Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is this the end of Eoin Morgan then?

I wonder will sky award England the moral victory trophy, all the cliches out in force yet again, plucky little New Zealand upset mighty England, they are a world class team and are always overlooked, England were looking forward to the final on Sunday, took their eye off the ball, probably the best team in the tournament but second best today at the death, threw it away a bit, but had no answer to the black caps acceleration

Both captains wanted to bowl first at the toss but really it was England's lack of death bowlers that cost them. Jofra Archer the biggest by far and also Mills. Jordan is so hit and miss, seen it loads of times in the IPL. Like Woakes he's a powerplay and middle overs bowler. It's the only hole in the team really. Livingston is a great find, be interesting to see where he bats at the next world cup.

Pleased for NZ. Needed a few heroes when Guptill and Kane fell early.

Good game today in a tournament that has been lacking them.

Pakistan going very well, Australia could be chasing 170+. Not sure their batting line up have that in them...if Australia bat well, we could have an exciting chase on.

177 needed, could have been a lot more if not for Zamba and a special 19th over by Cummins. Australia needed to catch those early chances.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,546 ✭✭✭MFPM

Tight game, Australia marginally ahead. Mixed bag from Pakistan bowlers so far.

Warner's return to form in this tournament is long overdue, playing a good innings so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Can't believe that. Warner given out, replays show him not hitting it and he didn't review it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,546 ✭✭✭MFPM

You have to hand it to the Aussies, this is some chase! Two teams in the final who virtually no one have a chance to...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,158 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Well, that makes it an easy decision who to root for in the final anyway.

What a finish by Matthew Wade. That was brilliant.

Pakistan paid the price for their conservative, old fashioned wickets in hand approach. Good powerplay today and then did nothing until the death. Then the 19th over went for nothing. 200 was on if they went earlier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

I thought given the wickets in hand Pakistan would have gotten 190/200

good job though by Australia to get to 177 with a whole over to spare. scored 9.31 an over.

not too sorry to see Pakistan fade off home... before getting to the final.

should be a great final.. looking forward to it.

Devon Conway is going to miss the final after he broke his hand when he punched his bat after getting out. Such a stupid reason to miss a world cup final. It's a big blow for NZ.

New Zealand blocking furiously, unbelievable approach

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,546 ✭✭✭MFPM

After a good start by NZ, the Australian bowlers have been on top. Two successive boundaries by Williamson off Marsh though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

New Zealand rolling in the last few overs, but it’s all Williamson, need a strong finish, 57 in the first 10 not enough, could have got to 70 with very little added risk, that will come against them at the finish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

2 balls left to be bowled in the innings and the 12th man for Australia onto the field with replacement shoes, wtf are the umpires up to allowing that crap... nothing more then tactical momentum stopping by the Aussies. At that type carry on for decades... if the bower was barefoot I’d be telling him to get on with it.

ive never been up for an Aussie team since I’ve been watching cricket, shît like that is why.

Great acceleration in the second ten overs. Same kind of score as England and Pakistan which were well short. New Zealand need to avoid a Mitch Starc 0-60 spell to have a chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

I always get a laugh listening to Nasser Hussien telling batsmen to get on with it, he spent 15 years blocking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,546 ✭✭✭MFPM

Hard to call this, good total by NZ and excellent innings by KW...have a feeling the Aussies by just get it, Warner probably needs a big innings.

Finch gone early just like the semi-final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

Finch out early, not too surprised, him and Jason Roy are hugely overrated cricketers, Roy is completely ungainly and Finch is not too stylish either, he is a hit or miss player, a string of low scores and then produces a big innings to secure his spot in the team

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

17 from the Sodhi over... not good bowling met with great batting, some shot by Warner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

What’s hurting NZ here is the 2 out of 6 balls which they are bowling which are absolute gimmies to be smashed for 4 or 6... 2 per over. A few mistakes in the field too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,546 ✭✭✭MFPM

Looks all over for NZ unless a dramatic change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Much needed wicket and the over not expensive, 3 runs..

Sodhi back bowls a wide and then smashed for a 6....

hes useless, bowled 3 overs of full tosses, half trackers, wides...gone for 15 in that 9 ball over. If NZ lose that will be reflected on... hopeless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

He comes Milne to donate more runs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,546 ✭✭✭MFPM

8 an over needed. Australia at a canter....the toss once move proving crucial on this ground.

How many teams batting first have won this tournament? Appreciate the toss is always important but jebus.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

In late games in Dubai (3pm then 2pm Irish start with the clock change) the toss has decided 100% of games I believe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,794 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

I think Sodhi going for 40 runs off 3 overs as the second change bowler really put the final nail in the NZ coffin.

Tim Southee a reliable, economical go to guy was smashed too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,546 ✭✭✭MFPM

Fair play to the Aussies, no one really gave them a chance coming into the tournament and some of their performances vindicated that no least the England match but they produce two excellent performances to end up as champions.

NZ bowling really let them down that and their relatively slow first 10 overs.

On to the Ashes now...Aussies massive favourites on home soil.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,145 ✭✭✭Xander10

11 out of 11 winners of the toss on that pitch won the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,064 ✭✭✭✭Tom Mann Centuria

Yeah, timing of games good for TV, awful for an even contest.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

T20 looks so much better at night as well. Middling scores batting first forget it. IPL final was won with 190 at these same grounds so it can be done. Australia should be fairer in that regard this time next year.

Pity NZ lost another big final.
