Huge trouble now. A red card for cork player. Brain dead stuff

That's the worst sending off I have ever seen.

Nice finish to the corner by Hurley.

Don't think so. Both pushing and shoving but then Walsh made contact with the head - hence a yellow.

This ref doesn't let anyone touch anyone. On both sides. Very frustrating

Sherlock off a very fine game, just got a yellow.

    Quater finals for the footballers.

I'd say that was the target at the start of the season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,864 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Job done in the end. Played better in the second half but still poor. Way too open in marking. Ref was very frustrating for both sides, any contact felt like a free would be given.

Good to get over the line with a man sent off as well

His first yellow could easily have been red. Closed fist to Limerick players face who had to go off with a burst lip. Accidental maybe, but a closed fist....!!!

He deserved the sending off obviously, I don't think the ref allowed anything like the level of shoving he was getting all game though.

Ref was fairly poor, very niggly stuff all through on both sides, the black card was a joke and only a free for giving the pen away.

Happy with that win. Too much space given up but overall a good win. Quarter finals is probably about as good as it'll get.

More good news as Cork interim manager John Cleary says joint-captain Sean Meehan will return to full training next week.

It had been reported earlier this year that Meehan, after travelling to London for surgery on his hamstring in March, was gone for the season.

Ah will you stop he bearly made contact and it wasn't a closed fist.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,034 ✭✭✭Amprodude

Its possible we could be playing Galway in both codes next weekend.

I see 1990 as the year we reached our peak as a county. For the size and tradition of Cork as a county, we have underachieved in both codes at senior level since 1990. Hopefully in the not too distant future, we'll finally realise our full potential in both codes.

Obviously i'd take any sort of all Ireland at this stage, but it would be nice to see us enjoy a Kilkenny 2000-2015 and Dublin from 2011-2020 like dynasty of success. Obviously we still have a bit of a distance to go, before we reach that stage in both codes.

From about the early 1950's to mid 1960's Limerick stopped entering teams in championship football. I only noticed this when i was going through the records recently.

What's that fella doing here anyway? There is a Limerick board. The JP McManus money still ain't doing them any good in football.😁

Cork won that's the main thing, but a lot of improvement is needed for the quarter finals. Obviously it's going to be a massacre against Dublin or Kerry, unless there's a huge improvement. I'd like to think we'd have some hope against Galway or Derry, but we need to improve massively from both today and the Louth game! Still though we were down to 14 men and got the win, and by staying up in division two and reaching the quarter finals, we've achieved our objectives for the year.

from near relegation to division 3 in the spring to a 1/4 final is a great turnaround. well done to all so far. yeah, we are well off an All Ireland but our players coming through from recent underage teams are getting as many games together as possible and we have something to build on

Closed fist. Sean Kavanagh even pointed out later. Accidental maybe, but dangerous. Limerick player went off with a blood injury.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,578 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Limerick may have the upper hand on us in hurling right now, but there was no way in hell we were allowing them to lord all over us in football as well.😁 As has already been pointed out, Cork have won seven senior all Irelands since 1988, and we've won thirteen senior all Irelands since and including 1973. Nine hurling all Ireland in 1976 1977 1978 1984 1986 1990 1999 2004 and 2005, and four in football 1973 1989 1990 and 2010. You can add hurling all Irelands in 1966 and 1970 to that total, since the Liam McCarthy cup last visited Waterford in 1959 as well.😁

Is it really considered a ‘turnaround’ if the 2 championship wins were Louth and Limerick???

Put it this way, people would have had a go at them if they lost to either of them. They didn't.

    They've gotten to a QF.

Which would have been their target surely.
