That's very interesting. I find the same with my south facing panels. On great days it's great, but on less than mediocre days it seems to produce less than E/W. I've a plan for 4kWp west facing.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,192 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

E/W is 80% of S but if better sunlight gain in the mornings and evenings then E/W trumps.

Always said if I was out the country I'd have two arrays, one S and the other E/W (and tilting)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,213 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

I'm out the country and my plan is for all 3. 8kWp currently south, then next is a 4kWp west and 4kWp northeast (don't have an east facing roof)

Im looking at this months report. It says ive generated 57kwh so far in november. If I look at yield on the inverter page though the yield for the month is 31kwh. The monthly report is wrong. Either way its a bug in the software and solis should address this. If that happened in my company it would be a priority to correct the buggy software and it would be done in a day or two at most.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,743 ✭✭✭yankinlk

I agree... all im saying is... you wait untill next month and it will be resolved. My monthly data is wrong for Nov... but its correct for previous months (like October). They do resolve the calculation later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,452 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

    My figures still don't match.

Solis Home says 254 for October, Solis Cloud says 387.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,743 ✭✭✭yankinlk

Shrugs. I dunno. Any chance something is different in your home app? Mine looks like this... for comparison.

Not defending it, the cloud app looks a mess when winter arrives amd night changing takes over.

I got 138kWh on a 4.9kWp in Dublin. Which is a fair bit higher than you on same size nearly. Mine is 2.7kWp on E which gives me decent output. Half have optimisers for shade which helps. My panels are supposed to be decent in lower light but that could be marketing speel.

Have a tiny South too, 1kWp. And 1.2 kWp NW that does verily little at this time of year.

I am strictly E/W (well 100 and 280 really) and 22 degree slope which means poorer output in winter. Also I get shading on the eastern half every morning from Nov to Feb. Decided optimisers weren't worth it because output in those 3-4 months is so low anyway.

4.46kWp SW facing system in North Co Dublin. 41 degree roof. Solis 6kW Hybrid inverter, 5kWh battery, Eddi, and Zappi car charger

November 2022 generation 176.1kWh with 69% self-consumption. This is almost 100kWh less generation than October.

    Worst day 26th Nov - 0.4kWh

    Best day 16th Nov - 12.3kWh

Note on my self-consumption. This should be higher; however, once generation stops for the day my inverter bounces between import and export. This means at least 1kWh export even without generation that day and also import even if I have enough in the battery. Ticket open with Solis but they're slower than molasses.

    Roscommon, 4550Wp, Azimuth: 136° (SE), Slope: 24°

Better Nov for me than last year. Exporting a lot more as I have learned to load shift to take advantage of lower night rates.

I finally got round to installing home assistant. Thanks to the great work over at https://github.com/CharlesGillanders/homeassistant-alphaESS, I can see that the lower of my two strings suffers from shading (you cannot actually see a shadow on the panels at this time, too diffuse)

First full month with the system fully working. 144kwh produced.

4kwp panels South facing in South Meath. Solis 5kW Hybrid inverter, Eddi, no battery (yet).

Trying to figure out the slope of my roof. Any tips to do it easy and quick (and minimun tools required)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 240 ✭✭curioustony

@Galego I used a flat board and an angle meter app on my phone. The roof is quite accessible as the house is a bungalow.

I'm sure there are smarter ways!!

Fair point on the optimisers - not worth it just for winter as you say. I've them as the flat roof loses the sun earlier than the main roof every day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,482 ✭✭✭DC999

@hla + @Galego, welcome to the 1st full month of solar. I'm only a few months ahead of ye.

Output sucks at this time of year I'm learning. But I was lucky enough to see it in Aug (rocking), Sept (decent but dropped from Aug) and nose dived since. But come Feb it will start to lift again.

8.2kWp SSE facing in wexford. Minimal shading but with the low sun, the tops of the trees in the field across the road are having a small impact.

Total generation 115kWh for the month. 3 days with scheduled power outages, so worst day was 0.1kWh with the panels not generating between 9.00-17.30. Best day 12kWh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,242 ✭✭✭Galego

Thanks for the welcoming! I am actually happy with the output! So happy that i actually bought a 5kwh battery few weeks ago. :-)

6.84kWp south facing, Roscommon. 4.8kw battery.

    Nov 2022

268kWh generated (259 forecast) , ahead of the full year forecast since early November,

    (25.8kWh to Eddi )

(37% of total consumption, self produced)

Total consumption 634kWh. 125kWh PV to/from from battery. 34 kWh exported

    360kWh imported (no day/night meter)

19.8kWh generated best day (03rd Nov)

1.7kWh generated worst day (19th Nov)

Another month over and our first year done so will put some figures together for the 12 months

    South Roscommon, 8.16Kwp, facing 210° at 35°, 9.6kWh battery

Total generation 351.5kWh (good bit up on prediction at 292kWh)

    Consumed 583.1kWh

Energy from Grid 280kWh (increasing as more charge for the EV needed going into the darker months)

    Energy to Grid 46kWh

    To the Eddi 64.3kWh

To the Zappi 206.5kWh (doubling up on last month with more charging)

    To the Battery 243.20kWh

    From the Battery 208.30kWh

    Best day 5th with 23.2kWh

    Worst day 26th with 1.7kWh

Running about 87% self use, same as last month

Energy exported would have generated €8.28 at Energia FIT rate if on a smart meter, we are D/N. Hoping to see a deemed export on the bill this month as the form was only received by ESBN in the last few weeks so have missed out on payments from February.

    8kw system.

Solis monthly report says 377kwh generation this month due to the solis reporting bug.

Actual generation is 303kwh. I checked the yield last night before the month kicked over.

So solis report is overestimating it by 74kwh, which is quiet a big error.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,786 ✭✭✭DownByTheGarden

Do it the way you learned in school. Go to the kids pencil case, steel their protractor. Use the protractor, piece of string and a nail for weight. Go up to the attic, put the protracor agaist the roof. See where the string lands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,086 ✭✭✭silver_sky

The app counts charging from the grid as generation, but the inverter doesn't. It's very strange.

    November Stats

    7.44kWp (4.03 south/3.41 west), 20kWh battery, Zappi & Eddi – Donegal

    Generation – 154.7kWh (118% of estimate)

    Export – 1.9kWh

    Import – 919.8kWh

    Best day – 3rd, 13.2kWh

    Worst day - 21st, 0.4kWh

Huge import this month, as I've been running electric heaters in place of using the oil. My estimated savings for November for heat alone is just over €220. I've used over 200 litres less oil compared to November 2021.

If you go to total yield in your app for end of yesterday. Then go to the total yield at the end of last month. Take one away from the other you get the correct figure.

So many people think they are generating up to 50% more in the month than they actually are from the people ive been speaking to about it.

Just looked at mine for today. Right now at 2:25pm It says 11kwh generation. But the real generation is 3.7kwh. That 300% over estimation for today. Awful software.

6.1 kWp, South facing, just south of Cork City

291 kWh for November which is as predicted, but 50 kWh less than last November year...

Best day 22 kWh on the 5th November

Self-consumption of 58% which is getting better, the EV is soaking up a few more kWh on the good days, but also I am generating less so, the % use is going up.

I see a lot of people are posting now how much they consumed in their houses well I burned through 1,688 kWh for the month (imported 1,396 kWh). I'm going to have an interesting bill come January, but I am with Electric Ireland so I should get a couple of hundred of a FIT payment (they are promising!!) and the gov subsidy should take a bit of the sting out of it.

All electric house with an EV so 64% of that consumption is between the EV and the heat pump.

First Full month after installation for me.

Location Clonee. Total install 3.8kwp with 5kwh battery.

    East facing 1.52kwp

    South facing 2.28kwp

    Total generation was 142.8 KWH

Best day was Nov 16th with 8.8kwh, worst was Nov 26th with 0.7kwh.

Best day overall was October 28th the day after installation with 11.1kwh.

Consumption has ballooned in the last month, have an inlaw OAP living with us and the day room is an outside shed where the heating is a Dyson, my god its painful seeing the energy in the battery just disappear.

Wow, nearly 1700kWh used for the month and it’s a decent A rated house from what I recall you said. We’ve a BER at the other end of the scale, but a small house so easier to heat. We used 570kWh in Nov (for house plus low mileage EV, but gas cooker) – that’s most we’ve ever used. We’re also running most heating on electric (plug-in rads). That’s only 110kWp or so for electric heating. Ok, it wasn’t 100% electric heating as also use the gas to ‘boost’ the hall and upstairs (small house).

Not looking to gloat, but I though us heading for 600kWh was a big jump. In summer we use around 450kWh between the house and EV. So maybe you’re EV does a lot of mileage, ours doesn’t.

Edit: We've a gas cooker, which we'll change in time. Use the air fryer too at times

    November gone already......

Slightly better than last year (111.2Kwhr verses 99.4Kwhr last year - PVGIS for me is 96.6Kwhr)

I know this from last year, but the E/W splits are not good in winter. I generated 111Kwhr from 5.3Kw, giving me 20.94Kwhr/1Kwp. My shed installation (not included above in the spreadsheet) facing exactly 180 generated 65.88kwhr from 2.3Kwp giving me 28.64Kwhr/1Kwp.

If you take out the car it's an even 1000 kWh for the month, but we both work from home so there is someone in the house every day which makes a difference. I also have two teenage kids (19 +17) that take literally 20-30 minute showers every day so that bumps up my consumption as well.

I am happy with the performance of the house over the last 12 months I "only" imported 9000 kWh (excluding the EV) which puts me about 55%+ less than the average residential house in Ireland Residential | Energy Statistics In Ireland | SEAI so I think its pretty efficient, but there is always room for improvement.

Living and working in the house 365 days a year obviously is the driver here, house is around 2500 sqft also

Ok, so I haven't yet got my head around numbers for an all electric house (which should be the norm of course as we need.it). Ta for breaking that out.

I have 'hidden' usage with my gas cooking and heating I need to factor in. And our kids are a decade younger so less energy hungry :)

3.2 kwp SE, .8 NW, .8 W and a measly 89 kwh produced for November. My pergola and shed mounted panels really suffer at the moment as the sun doesn't rise much above the houses behind me.

Another 2.4kwp planned for the extension roof in the summer which should make a big difference next winter, just have to build the extension now😀

As we are coming to the end of the year, does anyone have their full years daily production that they could share without going to too much hassle? i.e. broken down per day.

It would help with a project I am working on.

Done 1st dec 2021 to 1st dec2022 as Ive made changes at the start of dec which would skew the numbers. csv not allows so xlsx.
