Battery needs to be at 35degrees minimum for max charge rate, how long to get from 7 to 52?

I got scan my Tesla hooked up. The battery was at 45°C at start. It took 15 mins to "pump" 35kWh in the battery which is 140kW average. Or 800-900km/h. By comparison at a 50kW triple ideally I'd get the same amount of energy in 45 mins. The car estimated 1h to 100% or 45 mins to 90%

I agree so, I would also have expected north of 200kW charging for sure at that SOC and battery temp.

Pulled in to Enfield around 2 weeks ago at 10% soc after pre conditioning from maynooth and pulled 252kw, 10-70% in about 25 mins in '21 M3p

Wanted to stop on way home yesterday as i was on 10% driving past Enfield but the kids were getting cranky after the trip from Donegal.

Fingers crossed for a SuC up near Carrick-On-Shannon or Sligo in the near future.

New Dual Carriage way up there from around Boyle to Sligo which is great.

Sligo SuC would open up a large chunk of the country.

Sandyford as of one minute ago, space tight, would prefer more room for door opening but is what it is

Sligo, Derry, Waterford, and teh country would be pretty much complete... then it's just supplemental growth like a few more in Dublin.. M50/M1 interchange etc... maybe Longford in a retail park.

There's a lot of Tesla's after being pumped in this yr and last, I'm in Sandyford at the minute getting a small paint correction and there's no free parking spaces. Teslas everywhere, never seen it as busy. Can see Ireland getting some SuC attention in the near term

And one MEB plonker parking in the middle bay puts at least 2 if not 3 bays out of use.

Interesting as the Enfield SuC has the chargers in the other orientation presumably for other manufactures probably due to space or maybe they wont allow the like of Audi who are just across the road to charge there.

That looks stupid. A Model X would probably not even fit between those lines.

I'd say that Tesla probably wouldn't want to open up the Superchargers at Sandyford to other manufacturers & thats why the units are turned differently than Enfield, would they really want a few VW's & Kia's blocking the superchargers at the Tesla Main showroom in Ireland

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,988 ✭✭✭✭mfceiling

Thing is if they do open the network they probably can't pick and choose which ones to open to other manufacturers.

Some egg on their face if you pull up to the main Tesla showroom and you can't charge because an ID4 is taking up 2 spots!!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,814 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Oh, I'd say they most certainly can decide which ones to open up, depending on speed/stalls/location etc. I agree with others, Sandyford too busy with Teslas to open up

They tend to get batches made for UK/irl by the shipload from china causing peak periods. The model y is in demand and being supplied now. Some months they sell nothing as no new stock arrives. It's a relatively small site to cater for most of Ireland. They should have picked a larger site particularly if they intended having superchargers on site, and if they want to open the network they would need more chargers and spaces than initially planned. It would be great PR for them to offer test drives to non Tesla owners using the superchargers. If they had ample chargers it could drive a lot if traffic to them. For example if they had 10 chargers with room for 10 or 20 more they could capture the charging market in that part of Dublin. If it makes financial sense Tesla could be the solution to non Tesla charging.

Sandyford was not wedged with new Tesla's, it was wedged with older S's mainly and 3s. I'd safety say they are all parked there waiting for parts. Parts inventory is an issue for Tesla. I'd say they can't wait to see the end of pre-facelift S's.

Of course they can. They even have an icon for it.

On the long run they have the potential to becoming the biggest charging network worldwide and across all brands. In 10 years time this would be a huge market. They produce the chargers themselves and they worked out a very cheap way of doing it.

The article here speculates to be 5 times less expensive than the competition and I tend to agree with them. Also in the same article we can see the point of the opening. Government money. Why let the competition benefit from "free money" when you're more capable to grab that pot. You do a proof of concept where you show the world that it is possible, then use the state money to build an "open" network. In TX the strategy failed but they will learn from this and get better. I'm pretty sure one reason for failure is the lack of ad-hoc cc payment or lack of human interface at the chargers. Funny for us in Teslas, s the thing that we appreciate the most, as it means it works in seconds.

No flaffing around with apps, "which one is this again, put charger in first and then initiate or vice versa?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,178 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

Thats what does it for me at non Tesla (eCars) sites... When I'm stopped, I want the car to be charging for the longest amount of that time that I'm actually stopped for, and with Tesla, I get that... reverse into space, and within 6-10 seconds of the car being put into park, it's plugged in and doing its handshake.. Likewise when leaving a SuC, I make sure everyone is in, belted up and ready to go before going to unplug the charger as I want as close to 100% as possible of the time stopped to be time charging.

In the 5-6 times I've had to use eCars in anger, probably only once or maybe twice it started charging first time of asking, but even still, that 10 seconds it takes on a SuC, takes about 30-45 seconds on the eCars units... then the other 3-4 times I used eCars in anger, the time to start charging ranged from 2 minutes to 15 minutes (multiple tries, calls to help desk etc...), and I just see that as lost time either charging or driving, and it really fcuking bugs me...

This faffing around with apps, it's time that's lost, and will happen at opened up SuC's, meaning a 30 minute charge on a SuC could ending up costing 35+ minutes of occupied time for a non Tesla..

First Supercharger stop since I picked up the car.

Oh my gosh, my eyes have been opened. This is exactly as it should be for EV charging in public, loads of chargers and back on the road in no time.

I picked up a model 3 last week and tested out SuC over the weekend and it is slick.... no messing about tapping cars, using apps etc... plug in, charge, plug out...

    245kw, first time at a v3 supercharger - Enfield, 1606km/hr

Belfast to Galway, started with 69%, car was ready in Enfield 10 mins before the kids finished their toilet break.

A nice new Model Y was there when I arrived, still there when I left.

The V3's are the bomb, used them in Mahon Point and there was just enough time to nip into the shopping centre for coffee, use the loo and get back to the car at 80% and ready to roll.

Spot on. At Enfield I found it hard to get a sandwich ordered and made up from the bar this week whilst plugged in. Charging is just too damn fast and had to go and move my car. But Im more than happy to have this 'problem'.

I plugged in at Enfield a few weeks ago at 27%, went in and ordered some food, had to go and move the car when it got to around 92% before the food had even arrived!!
