my main machine to a TV.

The XPROTO case is almost perfectly designed to fit inside and offers unlimited upgrade capacity in the ITX form factor; I could even put in a discrete GPU if I wanted to (though the 8700G would probably be a better choice from a thermals perspective).

My favourite part is the ability to use the original power switch rocker as a momentary switch to boot the motherboard. My least favourite part was accidentally cracking the acrylic after assembly and having to tear it down again to replace.

In terms of tools required, obviously a T15 long screw driver, safe means of removing the original analogue board and CRT. From there, a hack saw, jigsaw, power drill, soldering iron.

These mini PC`s are getting better and better it seems.

Looking at benchmarks its a very solid 1080P setup for the majority of games, even cyberpunk performs well @1080P and demanding games and as you say 1440P on less demanding games.

My brother enjoys the odd bit of gaming [not as often as myself :P] but refuses to play console with controller as he mostly plays fps games but this would suit him perfectly.

Tempted myself but i kinda like the rat race :P
