Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The gas thing is I'm not on prime, and delivery was listed at £4.87, a lot less than .DE at about €12, but at checkout I noticed there was a standard delivery option which was free, so what the hell, I wasn't in a hurry. I ticked it and still got goods in 4 days.

    • Items: £33.29
    • Postage & Packing: £4.87
    • Total before VAT: £38.16
    • VAT: £8.78
    • Total: £46.94
    • Promotion Applied: -£4.87
    • Order Total: £40.95

    That is routine.

The estimated delivery dates are far out to encourage people to buy faster delivery. But, at least for me who always chooses the slower free delivery, it comes much much faster than expected. That often causes problems for me!

    While I'm here.

Most of my deliveries now are made by Amazon's drivers. I get a message the day before saying delivery will be made before 9pm the next day.

I am rarely at home for a full day. It would be really nice to able to be pick this up myself from somewhere. Any indications of that being introduced in Ireland.

They should buy parcel motel. Can't use it for uk only suppliers since Brexit. Once whlle at my local Maxol, the Nightline guy was filling the lockers, I'd say half them were Amazon. You can still get a delivery to Irish parcel motel address, but no guarantee that packets from other than Anpost pets Amazon et al. won't be returned.

Amazon provide free delivery on orders over £25 for non prime buyers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,672 ✭✭✭obi604

    Hi.

bought an item on Wednesday from Amazon and it’s on route right now.

thing is I was in shops earlier and picked up exact same item for cheaper.

Can I do a “return to sender” ?? (if I indeed happen to catch the postman/courier etc)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,474 ✭✭✭VG31

If it's being delivered by Amazon Logistics you can cancel the delivery if you go to the tracking.

If it's An Post, when you get the text for alternative delivery options change the delivery address to the Amazon returns address in Portlaoise.

    Amazon Returns C/O An Post

    Portlaoise Mail Centre

    Clonminam Ind Est

    Portlaoise

    R32 AP22

thanks, how do I know if its being delivered by amazon logistics etc?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,672 ✭✭✭obi604

Edit: it will be delivered by An Post.

Does one always get a text about delivery?

Yes as long as you have provided a valid phone number you should.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,672 ✭✭✭obi604

the below options appear, which is best to choose?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,474 ✭✭✭VG31

To a neighbour probably, see if you can specify an alternative address. I haven't done it in a while, it might have changed.

    Otherwise just refuse the delivery.

My return label is for Dunfermlin Scotland. Is that likely to delay the refund & I guess will cost more ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,895 ✭✭✭Polar101

Yeah, would be great to have a pickup point option. Or even something like "Amazon Day" where you know what day they are going to deliver. Now it's always "to be delivered on Monday by 9pm" and then they usually deliver on Saturday or Sunday instead (and always at random times, so if you're not home for the whole day, you'll miss a deliery).

Or if they could have a delivery slot that gives a general idea on when the delivery will actually happen - the likes of DPD can manage that, so why not Amazon Logistics?

If you live anywhere near the north, amazon have collect points/lockers in the UK, just select one in newry or wherever and collect from there if you don't live too far! It's handy I get stuff delivered there and pick it up that Amazon won't deliver to the republic

    Yeah.

I have four things which I'd like to buy but can't until my next work break when I can be at home.

Making your customers dance around your needs is real monopoly power in action.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,438 ✭✭✭davetherave

There is a pick your day option if you have an England/Wales/Scotland, not NI, address picked. It doesn't seem to offer it if it is going to an Amazon Locker either. Just picking Murrayfield Stadium as an example. Something will get there tomorrow with the one-day Prime, otherwise I can pick my two preferred days, and if I pick Wednesday and Friday then it will arrive on Wednesday.

With any luck we will get the same when Baldonell opens up. It is all well and good that I can order something at 8pm this evening and it can be picked, packed, dispatched from say the Edinburgh Fulfillment Centre, sent across the sea, sorted in Greenogue, fired into the back of a van and delivered to me on Sunday but if I know I won't be there on Sunday then that defeats the purpose. It would be handy not having to wait to order something based on when I know I'll be at home.

Any word on when the Irish Fulfilment Centre is to open (Baldonell) please?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭deezell

Depending on your job, you could use their address and have stuff delivered there. My son had 4 car tyres delivered to his place of work, a University, which got some funny looks from the reception desk! Pre covid, I routinely had stuff for myself and my job delivered to the job address, city centre, and it was definitely faster too.

Bought a phone last September. Was £509 ex UK VAT. An extra £ 117 with Irish VAT which was added at the basket under import fees as expected. Just got a message from Amazon saying I'm getting a refund of £117. No idea why but not complaining!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,918 ✭✭✭✭Discodog

I returned an item & my Amazon account got refunded. I am now being told that I can't use my balance on Amazon Spain. The CS keep insisting that it's a gift card balance. Has anyone experienced similar ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,319 ✭✭✭NATLOR

If you used a gift card to purchase the item then they are correct

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,918 ✭✭✭✭Discodog

If you did not use an Amazon Gift Card or balance to pay something, then the refund should have gone to the payment method that you use to pay for the order in the first place (like your credit or debit card).

Balances / Gift cards can only be used on the country side you have them the, i.e. co.uk or .com etc but not across regions.

The question here is why you did get a refund to your balance and not back to your card!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,139 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

They usually give you the option as to whether you want it on a gift card (instant) or returned to the original payment method (takes a few days)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭deezell

Did you have a credit balance prior to paying? If so, why was that not refunded to your card, or do you not keep card details saved. I had Irish VAT refunded last year, it went back to my card, not to a 'balance' which I've never heard of before, except with ebay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,319 ✭✭✭NATLOR

The only balance you can hold on Amazon is with gift cards. As mentioned above any refunds are returned to the method used to purchase

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,918 ✭✭✭✭Discodog

I think Amazon need to make it clearer that, if you accept the refund as a credit to your account, it can only be used on the UK site. I will insist on a card credit from now on.

How long has it taken for returns going with An Post to get to the Sered address for anyone whos ordered from amazon.de? I sent returns over 2 weeks ago and amazon site is still not showing them as not having been received there

When is this Amazon fulfilment centre opening in Ireland, or is that shelved now (no bad pun intended)

Does anyone else have a package stuck in Taverny, lle-de-France FR? I have a package due to be delivered by today there since Saturday. Maybe the weather caused delays but I thought it would have departed by now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,120 ✭✭✭dam099

Not sure that post is correct, it quotes the linked article as saying Autumn for the new fulfilment centre but reading the piece which dates from Sep 2021 it notes the 2nd delivery centre as (presumably last) Autumn and the fulfilment centre as next Spring i.e. Spring 2022. Whether its still on track for that I have no idea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 154 ✭✭derekbro

    Yes, mine was due yesterday.

    Friday, 18 February

    12:06 PM

    Package departed an Amazon facility

    Taverny, lle-de-France FR

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,474 ✭✭✭VG31

I checked the tracking again, it departed Taverny 45 minutes ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 154 ✭✭derekbro

Mine was just delivered, took 5 days to get from France to Dublin.

I'd like to return a mobile phone to Amazon but An Post wouldn't take it because of the battery I think. The return address is for Dunfermline. The lady at the post office told me I'd have to try a private courier. Is this correct and if so is there a courier recommended?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,474 ✭✭✭VG31

UPS start from €11.99 and take 2-3 days. I've used them a few times to Dunfermline without issues.

Yeah I actually found someone saying to use UPS. I filled out all the information, paid with PayPal and it didn't complete the transaction. Some kind of internal security error.

Had another go at it and it seemed to work this time. Time will tell.

Same here. Any ideas as to where it went wrong?

All I remember is the first time I did it I didn't have an account and also there was a checkbox to confirm it had a battery. On my second go I created an account and never had the battery checkbox (don't know what I did differetly). Anyway they collected it Thursday and I have a delivery estimate of Wednesday. Fingers crossed!

Hello all, I am sure this has been covered already but with 55 pages on this thread alone my apologies in advance.

I am an infrequent Amazon user. I have a .co.uk account. I had voucher credit to use up on it since before Brexit ( I know ) and I used it today. Am I likely to be hit with import duty? I availed of a free 30 day offer for Prime prior to ordering.

I have looked into setting up a .de account and getting Prime through that going forward but I see they do not ship outside Germany & Austria. So, my question is what account are republic of Ireland people using and are they you getting hit with import duty?

    Many thanks in advance,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,139 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

Depends on the value of the goods and the seller. If sold by Amazon themselves the duty and VAT are included in the price paid. It gets messy with third party sellers

Does anyone knows when Amazon will start shipping food items to Ireland again? They have stopped since Brexit and I'm missing all the good food deals that Amazon has :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭deezell

Foodstuffs from non EU sources are subject to checks on entry, so a big casualty of brexit, and I don't see how they can operate it for individual packages, it's hassle enough for the bulk importers like Tesco, and it's what's getting up the noses of the unionists in NI, the thoughts of EU checks on UK to NI deliveries. They can probably still get personal food packets through in the post though.

Probably not till amazon Ireland warehouse set up and we have a warhouse here in Ireland with stock in it, which is hopefully this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭deezell

That model would work, though it would probably only suit groceries with reasonable shelf life. You can't have failed to notice the very English food supply company Wiltshire Farms, who deliver 'TV dinners' to your door. Their market seems to be pensioners judging by the ads.

OP, What kind of food were you bringing in? Luxury? Exotic? Fresh, frozen etc. I'm curious, it would never have crossed my mind to buy edibles from Amazon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,679 ✭✭✭notAMember

Not OP, but pre-brexit I used to buy chocolate pellets from Amazon for baking. And also real maple syrup. The maple-flavoured sugar water here isn’t the real thing.

I found a French non Amazon supplier for the chocolate. Doing without maple syrup.
