Day 5 isolating here. Have failed an antigen every day since Tuesday evening.

I’ll be up in the box room for Christmas and tbh it’s ruined it really for everyone.

symtoms are very mild since temperature dropped back to normal. Failing the antigen emphatically. No doubt at all that it’ll show up after a few seconds. Seemed to take longer on Tuesday.

Do they send out results past 9?

Did your symptoms only start Wednesday so. I’d say it’s very likely to be positive in that case.

Just got text. Negative result. Not that it makes much difference with partner being positive regards restricting movements.

Antigen tested positive Wednesday and Yesterday. Went for pcr yesterday 8.20am, awaiting results still but almost certain will be positive.

Self-isolating, it's horrible but a small bit of comfort that alot of others in similar situation.

Why are you thinking of going for Christmas dinner with symptoms and positive antigen tests?

Pretty sure the HSE says, even if you get a negative PCR test, you should continue to isolate until 48 hours after symptoms go away.

For anyone still waiting for a result, I did a test at 4.40 in Rocdoc, HSE centre in Cork and just got the result. Negative thankfully after 2 days in isolation. 3 members of my family down with covid so Christmas cancelled.

Happy Christmas everyone. We'll have to make the most of it.

Sorry, should have said 4.40 yesterday. Can't find the edit button on this new platform?

Was tested today around 3.30pm but am not expecting a result until the day after tomorrow going off how busy they are and timelines here. Better to not be looking at the phone all day tomorrow though, as it took around 24 hours for all my previous (negative) results texts.

Symptoms are not as bad as they were during the week, thankfully, but still have some sort of a dose.

Started Tuesday with a sore throat. Was very very ill on Wednesday; constant shivering and sweating, (no temperature at any stage, if anything a bit low), breathing laboured at times, bad cough, very sore throat, sinuses blocked, fatigued, unable to eat and aches and pains. Also felt very nauseated in general all week

I'm lucky in that nothing has changed for me christmas-wise, I live alone and had nothing planned, so business as usual except for having to have shopping delivered if i can during next week if still symptomatic regardless of results.

I really feel for anyone having to stay in their room, change plans last minute, or miss out on seeing loved ones.

I'm really hoping for Omicron to be the wave/mutation that weakens and 'normalises' the whole lark. Here's hoping.

Depends what day you were trying to book the HSE self referral PCR test portal, I spent 3 hours trying so did my close contact, error message kept coming up on the screen when I tried to select an appointment slot.

So we both had to go private, we have both since tested positive results back with 24 hours. HSE PCR self referral site was under pressure last Wednesday am all day due to the sheer volume of traffic. Im self isolating now, mild symptoms

Some good news, test at 1 yesterday, negative result via text from the hse at 12:38. Seems they are testing away and trying to make Christmas for people.

Day 5/6 for me and my body feels completely fine, but my sinuses are clogged up, they are beginning to empty today though, so my nose is passing all sorts...

Got official confirmation this morning. Been isolating since Thursday as knew it was coming. Sadly, didn't get to see kids today. Was only due to see them for 2 hours but sad I missed it.

That said, I took a bit of a risk last week (within guidelines but was still a risk) so I can't really complain or feel sorry for myself. Feel rotten that I've made their Christmas less happy.

Up at midnight for the second night running to try and get PCRs.Loads of appointments became available, but the texts with the validation codes never arrived.I got one test for the one child who has tested positive on antigen. The rest of us I have now booked for a private test tomorrow, although they are few and far between too.Pretty annoyed about it all, but I am not spending a third night trying to book tests at a silly hour.

Next When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

And the road you're trudging seems all uphill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,

As every one of us sometimes learns.

And many a failure turns about

When he might have won had he stuck it out.

Don't give up though the pace seems slow,

You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than it seems

To a faint and faltering man.

Often the struggler has given up when he

Might have captured the victor's cup,

And he learned too late when the night slipped down,

How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out,

The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,

And you never can tell how close you are.

It may be near when it seems afar.

So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit.

It's when things seem worst that

    You musn’t quit.

Did anyone have a tightness in upper chest as a first symptom ? Any tips to ease it ?

I did a positive antigen test yesterday evening and was trying to book a pcr test too at midnight. I managed to get one in Ardee, the text was taking ages to come through. If you select for the code to be emailed to you instead it comes through immediately

Tested positive this morning (antigen) after about 4 days of symptoms. Was out last Friday (8 days ago) which is all I can trace to (1 other tested positive of the group but much sooner than me). Seems delayed but works with symptoms, just not test (was antigen testing every day since then for the week that's in it). Does this mean my isolation ends in 6 days (presuming no more symptoms and negative test)?

    To me, yes it would.

Had symptoms last week (bit of a sore throat) so had been doing antigens which were all negative. Did a PCR test on Monday 20th Dec which came back negative on Weds 22 Dec. Went about my business, met a few people but not that many. Got my booster on 23rd Dec and continued to do antigens as I was coming home to my parents for Xmas. Did antigens on Christmas eve and Christmas day as I had a bit of a headcold and was just trying to be cautious. Did another antigen this morning and it's positive. Did a second brand and it's also positive. So annoyed. Can't get a pcr test anywhere but assuming I have it anyway with two positive antigens. Its so strange that I had a pcr test last week...obviously picked it up between then and now. No idea how long I have it for or of I'm over the worst or what. Was with 2 friends on Xmas eve who are still fine and was with my parents and brother yesterday who all tested negative. What a head ****. Bo idea when my 10 days started from etc if I cant get a pcr as iv had some sort of symptoms for about 2 weeks now in total. I'm guessing I'm at the most contagious phase now given that the antigens picked it up today all of a sudden. Feeling v sorry for myself locked in my childhood bedroom .

That’s rubbish. You might have had another cold with symptoms before this giving symptoms? Incubation period of omicron is very short. Also you didn’t drink orange juice before taking them did you?

I'm nearly afraid to do antigen tests at moment. There Was much more mixing in last few days than I’d planned on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 675 ✭✭✭dashdoll

Didn't drink OJ at all, just had a coffee. I think it's safe to say I have it when both antigens were positive this morning. I just find it strange it was negative yesterday and all week. I must have just had a regular cold when I got the PCR last week. Wonder am I at peak level of being contagious now. Pain in the ass not to be able to get a PCR

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,204 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

I was told that you are peak contagious before the antigen, but I really have no clue. If you have what I have, you will not feel too bad and be over it very soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,466 ✭✭✭wolfyboy555

I've been isolating all week with partner. She had symptoms from Monday....sore throat and cough and blocked nose. She tested positive on antigen while I was negative. We both went for PCR Thursday and on Friday she got positive result and I got a negative. I have done antigen tests everyday and have been negative until all of a sudden it is positive today. I have no symptoms and she is pretty much over her bout. I guess I will have to try and get another PCR in the next few days. Was hoping to be out of isolation for new years.

How long does it take to become contagious with this variant ?

Mother in law is waiting to do pcr tomorrow. We were in her house Xmas eve for an hour. that's the only place we've been but she had been at a family gathering earlier on in the week. She has covid symptoms now and apparently other family members that were at the gathering have tested positive too

I'd only done a pcr on Wed because we didn't want to be bring covid down to them.

Would we be considered close contacts if she is positive? So far all antigen tests have been negative .
