After Mm saying he is against it, but I'm sure he'll follow the recommendation

This suggested mandatory vaccination is imo a step way too far. We have over 90% of the adult population vaccinated and that's not enough for Tony and his yes men.

Is it just for covid or will nphet want mandatory vaccine for the flu?

We all know MM is too weak to stand up to nphet so this could be mandated. We might need a supreme court ruling to put manners on nphet.

    WTF.

    This cannot be allowed.

Why are they pushing this now?

They won't, it's just scaremongering journalism.

I nearly hope they try to bring it in. It would be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

The couple of days after the vaccine are horrific. Nasty side effects. I'd hope that any further boosters after the 3rd jab are optional. Whoever wants it can get it. If you dont want it then dont get it. Simple as that. You'd imagine with omicron being so mild that government could life all restrictions now. But they wont. Open pubs fully in January when they are still quiet after christmas makes sense to me. The pro restriction people can stay hidden under their beds if they want. These constant attacks on our liberties are not helping fight the spread.

No chance. The Irish have already shown that they will do what they are told, and will happily sit there while their liberties are stripped away one by one.

Especially with the high voluntary vaccination rate, so many people will think that this doesn't really affect them and so won't bother to raise an outcry. It only affects those dirty unvaccinated will be the narrative.

The fact that there is already huge government overreach in front of their very faces didn't stir the Irish, neither will this.

And yes I suspect it will happen, and thought so before any media reports today. And then all those who said it will never happen will pivot to explaining why it needed to happen, same as always.

Co-worker just told me that they got the booster over the weekend. I asked why they got it....

"I don't know, the queue was short I guess"

We're never getting out of this shite with attitudes like that 🙄

What are they expecting to achieve with 100% vaccinated? It won't defeat the virus, it won't prevent transmission, people that are vulnerable will keep being vulnerable, but hey, does that mean every single restriction that was imposed with this theatre, from mask to covid pass, will be lifted? My two cents....

Folks, any extreme measure you are seeing in the EU is coming our way.

Also remember, non-vaccinated means non boostered. If it becomes mandatory, it also includes not getting your Booster 1, Booster 2, Booster 10. It will remain until theres even a slight variant of Covid 19 around.

All those civil liberties and enshrined constitutional rights you thought you had were actually bullshit all along, dependent on the whims of an unelected bureaucrat. If you were hoping the politicians and president would step in - sorry 'bout that.

Holihan is on a crusade to rehabilitate his professional and personal reputation - the man who saved us from Covid.

If he has to burn the country to the ground to achieve his aims then by God he'll do it.

He's being enabled by a generation of the most cowardly and craven politicians the State has produced and cheered wildly by an electorate high off the 24/7 hysteria being pumped out by the State broadcaster and other media outlets.

They'll probably build a statue of him or elect him president at the end of this.

Meehole, Leo et al, can all sail off with gold-plated pensions and pick up work on the Euro gravy train after they had over power to the Shinners, -God help us all!

What a depressing shithole this country has turned into.

Discussion doesn't mean action and NPHET have discussed many things that never became actions. It sounds like something they would look at when we are out of this and a bit like an RFC. The only place we have seen potential mandatory shots suggested are in HCWs. Mandatory vaccinations may even increase hesitancy and it could easily end up dragged through the courts if it got Dail approval. TBH it's a bit dubious with current vaccines potentially needing boosting every 3-6 months.

As the variants get milder, the mandates get worse, this is insane..

What have you done to stop your liberties being stripped away one by one?

It's never been about why when you just want people to do it. Aren't you planning to get one to be able to travel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

They are discussing it for a reason. The motion was brought from within the Department of health. There is somebody there looking for it. If it is from the minister of health then somebody above mentioned is motioning for it.

It was in the minutes and there is nothing at all surprising about a government department gathering information even for things they never do. It has all the looks of a what-if, especially if it's bringing in the Constitution on the right to bodily integrity.

It's an information war, stuff like this being released is nearly always the beginning of the process of normalization. You're at this years, you've no right to be so naive at this stage.

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

TBH it's a bit dubious with current vaccines potentially needing boosting every 3-6 months.

This is where the argument for mandatory vaccination starts to fall apart. Then when you consider that omicron is essentially deploying a far more efficacious booster to the population at this very moment…

That being said I can see some measures in 2022 being attractive politically, FFG will no doubt pivot towards a “we kept you safe” message as an election appears on the horizon. Mandatory vaccination would be a signpost to bolster that narrative.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 226 ✭✭cannonballTaffyOjones

It makes zero sense for them to mandate a vaccine now, with a natural one tearing through the population...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 596 ✭✭✭deholleboom

I can see the logic in bringing in the legislation when infection is high and a compliant, vaccinated population not affected by it. Much harder to do when infection rates are low. And best to do this on EU level with a few first responders so small countries can point to the big ones.

They have eyes on the future and talk about these things at EU level, then see how they can implement controls in the best way. Can't trust the population to do the right thing you know. Better to do it now than in the summer with Omicron largely gone.If that sounds conspiratorial youd be right because it in a way is. Thats how the euro got implemented.

Well if you have ordered 1.8 billion of them you have to use them up somehow. It's not as if you can just stick them on ebay or something.

"if you get on the wrong train, get off at the nearest station, the longer it takes you to get off, the more expensive the return trip will be."

Not really. Not if you want to have access to most social settings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 620 ✭✭✭aidoh

Enforced vaccination is the only reward we'll get for the remarkable subservience we've demonstrated to the state over the past 2 years.

At least dogs get a treat or a pat on the head when they're obedient. Paddy gets another mandatory injection.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is an as-yet unofficial EU policy to be rolled out across all member states. Cant think of another reason considering we have upwards of 95% vaccinated.

The Brits have no mandatory vax or even covid passes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,270 ✭✭✭Quags

Ah come on now, don't be so naïve. This has being released to test the public reaction to it & as another poster said its being discussed for a reason. The Gov are not going to discuss something without some sort of push from somebody who wants this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,052 ✭✭✭✭titan18

Tbf, this is just the leaking phase of them doing it. We still have a bit to go but it'll probably happen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,328 ✭✭✭bloopy

How many vaccines has Ireland bought so far.
