EI confirms BHD-LHR ceases end of Mar 23 (currently being operated by BA), as the airline has been unable to find a resolution to Brexit related issues.

Shame to see the rugby livery go but nice to know repaints have started after a two year break. The fleet could do with some consistency again.

Oh god "Doubled Increase" what the hell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,510 ✭✭✭Jack1985

It should be pointed out the increases at Cork are flat; AMS is reduced in Summer peak to facilitate increases to AGP/FAO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 411 ✭✭Shamrockj

Malaga is a Dublin based aircraft so doesn’t affect the AMS. On a Wednesday Faro is operated by a Dublin based aircraft so doesn’t affect AMS on Wednesday. But the other days yes so not completely flat. Also LHR is planned to move to A320NEO so net increase of 7% available seats. Not a major increase sadly but still in the right direction.

Great for ORK to see a NEO. When is that planned for? Not updated on the EI site

Reid Moody pointed out ORK increases was flat aswell on Wednesday

When was the last repaint? Not counting new or secondhand planes joining the fleet. Must be nearly 3 years ago.

Aer Lingus really don't care about Cork or Shannon thesedays - they seem to have given up and are just letting Ryanair run the show down here.

No commercial airline cares about any airport

They’re all just in it for profit (as they have to be)

BHD LHR is off sale now on the Aer Lingus website. They are only showing the BA flights

Could there have been any scope for the UK branch of Emerald to take over the route like with the Aer Lingus regional flights out of Belfast?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,944 ✭✭✭lisasimpson

I hear you. Its frustrsting . Also would love to what the story is with Emerald taking over the regional flights in cork and shannon. Would think a few European hubs or capitals could be profitable from either airport. Like Madrid or Lisbon from either given the growth in population of people from south america here. Think both esp Shannon need to have better public transport in place too coz unless you drive its a pain to get to for certain flight times.

Anyways those airport have their own threads for such discussions

They don't, but it really seemed that post-Covid they didn't bother with Cork anyway. Ryanair relaunched their entire pre-Covid route network but Aer Lingus didn't bother, and they basically haven't lifted a single finger since.

Ryanair are filling planes out of Cork so theres got to be some profit had by AL on some routes.

Because Ryanair has 100’s of aircraft on order and has to send them somewhere.. Aer Lingus short haul fleet is way down compared to 2019… the 3 A321’s left the fleet along with 3 A320’s down almost a 5th. They simply don’t currently have enough aircraft to return all the lost capacity out of Cork and Shannon..

Aer Lingus is very largely a Dublin-focused airline and, unless there is more money to be made somewhere else, Dublin is going to be its priority. Ryanair has a completely different model of operation, with a complex and diverse web of routes all over Europe, served from multiple bases. I would suggest that Cork is just another small/medium-sized city that it serves, rather than somewhere that Ryanair is particularly devoted to.

Looking at flightradar and most of the EI transatlantic are very late today. Any idea what happened?

I have checked it irregularly over the past few weeks and delays seem to be more common than not. What is happening that this is the case? Is it the same for other airlines.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,863 ✭✭✭p_haugh

Suprised Ryanair are still commercially running the kerry-dublin route, surely they aren't making any money from it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,409 ✭✭✭kevinandrew

A quick look at yesterdays departure board shows almost every single flight from Dublin, from all airlines, was running late. The North American carriers are no strangers to delays in recent days either; Delta experienced some 2 hour delays, and Air Canada had a whopping 5.5 hour delay to Toronto.

Not sure of the exact cause but would hazard a guess that the recent pressures from weather and ongoing staff shortages continue to impact schedules.

It seems the entire reason for the cold spell we have experienced was due to the pattern of the jet streams in the upper atmosphere.

Usually they are blowing eastwards from US to here, over the last few weeks they have been much further south and therefore of no benefit to planes heading eastwards and especially to make up time.

They are back on their usual trajectory now so it will be interesting to see will their timing improve.

    From the Indo article:

“Staff were told that Aer Lingus is likely to cease operating the route, which it has served for 15 years, by March 26. The issue does not impact Aer Lingus regional flights, operated by Emerald Airlines, which has an extensive network out of Belfast.”

Any chance that emerald could lease a couple of Embraers much like what Stobart did when they operated for BACF?

If 2 weekly services are something to celebrate we really are at the bottom of the barrel. EI's schedule is something to be ignored in comparison to FR's expansion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,409 ✭✭✭kevinandrew

Anyone know why EI-EDS is missing a wingtip fence? Unusual to see an A320 back in service without one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,675 ✭✭✭✭cson

My J seat from IAD yesterday was missing a shoulder strap (not sure how it got to DC without it), but basically until engineering came and installed a new one I'd have had to get off (full flight), any idea why that's a hard rule for J seats when otherwise it's the same as a Y seat with the lap belt (that worked)? Captain seemed like a reasonable guy but obviously he has to follow policy (my Plan B was to ask for the jump seat! 😁)

FA said its going back to a 330 from May too, interested to see if they keep the double daily. The FAs really really hate the 321LR.

Doesn’t the strap contain the airbag to protect you from the consoles in case of an overrun etc?
