Doesn't default but it's easy to change the slider on the infotainment screen when charging to a lower amount.. I use it sometimes to avoid using power at home as we get free charging at work.. you have to set it back to the desired target charge level or it stays at the level

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,771 ✭✭✭✭ted1

It was 100% but it changed to 50% on its own.

I’ve the Ohme pro charge point with reads the SoC from VW. So use that to control the max charge

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,877 ✭✭✭micks_address

Hasn't ever changed on its own account on ours but who knows

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,152 ✭✭✭✭KCross

Best guess is that someone inadvertently did it while “playing” with the infotainment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,122 ✭✭✭hold my beer

Yeah mine has never changed by itself. I also have no issues with the parking sensors, raining or any other time.

I've an odd home charger issue recently, and since the car went in for 2.4 (though can't be sure its related). I've an EO mini pro 2 and use it to schedule charging at night which has been working fine for the last year. Since the update, or coincidentally around the same time, when charing it only charges at 4kW instead of 7kW like normal. Now, I know of the issues with the VW charging timers and I'm not using them. The car has no location set and no timers set in any way. The EO mini has a timer to charge from midnight, which has been working fine until now.

It starts charging correctly with the EO timer but only at the lower rate, and I can see from the EO app the rate is 3.6 or 3.8kW. If I pause and restart the charge most of the time it will go to 7kW. Also if I plug the car in with no timer set it will start charging at 7kW. So its not an issue with the charger or cable or car directly. I've seen talk of similar issues due to the car going to 'sleep' and not waking correctly which might be causing this, and I had seen something similar to this briefly when I got the last year but it seemed to fix itself after playing around with it. I've tried toggling settings like reduce ac on/off with no luck.

Anyone else see anything like this since the update, or in general, with any tips on what might be causing this? I would think it's software related on the car itself but very hard to figure out where to go next. Not sure how much help ringing the dealer will be, so want to exhaust most troubleshooting options first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,152 ✭✭✭✭KCross

Sounds like a software compatibility issue between the car and charge point. Could be related to v2.4 alright.

Have you checked if there is any software updates for the EO mini?

Have you tried a restart of the charge point?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 826 ✭✭✭dave oc

Yeah I've tried power cycling the charger from the fuse box. The EO mini app is basic at best, so there's no updates available for it and it doesn't show the firmware of the unit or options to update it.

I'm going to keep playing around with settings, perhaps something got reset during the 2.4 update (I did notice some other small things reset after 2.4). I can try call the charger installer also, they might have some others reporting this recently or maybe there's a firmware update they can do. But I'm still leaning towards the car software being the issue.

I've noticed that when the ID.4 gets grid limited it tends to not pick back up to the full 7kW for a while even after the charger is providing full power

I've also noticed that if I don't push the plug in all the way before the lock engages it goes into some sort of emergency charging only mode and won't go above 1kW. You can see this if the charging light is alternating green and red (2 green pluses and 1 red IIRC)

Some more tests this evening, and maybe an interesting fix. I tried several times again with subtle different changes to settings (like changing the schedule charging type in EO app) but still the charge started and stayed at 4kW.

For fun I tried setting my location in the car settings, that would be used to set up scheduled charging from the car itself. I left all the settings as default, kept the schedules off and just toggled some options like reduce charge rate on/off. I connected the charger and let it wait to charge on the EO schedule like the other tries and this time it started at 7kW!

Can’t be sure if this has fully resolved it and I don’t need to charge the car tonight so will have to wait a few days before I try properly overnight, but I’m hoping it’s a possible fix or workaround.

Hi all. My ID4 is still in offline mode and unable to load connection status after nearly 5 days now. Weconnect support have it with their ‘advanced technical team’ but they are certainly taking their time about it. They have sent some steps to rectify the issue but all can only be used if the car is online!! Any suggestions would be appreciated please!

Pull out fuse #19 leave it out for a few minutes and plug it back in.

its in the panel in the left hand side of the glove box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,142 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

If there's a convenient VW service center you can bring it there. They can reset the telematics unit using OBD and that generally clears up the connection issues for a while

If you have an OBD dongle you can probably do it yourself as well, but I don't know if anyone has figured out the codes yet

Does having your car parked in the sun first thing in the morning improve the consumption?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,877 ✭✭✭micks_address

I was wondering while driving last night if anyone had come up with lumed or glow in the dark stickers for the touch controls on the infotainment? Seems such a cheap call not to backlight them

I just use the steering wheel controls, but yeah they could really do with backlighting them

Depends on what you're trying to do, it doesn't help if your car gets too hot 😉

My driveway is north facing, so the cars are always in shadow. I'm not sure it's made any real difference to the consumption

Didn’t work, charged last night and still started at 4kW. Back to the drawing board.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,585 ✭✭✭Heroditas

I've an EO Mini Pro 2 as well and even though I have it dialled up to charge at 7kW, it only ever charges at 4kW.

I'm going to check with EO if they have any idea what's going on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 368 ✭✭Liam2021

I have an eo mini pro. It charges the id4 at 7kw but it only charges the id3 at 4kw. As far as I know the id3 has a 16 amp lead and the id4 has a 32 amp. But I have used the bigger cable and it charged the id3 at 7kw before the update but now it will only charge at 4kw.

Interesting, just to double check you’re referring to scheduled charging from the EO mini? My car will pull 7kW if I don’t use a schedule. And it got 7kW on schedule from the EO before the 2.4 update, so I’m thinking something was changed or reset on VW side in the update that’s causing the lower charge rate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 368 ✭✭Liam2021

I used schedule charging on the eo mini. It works fine on the id4, giving 7kw. But on the id3 using schedule charging with the 32 amp lead from the id4 it only gives 4kw. But before the update i got 7kw.

  • Registered Users Posts: 127 ✭✭iSeano90

I have the EO Mini Pro 2 and ID4.

Sometimes, if I check the VW App, it shows to be charging at 3/4KW. If I stop it via the VW App and start again, it picks it up at 7KW. Makes me think its something VW related?

Most of the time, it does 7KW. But if I was needing to get a good charge in for the morning (rarely), I would have no confidence in leaving it without checking!

In for the update today. God only knows how long it'll take to get done. I've been told a couple of days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,530 ✭✭✭ECO_Mental

Any of you guys get the issue when you click the button to put up you window it goes down!! Have to then click it up again to make it go up..is this a strange feature or an issue?

Not too annoying but just wondering.

I get that. Like yourself it’s not too annoying but you’d expect much much better for the money

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,142 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

VW have just about managed to figure out what a compute is, they've yet to figure out how to actually use one 😂

Actually from their new boss, it seems they're getting Continental to do the thinking for them

No sign of the car yet. Hopefully tomorrow, as the diesel Passat they gave me is getting low on diesel! Shocking range from it too. 200km stated when I picked it up, I've driven about 30km, 110km left. Any ev gom wouldn't be as bad as that!

No ID available as a loaner?

  • Registered Users Posts: 70 ✭✭crassusg

Took 2 days for mine and the day of collection the seatbelt tensioner threw a fault so had to pop in the following week to get that replaced. They did charge the car to full on collection the following week though which was nice :)

Hi again. Has anybody experienced a fault with their Elli charger?, my had been working fine and then today mid charge just stopped working and I have no LED’s on the unit at all. I tried to turn the isolator off and on again, that didn’t help and did the same with the main fuse. Looks like a fault inside which is above my pay grade! Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,152 ✭✭✭✭KCross

     Looks like a fault inside...

I think your conclusions are probably correct. You'll need to look at a warranty repair. Get your spark back to check out cabling and to pop the cover off and check a few basics and then if all that checks out its probably a case of shipping it back to Elli for a repair/replacement.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,162 ✭✭✭BlazingSaddler

God that sounds like a disaster, getting the sparks back out, shipping it back to them, waiting for them to confirm it’s faulty, waiting on them shipping a new one, getting it fitted. Not good 😞. Anybody thinking of getting a new charger maybe get one supplied and fitted and don’t buy the charger independently!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,162 ✭✭✭BlazingSaddler

VW have just asked me to remove the front cover and take a picture of the internal wiring using a certified electrician to do so!. Do you think this is something I could do as long as I ensure the isolator and fuse are both turned to off?!!! Not entirely sure how to remove the front cover mind you!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,152 ✭✭✭✭KCross

You could do that yourself. They just want to make sure you dont electrocute yourself.

Just ensure its powered off at the consumer unit.

Popping off the cover is relatively easy but you do need to make sure you dont force/break the plastic as you pop it off. iirc you pop off the white surround and then there is a screw of some kind for the next bit but not that difficult.

If you feel comfortable with that, it will mean you cut out the electrician callout fee (which Elli wont pay for).

  • Moderators Posts: 12,390 ✭✭✭✭Black_Knight

Nope. In a 2 ltr diesel Passat. And still no sign of my car. 3 full days in the garage and the latest is "we haven't been able to start the update yet". Something about issues getting the update loaded onto the car so they can actually start the install.

Pretty annoyed about it all. Doubt I'll get it back Monday, so hopefully Tuesday? Very disappointing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,598 ✭✭✭Padraig Mor

Hit the 30k km mark on mine today, just shy of 18 months. Last 10k km had an excellent average consumption of 15.5 l/100km; 16.8 l/100km overall for the 30k km. Not too shabby at all really!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,142 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Car is dropped off for the 2.4 update. I forgot to charge is last night so they'll probably yell at me because the SoC is too low

I might still get it back before @Black_Knight gets his back though 😜

I parked at the fast charger when I dropped mine in (had maybe 20% soc when I arrived). I've heard nothing about it since, so I'm guessing the Saturday/Monday attempt either didn't go well, or didn't happen at all. It sounds like they've a string of them in for the update, though I could swear they told me back in August that they only do 1 a day.

@Padraig Mor have you had yours done yet? You're blackwater on Forge hill too, right?

I usually try keep the inside and outside of the car clean, but with the loaner... kids are eating everything and anything in there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,598 ✭✭✭Padraig Mor

Yeah, Forge Hill too. Nah, haven't bothered with the update - seems like a clusterfuck for many people so reckon I'll wait until they've ironed out the gremlins (if ever...). TBH I haven't heard anything about the updated features that puts me in a rush to get it anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,142 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Got mine back, update worked first time, seems the update gremlins didn't strike this time

They didn't charge it but they did clean the car, inside and out 😁

Not much to report with 2.4, I know it doesn't really fix anything visible. I did get prompted for an update straight away but it was just an update to We Charge, not the big 3.0

Car felt a bit funny on the way home. It felt at one point like the regen kicked in for a second even though I didn't touch the brake. Might just have been my imagination but we'll see how it goes

Had my id4 updated in forge hill too recently. Think I dropped on a Wednesday morning and was ready by Thursday afternoon so not too bad. And I’m fairness they charged it too. But my main question is and one which I can’t get a clear answer : can I now update to software 3.0?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,152 ✭✭✭✭KCross

Yes but it will be pushed to the car whenever VW decide, not at a time of your choosing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,142 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Yes, they're apparently doing the update one country at a time, so it won't arrive for a while

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,122 ✭✭✭hold my beer

@Black_Knight didn't you do something to the car that someone said shouldn't be done? You reckon that's why it's taking so long?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,472 ✭✭✭cannco253

I’m definitely seeing lower consumption with 2.4, in particular city driving.

3.0 is stop/start in Germany only atm so if it happens here before Christmas it would be a good result.

I don’t think setting up travel assist with an OBD11 would impact the 2.4 update - from what I’ve been told anyway - but it would be captured in the cars history log.

  • Moderators Posts: 12,390 ✭✭✭✭Black_Knight

Nothing much. A few settings changes. I reverted anything I did to the car before giving it into them.

From what I was told, even though it went in Wednesday, they didn't start trying to install it until Saturday or maybe Monday.

Software & 12v battery update done today, surprisingly efficient - dropped the car off at 9.30 & it was ready by 3pm. I was ready to not have it back until tomorrow
