Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

From a salary perspective, how does an Executive Officer go from EO salary scale to Executive Officer Higher Scale salary?

Do your responsibilities have to change or is it based on length of service or to keep you in a team where you might want to move on etc? Just wondering as I am new to the Public Service?

  • Registered Users Posts: 164 ✭✭EO2019

A certain percentage of each grade get higher scale. It’s usually based on service. The date of start at grade that is currently in receipt of higher scale is published by the union every year. As far as I am aware it’s about Oct 2013 now for EO. So those starting as an EO after that date would be on regular scale. Most of those before that date would be higher scale.

Just to add that it isn't always down to service. Certain departments will make you fill out a full competency form to apply for higher scale. When I was an EO, I applied for higher scale a number of times. Never got it, despite having over 8 years service at the grade. Sometimes it can be worthwhile to concentrate on getting promoted instead, especially if your department will be making you go through an application process

    Email response today for Mayo....

"We have reached batch 2 OOM 6 for open stream and batch 2 OOM 3 for interdepartmental stream for Mayo to stage 3 interview."

Be great to find out how many are in batch 2

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 SkyBlue21

Does anyone know - is there a set number of OOMs per batch?

    Thanks. :)

Is there any movement on kerry?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 181 ✭✭Conqueror

Never. The size of any batch brought forward in any county will be based on the number of vacancies (actual and imminent) at the time. Let's say that, right now, there were 100 EO vacancies in Dublin and 2 in Leitrim. If you had a "fixed batch rule" where you had to call, say, 70 people in each batch, you'd still have vacancies to fill in Dublin that you could have filled from a bigger batch while, in Leitrim, you would have wasted the time of interviewers (and candidates!) interviewing dozens of people who, even if they pass, might never get near a job offer.

Do they tell you it’s AGS? I’ve just been asked to do additional vetting but they never said which department. I’m just trying to work out where they are considering me for.

If it’s enhanced vetting most likely AGS. I queried and was told it was.

Does anyone know much about the department of Justice? Is there remote working etc or any details about the Department. I have just been assigned and waiting to here more!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3 Kolten61

Does anyone know how long usually after Garda vetting comes back that you find out what department you are being considered? Garda vetting is still with the national vetting bureau but just looking for an idea of when I might know more about the department/start date/etc. Thanks in advance for your help.

That's the same batch and OOM they advised me that they had reached when I requested an update back at the beginning of November.

Hi everyone, does anyone have any updates on the Laois or Kildare panels?

How did everyone find the interview?

Is garda civilian shift work or is it office hours?

Office hours. Any shift work would be an allowanced position and advertised separately. Were you placed in Garda civilian?

  • Registered Users Posts: 112 ✭✭VitreousLife

My Garda vetting came back & I found out within a couple of days :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 112 ✭✭VitreousLife

I’ve been assigned Dept. Of Justice but waiting to hear where abouts..

Does anyone know how long from Dept. assignment it is to finding out your actual location?

    Thanks!

Just wondering in case a new comp comes up..... do you need a degree/qualification to apply for Eo to be successful.

  • Registered Users Posts: 133 ✭✭Cdub

If you get recruited into AGS through this process, are you still a normal part of the wider Public Service with the same conditions and opportunities to go for jobs in other depts such as agriculture, social welfare , defence etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,922 ✭✭✭SouthWesterly

I have it on my list for mobility and was debating whether to take it off hold or not. How sure are you on not doing shift work in the stations ?

They are currently on number 2322 OOM for the Dublin open stream and said they may run another testing session in a month or two.

Laois were requesting EOI for batch 3 I believe so must be ready to call

Hi all, apologies this is a bit off topic. Just been offered an EO position in Dublin from an internal panel (currently based in Kerry as a CO). I know it's very dependent on a person's personal circumstances, but wondering if anyone could give me an insight into living in Dublin on an EO salary, as it is a big move.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,922 ✭✭✭SouthWesterly

Dublin is expensive. Rented accommodation hard to get and expensive. I moved the opposite direction in both County and grade.

Stay In kerry. Its a better life.

Had an interview last week, anyone any idea when the results will be out?

  • Registered Users Posts: 48 LISAMC38

I had my interview on the 29th November and got my result on the 8th December.

Devils advocate here. But if you're seeing it as a stepping stone and need the position to get up the career ladder take it. 2 years in Dublin won't kill you financially. Consider anywhere in the hinterland of Dublin as a possible place to rent. It is expensive but if it's not forever why not? You'll get great experience and can serve as a means to an end. Moving back down to Kerry after you get what you need out of the position in Dublin.

It will be hard to live in Dublin on an EO salary at the lower end of the scale. But if you can supplement your income and/or have access to reasonably priced accommodation options you could make it work. As a pp mentioned it could be invaluable for career progression.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,922 ✭✭✭SouthWesterly

There are no guarantees of getting back to kerry.

I got eo while living in Dublin and had sold my house there to move down.i went back to my old grade on open competition to facilitate the move and applied for eo again down here.

I'm on mobility just to move in the county for the last 3 years.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2 lil0s1245

Thanks everyone. All very valid points, a lot to consider.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11 chatty

I contacted Pas today about information on the competition, and have been told they don't expect to place anyone after June 2022.

I am not hopeful of being placed after passing etray back in Sept and still awaiting interview.

For anyone looking for information on Laois/ Carlow.

So far, Carlow have called 14 for interview batch 1 and placed 4 people, and Laois have called upto 30 and placed 11.

Does anyone know what departments require additional vetting for extra security clearance? is it just for the Gards or would there be other departments that I could potentially be being considered?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,132 ✭✭✭tombliboo83

Garda and department of justice i.e. courts service. Most likely Garda though as they were given the nod for 400 extra staff this year. What county you offered?

  • Registered Users Posts: 48 LISAMC38

I've been assigned to AGS and have completed the first stage of enhanced vetting. Disclosure was viewed on 5th Jan and no update since then. I believe the next stage is submitting relatives details, can anyone who has been through this process clarify the information that is required? I have heard its names/addresses/DOB/Occupation of parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts and unckes - living and deceased. Is this true? I have no idea where I will find DOB for some of my deceased relations!!!

Are EOs paid fortnightly can anyone tell me?

Courts Service, I think anything to do with the DoJ.

  • Registered Users Posts: 52 ✭✭DarkJ

Information on relatives is not required. Just yourself and where you've lived etc...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,983 ✭✭✭mystic86

Is it expected that a new EO open competition will be launched in the next few months?

  • Registered Users Posts: 48 LISAMC38

Thank you. I've completed that but I heard the enhanced vetting is an additional level to include relatives.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3 Kolten61

Thanks for your insight. I was offered in Dublin. Any idea how long it takes for this extra clearance to come back usually?
