Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Roasted in a hot oven with some lardons and plenty of salt for 20 minutes. :)

I haven’t tried them but you can get frozen sprouts all year round.

I've tried roasting them a few times, probably my technique but always a bit disappointed, bits are crispy but never what I hoped for.

I need one teaspoon of fresh lemon juice daily for my diet,
Freezing is out of the question as is squeezing daily, how do people here manage to keep squeezed lemon juice fresh in the fridge?

*Not a fan of the heating the juice before storing, as I believe this wrecks the vit c in it.

Buy two lemons a week. Every four days cut one of them into quarters. Squeeze a quarter daily for your fresh juice and wrap the rest in cling film in the fridge until you need them.

After you've opened a mik bottle, it weeps from the cap if you store it on its side. I tried using cling film between the cap and the bottle, but it didn't work.

Came across this video (only 1m11s) where he removes the seal carefully so it stays intact, then pushes it into the cap. It works

    Yeah, brilliant Tangy!

I'm going to try this, as my fridge door shelf broke and milk is leaking.

Yeah, have to agree. Hoping Boards HQ have it all under control but I'm really feeling for them right now. Huge amount of work involved to put it right and there's only one programmer I believe. Desktop version much better than the mobile version.

    Good luck HQ! 🤞

I'm here, hoping they get it all straightened out soon - for their sakes as much as ours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,453 ✭✭✭Shenshen

I'm using it on my browser, I honestly can't say I'm convinced, sorry.

Fingers crossed this will be better soon.

I am hoping the current set-up is a temporary measure. I imagine they must have been under serious pressure to get back up and running and it wouldn't surprise me if this is a stop-gap of some kind... Maybe I'm just being optimistic though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 227 ✭✭tangy

People never like the new version :)

However, the link to FirstUnread has gone.

The ability to show 40 posts per page has gone.

I don't like the skinny font.

I woud like the option of using the old old skin. No chance :)

We'll get used to it <sigh>.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 227 ✭✭tangy

And it appears you can't edit you comment:

    is what I see.

Edit :) I've now noticed the three dots in the RH corner of the bar above your post.

I've figured out, on mobile anyway...

That you have to touch the thread you want in a particular location to be taken to the first unread.

And also you can edit a post with the cog icon.

(But I haven't been on desktop yet, dunno if its different)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 227 ✭✭tangy

This should be a reply to sammyjo90, but it seems threading has gone.

I'm posting from a lapdog (very old reference), and I see no cogs :)

I can see 1 like on the post, but not who its from.

I'm sure they'll fix most of the stuff eventually

However, the link to FirstUnread has gone.

After your first visit to a thread, clicking on the thread title on the Forum page takes you to the first unread post.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 227 ✭✭tangy

    Queston:

Does this need to be a sticky? Started in 2008, one comment in 2014.

    New software, new stickies 🙂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,625 ✭✭✭Gloomtastic!

If you’re on a mobile, this link takes you to all your Followed Threads. They’re now called Bookmarks apparently.

There’s no workaround getting to your last viewed post yet so you’re going to have to start at the beginning, click on the last page and work your way back. Next time you visit the thread it will remember where you left it.

    Getting there……

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 227 ✭✭tangy

In fact, the links in that post give the "Leaving Boards" message, though of course you're not.

    How's that for a start? 🙄 😂

First comment on a thread since the update. I HATE CHANGE!!!! 😔 😁 My company has also updated a load of software! 😪 Just shows how programmed we get to routine. I like knowing where stuff is. Hopefully I'll get used to it all soon enough.

It's like when they move shelves in supermarkets. 😕

Half the problem is that stuff we had before hasnt come back. There is no most thanked posts function, search doesnt work and thousands of old threads havent been migrated over. Mobile users in particular are finding it unusable and they are the majority of users, hence why the site is so quiet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,153 ✭✭✭✭the beer revolu

    Yeah. Feels very quiet.

I'm using boards a lot less, too.

I'm really missing the "my forumd" tab - bookmarks is not the same at all.

I haven't been in After Hours once since the revamp. I'd say traffic is very much down, all round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 850 ✭✭✭tickingclock

Same as, finding it very hard to find my threads. Didn't post a lot but was on boards on mobile site numerous times daily. Hopefully it gets easier.

Anyone any recommendations for good books with quick pasta recipes? I'm talking about the sort of stuff you can make in 10 mins for lunch with 3/4/5 ingredients max.

Things like spag alio e olio etc.

    Preferably authentic italian stuff!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,625 ✭✭✭Gloomtastic!

The Silver Spoon is great recipe book for all things Italian. I picked one up for a euro at a jumble sale a few years ago.

I just ordered "Silver Spoon Classic" from Amazon which seems to be the cut down version that also has metric measurements. Will let you know what it's like!

I purchased a little tub of shrimp paste recently. I have never cooked with it before.

Any ideas on how to use it?

I'm a bit put off by the lengthy recipes available online, so I was thinking of making some fried rice. I also have some catsup manis too, which I think might go well with it. Any simple ideas for someone like me who is not much used to cooking South East Asian food?

  • Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 28,820 Mod ✭✭✭✭oscarBravo

As soon as I hear shrimp paste I think Nasi Goreng, which literally means fried rice, so I guess I'd agree with your instincts!

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 11,647 Mod ✭✭✭✭igCorcaigh

I have just now learned a valuable cooking lesson... NEVER put dried chilli flakes into really hot oil. I can barely breathe from the burnt fumes :(

Decided to try Harvest Day veg delivery. This was the veg haul for this week from the two week tester of Harvest Day. €40 got us this. (Not including the sauces, that's from Mic's Chilli).

Tried to price it as accurately as I could off SuperValu online shopping, and it came to approx €26 there. So it's a fair bit over the odds, though I will say the veg is of a noticably better quality than the supermarket stuff. Whether or not it's worth it for the extra, I don't know.

Leek, tomatoes, spinach, potatoes, peppers, kale, rainbow beets, yellow courgette, carrots, red onions (massive yokes), broccoli and cauliflower.

What I can say is it's interesting and fun (if you're into that kind of thing) planning a meal plan around the various veg you get, plus it's a decent way to shop local (or at least Irish veg as far as I can tell). They do send out a mail (as well as recipe cards in the boxes) as well, which was a nice touch. There may be other veg delivery boxes out there that are worth it.

Going to see if any of the local fruit and veg shops do delivery and maybe see there.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 11,647 Mod ✭✭✭✭igCorcaigh

Oh that looks great Dave, well done. Proper locally sourced veg should last longer than the supermarket stuff too. What I do search out for particularly on that front is parsley and garlic. The good stuff is so much better than the regular. I buy via Neighbourfood, as their pick up point is just around the corner from where I live. Nice little stash of Mic's there I see :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,176 ✭✭✭✭sammyjo90

I'd love to do something like that, i know of one place in kinsale that does that down here but my palate is very small when it comes to vegetables, gotten a lot better but still no way I'd be able to justify it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,415 ✭✭✭Dave_The_Sheep

Ah yeah, the partner loves hot sauces (more than I do, if I'm honest, though I'm getting there) so I pick up a batch every now and then for her.

I've not used Neighbourfood, looking into it now, will have to check it out next online market opening time. Cheers.
