Depends on so many things, whether you are rural or live in a city, off street parking, age, previous driving history, loyalty (Whether other cars, items) with them, etc etc. Plus helps to physically talk to someone on the phone and tell them they are robbers..🙂. Half joking, but seems to work sometimes..

FWIW, both our insurances did not increase recently when we changed from an Ioniq 28 to an Ioniq 5 and from an ID.3 to a Model 3. With Aviva over many years, for other insurances as well.

Just on the insurance side of things. Mine is up for renewal and I'm wondering are any insurers more sympathetic to EV's than others?

123.ie were the best for me. I have both my Model 3 & my 320d insured with them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 barryduffy

123 came in at €467 [M3 RWD, 38M, 1 of two household cars, off street, suburban, 3 points, 10+ yrs full licence and NCD]

    Chill were over €600

123 seem very competitive. How do you respond to question about whether car has

    a) alarm

    b) Immobiliser

    c) alarm and immobiliser

    d) alarm, immobiliser and tracking device

i also don’t see Model3 RWD listed but imagine the Model 3 S+ is similar.

anyone have experience with these issues?

I'm with 123 but they are coming in at €800. 2nd year in my own name. 15 years as a named driver in the wife's policy and 15 years on my own commercial policy. No points either. I'll ring around!!

They think my car is a LR, not an SR+ which didn’t show up in their system….

Currently with Aviva. However if I try to get a quote from Aviva, Tesla is missing from the list of manufacturers

    image.png

I can insure an Yugo though. :)

If I use the reg, the system recognize it

    image.png

    but then

    back to square 1

Aviva told us they will only insure a Tesla over the phone, but for once that was very quick and painless..

I used Allianz and their quote was easily the most competitive and cheaper than my ICE at €350 for the year. Try them or McCarthy Insurance Group in Cork.

A few observations from my first 441km:

    1) total KWhr = 65 and another 22% left so I’m pretty pleased given all driving is in cold-ish weather so far and all on short runs except for the drive home to Cork

    2) LOTS of beeps and chimes and noises inside the cabin, even in Joe mode…a bit annoying leaving the driveway tbh (maybe there’s a way to turn this off completely and I haven’t figured it out yet)

    3) No panel gaps or paint issues at all

    4) it does seem to need a relatively strong wifi signal to connect to wifi (antenna in the RHS wing mirror). It’s not that big a deal but I’ve worked hard to get wifi into my garden!

    5) turning circle is waaay larger than my ICE which I never thought I’d notice

    6) cabin heats up really quickly when the A/C is on, great benefit of the heat pump

    7) semi regret not springing for the LR

    8) think about #7 above and then tell myself to cop on…it’s a fab car all round

    9) Mahon SuC is almost never full. I’ve been keeping an eye on it whenever I’m there (at peak times so far).

    EDIT:

    10) the wireless charging almost never works on my iPhone 11 but I assume that’s either user error or Apple’s fault

Hmm on no 10 guy just posted on you tube his iPhone doesn’t charge properly either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,580 ✭✭✭eagerv

I have the same phone and seems to charge no problem, even when not aligned perfectly. Often depends on the case if charging problems..

Some serious price rises just after being applied to the model 3 on the Tesla Ireland site....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 170 ✭✭JohnnyMustang22

Nearly €3k hop in the model 3 SR. That'll be the increasing cost of battery metals.

They hit the UK site earlier in the week so perhaps something to keep an eye on going forward

I ordered a Tesla last week my estimated delivery date is August, I was wondering would it be better to trade in my car or should I sell it privately a month before my Tesla arrives?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,247 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

I was going to drop a deposit on a new Model 3 RWD last night, in the event we might want a new one in a year or so when they are available again...

    I wish I had!!!!!

I'm sure last nights price rise will do wonders too for 2nd hand values.....

    Fcuk It Anyway!!!

Deposit secures price, if anyone is interested in a 3 or Y they should always "gamble" on the deposit, it's only €100

Tesla are offering improved Trade In prices recently. I've "traded" mine in but almost 100% probability I will sell privately in the days before M3 collection, price your car to sell and it will move quickly, especially if an EV in current energy crisis fuel costs

Depends on what is important to you. If it's solely price, then private sale will always (almost) get you more.

But sometimes people don't want the hassles of dealing with tyrekickers and are prepared to accept lower price without the hassle. Also means you can keep driving your car up until pickup day.

It's mad because now changing the paint to Red, or changing the paint to another colour plus getting the 19" wheels makes the RWD Model 3 ineligible for the grant which adds another €5,000 to the price.

I think the Irish Government needs to reevaluate how they calculate the grant eligibility.

Just tried AXA and they are coming in at €507!! Happy days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,207 ✭✭✭innrain

Considering the number of sales, they will re-evaluate in the other direction. I bet that by the end of the year they will lower the threshold or reduce the amount, or both. In the first 2 months of 2022 there are more EVs sold than in the whole 2020. Pretty sure it is unexpected for the gov, considering they did nothing to warrant this increase. They inherited some grants and investments from the previous crowd and removed some or made more difficult to obtain and that's pretty it.

This came up a while back but I can’t find the post. Free supercharging on day of collection isn’t a thing anymore, my CC has been charged. It’s still small beers compared to petrol/diesel. I don’t think this is a biggie tbh but just to flag.

I was paying about €350 on a Golf R(fully comp/Full NCB,41 Years old). When I switched to a M3 I got a mid term refund of €24. So i am expecting about €300 next year which is nice. I guess I am at that stage in life that I am considered a responsible driver. 😆

Got the registration doc now in account. All becoming a bit more real! Roll on the 24th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 barryduffy

It's all a great little buzz. I got a tax disc through the door today - it felt like a little win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,401 ✭✭✭Fingleberries

Interesting - I would have considered myself a responsible driver and good prospect for insurer (home owner, 10+ years full licence and fully comp in own name, full NCB, OH is similar profile). Still everything comes in at €600+ ... maybe I've crossed that threshold of being too young to insure, resulting in a high premium, and am now too old to insure, resulting in a high premium.

Previous insurance (Auris 1.8 Hybrid) was max €400.

Hard to know...I would love to understand how they actually work these things out. My Golf R was €350 per year and I also have a BMW 535d estate which is €850. The BMW is a lot slower and safer than the golf but over double the premium! I live in the countryside and car is kept behind gates which probably helps my case.
