    Why is S above A?

Japanese school system used a grading system similar to ours, but instead of something like A++ for really high percentages like 95%+ they used "S". That ended up being used a lot in manga/anime, which has basically become the defacto standard in the creation of a "Tiered" scoring system.

I swear TP-Link make unreliable network cards just to get you to splash out on a new router or powerline kit.

Every time I wake up my computer I have to open up Network Connections, disable and then re-enable my network card as it keeps giving me a "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding" error. I've tried ipconfig resets, netsh resets, and even going into Device Manager and un-installing then re-installing the card.

What happens when you shut it down and then start up instead of putting the PC to sleep?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,222 ✭✭✭✭PopePalpatine

The same thing happens. I've had this problem for at least a year.

Sounds like bogey drivers, have you tried seeing if TP-link have some older versions to download on their site? Maybe give a few different versions a shot and disable auto driver install

    TPM header is 60 yoyos'ish ?

So, can't upgrade my 5 year old I7 7700k, GTX1080 pc the way I would like due to " The Great Shortage " , so I spent some cash on a new M.2 and another Sata Drive as storage was becoming an issue .

While doing that this morning I noticed that my Mobo has a TPM header ? if thats the right word , so I could buy the module ? , again if thats the right word ? .

So I looked them up on Amazon and they are around the 60 euros mark ? .

The switch to Windows 11 can't be worth that surely ?

There's currently no reason to upgrade to windows 11.

Your processor probably has a built in tpm you can enable in the BIOS.

I'm feeling the need for an upgrade. My 3600/5600xt are not cutting it at 1440p/165hz without turning all the setting way down low. I'm thinking of starting with a GFX card, probably looking at a 6800XT. Is the only reliable way to get GFX cards to go pre-built without spending insane money over MSRP?

If I was you I'd see what the second hand market is like for the 5600xt. They're probably in demand by miners. You could get in excess of 600 euro, check out adverts.ie for a rough guide.

What's your motherboard ? Seeing that you currently have a Ryzen 3600 if AMD SAM is supported on your m/b (it'll have to be at least a B450 chipset) you could find that an rx6700xt with AMD smart access memory enable might be good enough for your needs , but that depends on the games you play.

The RX6700XT can be bought from various retailers for between 850-950 euro. These prices are way off what AMD direct is but when offset from the sale of the 5600xt you could find overall costs acceptable and cheaper than a new build.

I've lost count how many times at this point I've bought the LOGITECH G915 LIGHTSPEED keyboard and each time I get cold feet and cancel it

It's hard to justify spending 200 euro on a wireless keyboard but damn Id love to have it all the same

So my 4Tb media HDD has corrupted.

    I thought I wouldn't mind.

But now I realise that was my entire music collection - including CDs I can't rip anymore; as well as 2 decades of anime.

After a 2nd restart, Windows fixed itself.

    ...

    I need backup drives.

Might be time to look into a simple NAS, with either mirrored or striped RAID. Aside from data protection, it'll separate your stored data from your PC, and avoid any issues like ransomware or mistakes during OS install that could wipe it out.

    Yeah, it happened AGAIN.

I'm wondering if it's Windows, partial torrent files, or SATA drivers causing issues.

Either way, wasn't enough time to get a backup sorted :(

Another Xbox One controller RB button fucked again

This is my third controller in 2 years and it's typically always the RB or LB causing issues, they are rubbish compared to the old 360 controllers the worse thing is I dont use it all that much compared to the keyboard and mouse

All of a sudden, data on one of the 10TB drives I have that form my 80TB array in my server started showing errors upon the weekly check or "scrub" of the data I have scheduled.

Seems it was a loose SATA connection, 2 weeks after just re-seating the SATA connections, no such errors are present again. 1st time I've ever had this happen to me, odd since the server itself never gets moved.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,308 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

Any mice in the house. One could have walked on the connection.

Odd if it moved itself somehow. Have you kids or a visitor recently, either could have been looking at it and moved the connection by mistake.

Is there a decent second hand market for high spec gaming monitors? I have an Acer Predator X27p I no longer need, cost a pretty penny new and wondering if it will take long to shift it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,308 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

Right. He needs a set of those SATA cables with the clips so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,095 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

Probably not; you're going to lose a few hundred on it since most people don't appreciate good monitors.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 693 ✭✭✭MidlanderMan

there's a definite sign that second hand GPU prices are falling the last 7-10 days, coinciding with a massive selloff of ETH.

Hopefully this continues and the miner bros have massive selloff akin to a few years ago and lose their arses.

If you've been holding off, don't panic, keep waiting, the bubble is bursting.

Regardless of other factors, there is a global supply shortage due to a significant period of no production in China in 2020 and the MSRP's from late 2019 are not realistic anymore.
