I'd say McCarthy holds the world record for 20 run overs. Seems to bowl at least one a game

First two overs excellent but maybe not the best idea throwing the ball to the leggie in the second last over

Khan off course is 25 off 8 after being dropped on 0.

    12.09 required per over.

fûckin hell, some really dogshît bowling, short, wide, full tosses….dropped catches..

lucky the umpires were quite lenient especially on the wides, one was barely on the pitch and the umpire ignored it.

if the openers find a groove and get us a couple of big overs from the get go we have a chance, but … can’t see it. Not how we play.

jeez, Kahn was 30 from just 10.

    What did I just see? Balbirnie 4, 4, 6!

    and then gone!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

What annoyed me about this Afghan side is the number of occasions between overs, wickets and deliveries the Afghan side constantly getting together for a conference, yet the umpires doing nothing, pair of them like tailor shop dummies watching on in silence, same the last game. Obviously done to take the flow and impetus out of Irelands innings.

ireland need to put the boot down, nudging singles won’t cut it. Last two lazy over have put them basically out of it. No thinking big.

  • Registered Users Posts: 729 ✭✭✭wicorthered

Maybe Ireland should take a leaf out of their book. How many times do Irish bowlers go for 4,6,4 etc. Maybe killing the game for a minute would help that.

Jesus Paul Stirling has gone to the dogs.

This is one of the worst chases you're likely to see. It amazes me how panicky they are in T20.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

I’d prefer these two jokeshop statues started umpiring.

it’s with that wicket, done, 2-2…

  • Registered Users Posts: 729 ✭✭✭wicorthered

They'll be bowled out in less than 10 overs here.

Isn't there a cliché that catches win matches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,392 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

Any tactic like that is worth it to break things up in this sort of thrash cricket game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,392 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

So Afghan score 50ish off our final 3 overs bowling and we score just about 13 of their final 3..... down the tubes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 729 ✭✭✭wicorthered

I really don't know what the coaches actually do. Nothing seems to be improving.

All summer wides have been a massive issue. Again today how many runs have wides and the extra delivery cost? What are the coaches doing to remedy this? Why has there been no improvement.

Mark Adairs final over consistently goes for a big number. Why is he A still bowling the last over and B why have the coaches not improved him?

For 3/4 years now the batting consistently collapses. One wickets brings 4. Why have the coaching staff not improved this.

Batsman keep throwing their wicket away to braindead slogs straight to fielders. Why has there been no improvement in the last 3/4 years?

Ireland consistently with both bat and ball get themselves into great positions. Even today after the 8th over in Afghan innings, Ireland were on top, they then blew the last 3 spectacularly. They the scored 28 off the first 9 balls, but collapsed spectacularly. Why do they cave so easy under pressure?

Important catches regularly go down. Do they work on this.

In any other sport the coaching would be questioned

Tyrone Kane beat Clontarf virtually on his own on Saturday with bat and ball, yet he's nowhere near the squad. WTF is going on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

3 years in the international wilderness. I suppose 9 wickets and 50 runs in 8 internationals might be what is putting the management off selecting him…

he had quite an opportunity but he wasn’t pulling up trees….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

The point about Adair is important…

coaches and management don’t need to be loyal to players, just loyal to getting results.. why is Adair bowled constantly at the death ? Its a decision that is not working and it hasn’t worked… we’ve all had bosses who in a meeting will decree going with plan A, and when plan A isn’t working they don’t want to stray from their decision .. and will just to save face.. “ that’s the way we are doing things “.. proper leadership… “ ok, that’s not working let’s go with plan B “..

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,435 ✭✭✭Scoundrel

He couldn't do any worst than Campher who has been a total dead weight all summer. Hand comes in for one game does well and is then dropped.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,435 ✭✭✭Scoundrel

Kevin O'Brien retires what a fantastic servant to Irish Cricket gave us all some special moments.

It would be a real bummer to go 2-0 up, in a home series, vs Afghanistan and end up loosing 3-2.

Weather is forecasted to be overcast and dry, temperature a bit on the cool side with light winds so we should get the full 40 in…

So because he didn't deliver three seasons ago, he shouldn't be picked! Are you an Irish selector? We need to be picking on form, not on reputation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

We need to pick on ability.

am I an Irish selector ? What do you think ? And why do you ask ?

He didn’t deliver when a prolonged opportunity was enabled to him…

he has shown no ability to step up to international level.

So because he didn't deliver three seasons ago, he shouldn't be picked now! I get it, many thanks for your valueless input.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yes, when he had a prolonged run in the team he didn’t perform :). Valueless input ? Ok, if you have to resort to such childishness because another poster has a conflicting opinion to yours , sublime :)

Ireland win the toss and bowl..

    Campher in for Hand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

26/3 and Barry MCarthy with a catch of the series probably, off Adair... brilliant..

Should be 4 down...Ireland achieved a run out but not out on the field but no tv reviews available

Poor captaincy by Balbernie.. turning to Simi Singh... 6th bowler , why ? When bowlers 1-5 were going brilliantly .. 20 off his over ffs

Little with two in a row in the 11th. On a hatrick when he starts his last over later

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Rain delay... hopefully not too long a delay.. an excellent contest with ireland favourites

135 I think should be around the Afghan total

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Covers come off.. players have to wait about a 15 minute delay waiting for the umpires to finish their tea or whatever the fùck they are doing... by the time they appear.. doing a sloth like stroll out to the middle.. rain is coming down again.. much heavier now. Not looking good..heavy downpour

Play about to start, reduced to 7 overs .. target 56.. 8 an over needed.

4 dots from the captain, then a 6.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Big over 11 scored and was much needed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

12 from 11 needed.. should be a formality with 8 wickets remaining.

Wicket falls.. why do this team have to make such hard work of the straightforward

7 needed off the last over..come on !

we win, lovely ..match and series. Great job.

Dockrell’s reinvention as a finisher has been spectacular. What a summer he’s had.

I see Josh Little has gotten a gig for Manchester in the 100 exhibition. Fair play to him. Can be a bowlers graveyard but access to high quality short format coaching and experience in pressure situations is no harm.

I’d say a good few could be in with a shout of T20 league action in 2023 too, especially with the IL20 and the CSA T20 clashing. You’d imagine Stirling, Tector, Little, Dockrell in with a shout of getting a payday somewhere.

Happy to defer to your unrivalled expertise in childishness, as displayed in your facile and asinine argument that because someone didn't perform three years ago they should never again be considered for selection. It must rank as one of the most imbecilic arguments ever posted on boards.ie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Where did I say he shouldn't be ‘considered’ ?

As for ‘never again considered for selection’

dont think I said that either.

childishness ? Think you might want to reread your post and see which one of us is being childish..

Great to get a series win and several players have clearly improved for all the top level cricket we've played recently. Dockrell an absolutely deserved man of the series preformed in every single game with the bat including when everyone around him was not performing and was excellent with the ball when given a chance as well. Tector and Tucker the other 2 who have really shown they have bright futures ahead. Hopefully a good few lads get chances in the hundred or the various T20 leagues now the more cricket played by our lads the better.

yep, will be a big confidence booster hopefully…

be nice if we can iron out the little annoying afflictions that sometimes persist..

one being the number of extras we concede. Tend to bowl a few too many wides…

Hopefully we tour WI in the following 5 years which would roughly coincide with my 50th.

Irish ladies going excellently vs the Netherlands.

    197/2 after 36 overs… 300 plus a formality.

live on YouTube although coverage is shít.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

    337/8

An excellent total but the glut of cheap wickets falling at the end was disappointing...probably cost us 25-30 more runs.

Netherlands bowled out for 127 in just over 33 overs……sheeet. Great dominant performance by Ireland..

Interestingly, Stirling bowled a tidy enough 2 and a half overs in the hundred there for 1/10.

We haven’t seen an awful lot of his bowling for a long time in Ireland colours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

    Ladies beating Scotland quite comfortably

    Scotland 133-6 (20 overs; S Horley 52, A Lister 25; A Kelly 2-12)

    Ireland 137-2 (16.2 overs; O Prendergast 75*, L Delany 36*; K Fraser 2-31)

6.7 the RRR from the get go it wasn’t a formality but to do it with that many overs and balls remaining and that many wickets intact, some going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

if anyone has the time Ireland vs Scotland ladies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Ireland making light work of chasing down the modest total set by Scotland which was 127.. Ireland 44/1 from just 5 overs in reply… but the rain has intervened…. Positive outlook for later though.. hopefully they can finish it out and finish Scotland off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Easy victory all be it am impressive performance

I see the Ireland ladies are hammering Papa New Guinea

we scored 168/3 of the 20.

in reply Papa New Guinea 47/3 after 8

something you don’t see very often and probably a reflection of the gulf in ability between sides is the fact three Irish batsmen retired not out to give their teammates an opportunity out in the middle..
