It was flashing white, not green before turning red. I know flashing white is the timer, but I don't have any set.

It'll flash white when it's waiting for the charger to start, then start flashing red when it doesn't

I've found starting the AC chargers from the app can be a bit hit and miss, things start timing out and getting stuck

Maybe next time start it from the app first and then plug in, might be more successful

was wondering while doing an essential journey last night - are electric cars any more dangerous in lightening storms?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,567 ✭✭✭cannco253

    Nope

    Reminded me of this clip

nothing is 100% foolproof, but shouldn’t be a problem

some weather yesterday on the Galway Dublin motorway.

Horrific consumption on the way up , driving into the headwind and thunder storm I was using over 28 kWh/100km, worst I’ve seen since I had the car

Anyone got issues with the Radio reception quality - i keep hearing crackling on the FM stations & cannot get any DAB stations (i could with my ID3 in the Dublin area)

Somewhat noticed that with the brakes. Either I've gotten used to it or it doesn't happen any more.

Fortunately the id4 goes on fire far less than a zafira.

Bad door latches isn't unknown. Record it happening and bring it into the dealer. It can be a child lock issue too, but either way unlocking the car should allow doors to be opened.

Yeah, I got on the motorway at thurlas on Monday with 20km range and by cashel I had 158km. High 20s consumption on that short stint. Used my monta free credit at ionity to get me home.

A charging app. It links with wecharge too, so it knows your battery %. Works with ionity at 71c/kWh. Nothing special about the rate, but a free €10 credit for both of us if you sign up and use my username as a referral code.

Random question for dublin based ID owners - do you see DAB stations in the radio list? I know RTE closed DAB down but i seemed to recall seeing other ones (like country music) present when i had the ID3 but not seeing any now but i think there could be a signal issue with the ID4.. Thanks!

I'm driving the ID.4 nearly a week now and my 20 years of driving experience clutching, gear shifting and to a certain extent breaking have all disappeared.

This car while it takes a bit of getting used to is simple to drive and I have no issues except one.

Like others the breaks (I think)

I too also hear a creaking/ squeaking noise from the breaks when coming to a complete halt and creep forward.

VW have done a great job silencing everything considering it is an electric car but this noise for a brand new expensive car is to me unusual/ noticeable.

The car is driving fine, no noises going over speed ramps, uneven surfaces or applying the breaks when in motion but when I come to a complete stop and break as I would break in any conventional car theres a squeaky/ sticky breaks kind of noise.

Is this noise common on all ID.4's or does it warrant a visit to a VW dealer to check it out?

There is 850kms on my car to date.

    Thanks

My cupra born does it too. As does my father's full fat Audi etron. Probably a lot of ICE cars do it too but the vibration from engine drowns it out.

Sounds pretty normal for an EV, they’re so quiet otherwise you just really notice this type of noise. Generally it’s worse if the car is washed and then sat around for a bit as the discs end up with a slight rusty coating on the face. Wet weather like we’re having currently won’t help either. It’ll probably improve as the brakes bed in and you may also get used to it somewhat.

I remember when I got the Leaf I kept getting freaked out by a banging noise from the boot whenever I accelerated or braked

Turned out it was the buggy shifting in the boot, I never noticed it before in the Toyota because the engine was reving

Definitely took some getting used to the silence

Car is due in for the update this week. Just wondering did people find it stable when they got the car back? Don’t want any problems as trip this weekend.

Mine has had no issues since the update, I think most people have been fine but there's been a few cases of the update needing multiple tries

If you're not sure you'll get it back in time then it might be safer to delay until next week

I was sitting behind my car the other day and I noticed the boot on my id.4 is slightly off on one side.

It's not that noticeable a few mm but if you were looking for alignment problems you would see it.

The gap on the left side is greater than that of the right side.

I bought the car as brand new from a VW dealer, is this a build quality mistake or has anyone else with an

    ID.4 noticed this too?

    Here's a couple of pictures.

I haven't noticed any issues with mine, but I'll go check

If it's that visibly off them it's probably worth getting the dealership to look at it, they really should spot something like that in the pre delivery inspection

Might be worth doing a visual check or the boot opening to see if there's anything lodged in there which might be preventing the boot from closing fully on that side

Nothing lodged in the way to stop it closing, it definitely looks like it's from the manufacturing line.

I just found predelivery inspection report in the glove compartment and everything is ticked as good to go.

The car only had 3kms on it I think when I drove it out of the dealers so I doubt it got a bang from behind!

Due in Wednesday morning. I hope to have it back Friday. Do you think that’s wishful thinking ?

I got mine back same day, as did a lot of other people. There's been a few horror stories though, @Black_Knight had his car in for over a week before it got updated

Over 2 weeks in fact. Was a dodgy OBD2 port in the end. Fixed that and update went smoothly

Sounds good so! They have promised an ID 3 as a lend. For some reason don’t feel comfortable enough going on trip with the 3 even though it’s practically the same car lol

Nice that you got an EV loaner, most dealerships seem to try and pass off a diesel T-Roc on people (probably because no-one wants to buy them)

It's a charging app. I have it on my new charger from Electric Ireland. It manages home charging and also plenty of public chargers. I noticed the new bank of chargers in Liffey Valley is accessed via Monta. App works very well and very neat charger.

I've been looking at the ID4 Business model and it's so frustrating that it's just above the grant threshold, unless you go for a non-metallic paint.

With talks of another price increase across the board from January it will be pushed well beyond the grant threshold. You'd have to wonder if the Life DX model is even at risk of being pushed over.

Have you considered the Model Y or an Ioniq 5 instead?
