Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

@SavageSpuds how did the interview go? Any advise for someone doing it in another county?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1 Benlee1966

No.2 OOM for chosen location; waiting to see what happens next.

  • Registered Users Posts: 43 SavageSpuds

Hard to say re advice, presuming everyone will have to do the presentation exercise, know how you got the results for your presentation i.e. where you got the data and how you converted it from whatever format it was online to the format you used to do up a table/illustrate the data. Apart from that just know your competencies and your examples and you should be grand.

Interview was ok, the board were super nice. But felt I didn't do great myself, cracked under the pressure 🙄 just have to wait and see

  • Registered Users Posts: 43 SavageSpuds

Crikey @lar18 that's terrible, do you know for sure you're out of the competition or just assuming based on how much your OOM went up? Honestly that's how I felt at first when the shortlisting was complete, my OOM went up by over 50 places, I lost hope but then got invited to stage 3 so you never know.

No idea re how many positions there are, but it did say in the booklet that the majority of the positions will be based in Dublin and there's no guarantee of a position in every county, so it's possible there'll be no positions in some counties...

Has anyone who picked Dublin as their location preference heard anything further from PAS? I got through the interview stage and was placed on the merit of order but haven't heard anything since

  • Registered Users Posts: 43 SavageSpuds

Same here... got put on the OOM for Dublin but nothing since. Wondering how many positions they have available to start with... hopefully something will come of it eventually! Wondering if anyone outside of Dublin has had any more updates since the shortlisting results? This is a slooooww competition...

  • Registered Users Posts: 3 CDA2022

Yeah it would be nice to know - the process started in March so hopefully we will hear something soon. Think I'll give it another few weeks and then might send an email asking for an update on it.

I contacted PAS the day the interview results came out and asked how long it would be before people who passed the interview would be assigned. PAS said they were waiting on AGS to advise how many people they were looking for before beginning the clearance process. They said I would be contacted when they reached my place (I was top 10 for Dublin). Presumably they are still waiting on AGS to come back to them.

I applied for Galway and got a message on Tuesday about Stage 3.

What OOM are u for Galway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 696 ✭✭✭houseyhouse

    Top 10

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭RichPersonInsideAPoor

Ok thanks. They might be interviewing in batches of 10 so. They’ll hardly need more than that in each county I’d say

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 696 ✭✭✭houseyhouse

Are you also hoping for Galway? What oom are you?

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭RichPersonInsideAPoor

No, I’m 17 Waterford. But I doubt they’ll need that many EO’s in Wat (but if they’re interviewing 10 for Gal they might interview 10 for Wat too). I doubt they’ll go much past that OOM tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 696 ✭✭✭houseyhouse

Ah ok. Given that some people didn’t seem to get past stage 2, I was thinking they’re going to interview everyone with an oom, no? That’s what I assumed anyway. After all, I could be completely incompetent in the interview and then they wouldn’t want me.

Id love if they interviewed everyone and gave us all a shot but I doubt it’d happen. Like I think there’s at least 50-100 OOM per county? and there might only be 1-2 positions per county… They may not take from some panels at all so some counties, even if ur number 1, won’t place. I don’t think they ever said how many places nationwide there are so I’d imagine it’s a small number I’d guess about 20-25? Ive no idea though.

I’m oom 12 for Galway and haven’t been called to stage 3 so it seems they’re only taking very few forward. I’m already in the CS and reading this thread is making me think twice about joining AGS..may be an interesting read for some https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058186048/garda-staff-removal-from-civil-service

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭RichPersonInsideAPoor

Yeah I saw that and tbh given a choice I’d rather be in the CS but I’m 100+ on the CS EO panel so have to give AGS a go if I want to be in the public sector

  • Registered Users Posts: 8 amo22

Absolutely…just a shame that they couldn’t leave as is cause this role does sound interesting…something to weigh up I suppose

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 696 ✭✭✭houseyhouse

Oh this is interesting. I’m surprised they haven’t even got to 12. Galway should have a decent number of openings given it has a regional hq.

The business about CS vs AGS staff is new to me. To be honest, I never thought of this position as a general CS position. I have a fairly specialised background so wouldn’t have applied for a general CS role. But the fact that they are treating civilian staff so poorly is worrying. Anybody know if the crime and data analysis folks are treated the same as general civilian staff in terms of respect and promotions? I would be taking a pretty big salary drop to move to this role on the basis that I can move up fairly quickly.

I’d imagine there’s only 1 or 2 positions open in Galway given the small numbers called to stage 3. Are the interviews commencing shortly? Best of luck if so!

Not entirely sure on treatment of analyst vs general EO’s in AGS…sounds quite messy atm. There is a nice jump in salary from EO analyst to HEO analyst so would be worth it if you could hold out the 2 years to be eligible for promotion

Up to OOM 4 invited to stage 3 for galway for any1 else curious

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 Dee3988

Did they advise you that you had to complete another analysis test too?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 Dee3988

Have you heard back about the Kilkenny area yet?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 chubLub

Does anybody know what OOM had been called for clearance on the Dublin panel?

  • Registered Users Posts: 43 SavageSpuds

@Creel you hear anything back yet? I'd imagine the top 10 if not 15 in the OOM for Dublin will be called first.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11 Creel

They reached my place on 10th August. I started clearance but ended up withdrawing because I was successful in the current Interdepartmental HEO competition. Would have loved to combine the Crime Analyst role with the HEO money but had to choose. Best of luck to everyone else - it really looks like a great job.

  • Registered Users Posts: 43 SavageSpuds

Ah congratulations! Good to know there's some movement on the panel anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 696 ✭✭✭houseyhouse

Did you get any sense of how long the clearance process takes? I lived abroad in a couple of non-EU countries so I’m concerned it could take a long time.

I was already in AGS, so my vetting was cancelled after a few days when the vetting unit realised. I withdrew shortly after. If you're coming into AGS from the outside, clearance can take months. When I joined several years ago (pre-Covid), it took five months from being assigned to being given a start date - and I had never worked abroad. Hopefully that has been reduced though. Best thing would be to check current competitions for other grades where people are getting assigned there - that will give you a rough idea as the clearance process will be the same.

Just looking over the job spec for this position again and I see that there is five weeks of introductory training, possibly in Templemore. Presumably they are going to try to run that training for as many people as possible all at once. I wonder does that mean people will be joining in batches?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 gazsheeg

Anyone got a formal offer for this yet? I went through the vetting procedure and emailed for an update but no contact in a few weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 696 ✭✭✭houseyhouse

When you say vetting procedure, do you mean the Garda clearance? They told me they only did that after making an offer, or at least that being on the panel didn’t mean they would start the clearance process.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 gazsheeg

They told me they reached my number on the panel and started clearance yeah. I had to send them in documents like degree parchments, list of previous addresses and sign a declaration. I got a link to complete Garda vetting as well, sent that through and it says that’s closed out and they read the disclosure. That was a few weeks ago though and I haven’t gotten any update since the Garda vetting if anyone else is in the same boat. I didn’t get a formal offer though, just that they reached my position on the panel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 696 ✭✭✭houseyhouse

I see, thanks. My understanding of panels is that if they’ve reached your number you will be offered the position so long as the vettting works out.

I’m in Galway and they only interviewed me and told me my OOM a couple of weeks ago so can’t help. Would love to know how long the whole process takes for you in the end.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 gazsheeg

Ah fair enough thanks. Best of luck with it, I’ll let you know soon as I find out😅

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 696 ✭✭✭houseyhouse

Turns out they’re only hiring a single person in Galway at the moment. Given that Galway is a regional HQ and is one of the biggest counties by population, that makes me think they could be hiring none at all in many places.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 gazsheeg

Ah sorry to hear that. Hopefully more will come up there soon. They had said to me that there’s 12 in Dublin so I thought the likes of Galway and Cork would have a good few as well

I was advised that it can take over 12 weeks (3 months) for all vetting to be completed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 Dee3988

    Anyone get any offers yet?

  • Registered Users Posts: 67 ✭✭WednesdayGirl

Im no 4 in a small county. Havent heard anything about interview and don't expect to at this stage

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 Dee3988

Anyone else get sent for sign off this week?Mine is gone since yesterday :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 39 Sinradler

@Dee3988 Whereabouts in the OOM were you, and which county?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 Dee3988

I was 1 in the OOM for Kilkenny. Why about yourself?

  • Registered Users Posts: 39 Sinradler

Ohhhhh I’m on the Dublin panel, in the 20s and the last time I checked in with them they had reached the teens and there was no more movement…it could be years!

Well done, hope the vetting doesn’t take too long for you!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3 CDA2022

Hi Dee3988, have you received an offer/contract yet or where are you currently in the process?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 Dee3988

No offer just yet waiting on sign off now then they will notify myself and HR to advise I have been cleared. Then HR will arrange a call with me about a start date.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 Dee3988

thank so much @Sinradler I have all my vetting and clearance completed already. So I may wait and see now 🤞

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 Dee3988

Anyone else get a job offer and start date for the 9/01/23?
