Replaced the seals on the rear caliper today, and cleaned up the piston too.

Bike brakes very well indeed now.

    Happy with the results.

I'm sure you're well aware but if its leaking again it could be because of pitting on the stanchion.

Replaced the front wheel bearings and seals on the V looked liked they might have been the original after 80.000Km

Took about 1.5 hrs in total to remove the wheel and bearings

There used to be a bit of a whine or drone at about 100KPH seems to be gone now :-)

Hardest part was trying to get the front axel to thread back in seemed to take forever

Waiting on the Rear bearings to arrive in the post and that will be the next job Have a new rear Disc and pads and will change them when doing the rear bearings as the Existing disc is very worn

Got a set of Rizoma grips for the xdiavel, I was just going to put them on but there are two security screws on the throttle housing. Looks like I need a triangular head screwdriver to take it off and fit the new grip on the throttle side, Amazon sell them but I don't want to wait! Anyone know where I can pick one up in or around Cork City?

Edit: I see halfords sell them.

Picked up a set of anti tamper bits and got to work, for some reason Ducati left a huge gap at the end of the left side of the handlebar. This is one of those little things that drives me nuts.

    before left.jpg

Fortunately Rizoma include a spacer to cover the gap, a pity it's only plastic and not metal though.

    after left.jpg after right.jpg

Next on the shopping list are new levers. Rizoma of course, have to match everything!

Looks good, I attempted! to do my first front brake pad change this weekend.

Had the haynes manual and youtube at the ready so I had good idea of what to do, the original pads were rusted stuck into the caliper so I had to wedge them out.

Covered the caliper in cleaner and got it looking reasonably clean

Had an issue with the pistons that they wouldn't go back in, I eventually had to pop the cover off the master cylinder to relieve some of the pressure as it was full to the top

Finally got the pistons back in, put in the pads put it all back together and screwed the caliper back onto the wheel,

Got out the torque wrench to start tightening the bolts and one of them snapped off, I was sure I had it set to the correct torque 30nm,

Had to take the wheel off to get the caliper back off again and strip it down to separate the caliper from the mounting bracket.

So todays job is to try and get the caliper bolt back out of the frame and try to find replacement bolts online! I'm hoping they were just worn out from being in there so long.

Hopefully the other side shouldn't be as difficult.......😀

When I got the V both of the chain alignment bolts sheered off like they were made of Butter

Had to Drill and Tap 2 new holes :-)

Hopefully the other bolts will cooperate for you :-)

Very brown and dark. Notice any difference when changed?

    Howdy

Fluid is a clear as day now ran the whole bottle through is and bled both calipers

Yeah the brake lever definitely does not travel as much so may have been some water / air in there allowing it to compress that bit more

It got rid of the spongy feeling when you put the brakes on

I was / am trying to get to the bottom of a pulsing kind of feeling when I put on the brakes only really noticeable when slowed right down almost stopped

Cleaned the bobbins replaced the front wheel bearings and now the brake fluid and it is still there

If I put the bike on the head stand and rotate the wheel I don't see any movement but looking like maybe one or both the front discs is Warped or something

New rear shock and rear wheel installed on my Fat Bob. Went with an RWD shock, the stock one from HD is like a plank of wood or sponge depending on the setting.

I have a 19" front and new set of springs for the front as well. Looking forward to getting it out with the new set up, the new rubber should be fun.

I also got a stage 2 a while back, 30% more power across the board with a cam change, great value!

Changed the Rear wheel bearings brake disc and pads

A real battle with the bearing in the sprocket carrier the Circlip was rusted in place

    Rotor.jpg Bearing.jpg Circlip.jpg

Hard to believe there is a circlip under that gunge

So is there a reason someone would have taped up a gear indicator fully in electrical tape and shoved it in under the tank.

There was a looped cable poking out from under the tank with some electrical tape on it that I assumed was a half ass repair of a wire that one of the previous owners then shoved back in under the tank. I took the tank off today to do other stuff and while having a rest I had a look at it and it was a single wire that just ended in a blob of electrical tape rather than a wire running anywhere, and I took it off to see what was going on and it's a fully working and wired up GIpro gear indicator.

So I'm 100% sure the lad who sold it to me didn't know that was there, and the bikes had more than a few owners.

Only thing I'm worried about is the first sign of rain and it shorting. I might do up a little container to put it in.

Some of you may recall I blew the fork seal on my SV1000 last year.

Well today I finally got it back together and took it for a little spin!

I'll post up some pics later.

I didn't really do anything to mine, but I did ride it 1060kms home from the shop I got it from on Saturday. And I'm still learning all the menu's/buttons on it.....

I'll do a proper write-up on it when I get a minute: might be useful to those of you looking further afield than the UK, now that that market has committed hari-kiri on us....

Actually it's the other way round.... Stockers last - its when people try to "improve" them that they go pear shaped.

I took all the Screaming Eagle nonsense off mine and put it back to stock. 57k kms later and still running like a train.

Only ever replaced consumables and basic servicing. Will give it a good going over this winter though, as just got a new bike so I won't need it every day.

    Screaming Eagle is Harley though.

I don't have much mechanical stuff on my bike that isn't HD, only the exhaust, my stage 2 is from HD and an approved part.

the quality of the chrome on the Screamin' Eagle was nowhere near that of OE though. OE chrome holds up well, but a lot of after market stuff is poor. Made for sunnier climes I think !

Ah, chrome! That is one area they do lack, I will agree.

Finally got around to fitting Oxford Heated Grips on the CBR over the weekend so hopefully that will help on the frosty mornings!

Also fitted replacement lower fairings I had bought from Thailand, Genuine OEM fairing pieces for €30!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 39,896 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

Was amazed how much hotter the Oxford grips are than the OEM Triumph grips on my previous bike. I usually turn them down to less than halfway within five minutes even when it's pretty cold out.
