Would you fight for Dublin like Ukrainians are for Kyiv?

If a foreign superpower was invading us like Russia is Ukraine,

How many of you would stay and fight and be willing to die for this country?

Our capital has given so many so much in recent times.

Would it be a case of those who have prospered most on six figures for tech companies pissing off to safe locations while lower classes forced to stay picking up arms to defend this country?

Would you put your life on the line for this countries independence or would you go to a safe place and virtue signal on social media how you donated to the cause on some fundraiser?

Would you be willing to die for Dublin like the brave people of Kyiv have been willing to die for their beloved Ukraine?

Absolutely not.

If I could get myself and my family somewhere safe, that's what I would do.

I would fight to protect my love ones, not a place.

But would you not send them to a safe country and stay yourself and fight for this beautiful country like our forefathers did for our independence???

would I stay and fight ? Yes if I was given significant resources, automatic weapons, body armour etc…

im not going to take on the Russians with my set of Japanese steak knives and a baseball bat…

I'd leave and let the Welfare class fight for me, for 2 reasons.

1. Least they could do after all the taxes I've paid.

2. Since British dole is only £55 a week, they'd fight like rabid Spartan warriors to keep their unending Irish benefits!

If I was alive during the invasions/rebellions, I would have fought in them. I wouldn't join an army that fights foreign wars but part of me wishes I was in Ukraine shooting down Russian helicopters with stingers or blowing up tanks with javelins, but Ukraine has conscription so I would just be a liability.

Depends on which part, to be honest they could have a few sections of the city and fight for the rest

Some parts of Dublin if they actually took over them and had to deal with the locals I would expect that would be a better tactic than any gun fight to get rid of teh invaders

Except they did not fight for a beautiful country… I grew up in my grand uncle’s a veteran of the war of independence and for most of the war a member of a very active flying column. And I was lucky enough to have known many of the veterans in old age. I can’t recall any of them fighting for a beautiful country, it was always about the people and the way they were treated. The discussion in old age was always about the people and how their lot could be improved.

Would I fight yes, have I served yes. But it was drilled into me from a young age - “there is no point in having principles boy, if you are not willing to stand up for them”

Id like to say I'd fight. I'm certainly republican minded. In saying that, very hard to say for sure. Fight or flight kicks in and you wont know what you're made of until its real.

Similar to Ukraine though, if you dont get out early you won't be allowed leave. Once you can't leave you certainly will fight as not much option for anything else.

The majority. The fact most people in Ireland don't know which end of a gun is the right one is a problem but a lot of them would be running as soon as trouble comes around the corner.

We have a huge population who think been a hard man on the internet means they are a hard man in real life.

The whole premise of this thread is your country has been invaded

Are you saying you would refuse to believe the country had been invaded?

Or you don't believe your country being invaded is a legitimate reason to wage war on the invaders?
