We do not vaccinate children to protect adults. That is an outright lie.

We vaccinate children against diseases we know have an effect on them to level where the tiny risk of injury from the vaccine is outweighed by the risk of the disease.

Given the minute risk to children and the waning protection from infection of these "vaccines" it is disgusting that you are willing to use them like this.

These injections come with a risk, and given the threat to the elderly and the vulnerable that was a risk potentially worth taking.

But for children it is not. And the advice from the JVCI in the UK said there was no justification for doing so.

To be fair - while I agree with your sentiment - it's not a surprising reaction from some.

The media, NPHET and Government have spent the last 18 months telling the country that there's a deadly virus out there that we should all be afraid of, treat each other (and ourselves) like plague carriers, and need to take ever more drastic measures to protect ourselves from with new variants around every corner.

Because the RTE narrative in particular has been designed to reinforce this at every opportunity, it's no wonder that some will be genuinely afraid as a result. Add that to the typically Irish resentful attitude towards anyone/anything "different" or off-message, coupled with the instinctive need of many to show how compliant they are, and you get the above.

Meanwhile, in the reality of those last 18 months, the virus (thankfully!) continues to be low risk to the vast majority of people, even if they do realise they have/had it - but because of the above factors, weak leadership and as a result a "sunk cost" fallacy where they have to now justify the billions spent/livelihoods destroyed, we end up with posts like the one you quoted and people defending it.

No, we have to offer up our children as sacrificial lambs or the covid gods will be angry and punish us with more cases. This type of thinking is acceptable now.

We vaccinate to protect everyone, the old, immune compromised, people susceptible to a disease.

The risk of giving a vaccine to children is lower than the risk that child has if they contract SARS-COV2. The risk/benefit of SARS-COV2 vaccines is greater than other childhood vaccines (table was posted to this forum a few weeks ago). If you get beyond a dislike of vaccines in general, there's no reason why you wouldn't vaccinate (as an example, Marty Bird on this forum went out of their way to get MenB vaccines for their children, this is a vaccine with a lower benefit ratio then the SARS-COV2 vaccines but the disease itself has high severity for some people just a very low chance of ever contracting it).

NPHET has recommended no indoor gatherings for the next few weeks. That covers playdates, pantos, birthday parties and anything else. https://www.rte.ie/news/analysis-and-comment/2021/1129/1263863-children-covid/

While this is absolutely correct…. Being cold can affect your body’s ability to fight a virus or infection and viruses that cause colds may spread more easily in lower temperatures. This is one of the reasons why cold and flu season happens at the coldest time of year!

I can tell you where they can stick all of that.

And I am not the only one thinking that way.

They cannot have it all ways.It can't be send them to school, isolate at any symptom, don't use antigen test,do use antigen tests if we tell you, must use PCRs, no PCRs available?Ah well sit and refresh your computer repeatedly and you might get something (I mean seriously, what kind of advice is that), keep them in school, don't let them have playdates or nativities, or birthday parties and we should stick masks on some kids.

But it's not kids with covid clogging up the hospitals and ICUs.

We are in a farce here.Holohan seems to have actually just lost the plot and Donnelly....no words.

You realise all this stuff isn't new news ? What you've linked is an opinion piece discussing last week's recommendations.

It was all in last weeks recommendations around reducing socialising for primary school age group.

Yeah its gone beyond a joke now and time for the government to step up but that's not happening

Imagine still believing Vaccines prevent widespread transmission. Insanity.

Let us use personal responsibility and let us **** live with this virus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,800 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Personal responsibility has never worked for us in the past, what makes you think it can work now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,637 ✭✭✭ceadaoin.

Vaccines and restrictions also haven't worked in the past. What makes you think they will work now?

Nobody ever said it prevented it, it reduces it alright, but not prevent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,681 ✭✭✭Penfailed

So you'd rather the government stepped down rather than stepped up?

What makes you say vaccines and restrictions don't work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 725 ✭✭✭M_Murphy57

"Since the advice leaked last Thursday, the pantomime sector has been haemorrhaging bookings. Of course, performances may be staged but the recommendation is that no children are in the audience."

How can theatres "haemorrhage bookings"? Most people booked their tickets months ago and theatre tickets generally are non refundable.

Put the pantos on but fill the theatres with creepy childless adults? Don't see that happening. Have rte cameras outside the gaiety shaming people going in? (Extremely possible actually)

Now obviously MM & SD are two of most incompetent politicians we've ever had in power. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them rushing through a legal framework trying to ban Santa and somehow make pantos illegal without banning the rest of theatre - but given we are clearly desperately out of cash I can't see either happening.

And any person who cancels a Santa/panto visit over a nonsense nphet "recommendation" needs to give their head a wobble.

Can I ask what your plan would be to keep enough teachers in the schools to keep them open, and to prevent the hospitals from being completely overrun with Covid patients, displacing all elective hospital treatments?

We already vaccinate children for all sorts of things with no apparent issues (the autism one seems to have been debunked). We've already vaccinated 90% of the rest of the population without apparent ill effects, apart from very small numbers (blood clots in 20 per million, etc). Do you not think it's worth considering vaccinating kids if it reduces transmission in the community? Or do you think the vaccines don't work?

Have the panto in a school hall, loophole 👍

As the other poster asked, what makes you think the vaccines and restrictions don't work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,148 ✭✭✭✭JRant

It's fairly obvious what they'll do. They will say it's advice only but knowing full well most places will panic in case they aren't covered by their insurance if anything happens while they are open but not following public health advice. That way places will cancel events and there'll be no government support for them as it's only "advice".

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Is this actually real life? Kids being well and truly thrown under the bus this week.

It's only advice. Parents won't listen to that shíte. Even if it was more than advice it's unenforceable.
