Sweden's approach seems to have turned out to be a credible alternative to lockdowns I would say.

You may want to be careful that you don't get to entrenched in your views based on the echo chamber of people you talk to, and maybe look at what's happening in Ireland and around the world and where we might be heading. One day you may wake up to a restriction that you don't agree with, but by then its too late. Plenty of people have been caught on the wrong side of history.

I'd guess he meant changed for the better relative to 6 months ago. Of course its not better than 2019, but the way we lived in 2019 isn't coming back all the way.

I would not call the Dublin protest large, and much like here, the cross over between what people were protesting was so diverse it looked more a "comeallya" that a protest about anything in particular.

I don`t know about you, but from my own experience people may not be overly happy having to produce vaccines passports, but with them allowing them to get back to a relative normal life they are not overly bothered either. They certainly have no sympathy for those refusing to avail of vaccines

They appear to look on those opposed to vaccine passports in the main as those that have been opposed to all and everything throughout this, and those stridently opposed to vaccines (often using mis-information doing so) as one and the same, and have no great interest in much off anything they have to say anymore.

Geolocated encrypted code? Surveilled and controlled existence? What exactly are you talking about?

There's that echo again. No more so than the water charges, let the rest of us opposed to domestic vaccine passports protest them. You can thank us later.

Sweden by comparison has 44% more deaths than Ireland and had over 10% more excess deaths last year than the previous year. Not what I would call a raging success or a creditable alternative.

Sweden also did an about turn in October 2020 when the local authorities regained the power to make their own decisions and sidelined their Public Health Authority natural herd immunity strategy. Their approach since has been like everywhere else. Vaccine based.

I am well able to think for myself, thanks for your concern, and unlike a few I look at the world and cannot see how this cabal is going to achieve totalitarian control. Seems mask wearing is how it is now going to be achieved, so if that is the best they can come up with, then I`m not going to lose a great deal of sleep worrying over it.

I also opposed water charges, so I owe you no thanks on that. Attempting to link the water charges protests to vaccine passports is a complete misnomer when it comes to the level of interest or protest. Anyway, off for a few days relaxation so will not be posting for a few days.

Don't underestimate how beaten down and weary people are and feel. A few crumbs of the often mentioned 'semblance of normality' (you yourself are talking about 'relatively normal life' as opposed to 'a normal life') are offered and people will see it as good enough. Imagine being double, and triple in the not-too-distant future, vaccinated, and still having to mask up, keep your distance, and produce a vaccine passport everywhere you go.

I would argue that the people who are casting doubts on the vaccines are scientists, doctors and governments by refusing to scrap masks everywhere (Ireland) and talking about lockdowns post-vaccination (the UK). If they believed the vaccines worked then they wouldn't be continuing with restrictions post-vaccination or talking about lockdowns post-vaccination.

I asked one of the limerick protesters about his scientific evidence behind vaccines containing one of those microchips to control us all... He asked me if I "actually believe the science" I really could only laugh my ass off

You saw guards throwing people out of a pub last week and disappeared when you were told they don't have that power.

You happened to walk past a protest of 5 people and one of them started asking you questions, what are the chances of that.

It's fair to say you make up stories to suit your agenda, I don't know how anybody can take you seriously.

They believe that the vaccines work. They don't believe that they work sufficiently to avoid some mask wearing or possible lockdowns.

Exactly. So it's vaccines + masks + lockdowns + vaccine passports.

Bu the governments and scientists in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Hungary, the Netherlands, and Finland believe the opposite of what their equivalents in Ireland believe. They all either never had, or got rid of, masks.

It's the Premier of Victoria who is talking about the 'vaccinated economy' from which people will be 'locked out'. Economy = buying and selling

Something you need to understand and the reason people aren’t protesting is that the views you hold in relation to COVID and vaccines etc are held by a small minority of people in this country, and globally. The vast majority understand the need for certain restrictions and have probably traveled to countries where they needed a vaccine pass for other diseases so it’s nothing new.

Vaccine passes for domestic hospitality will go in time, you don’t believe they will but you’ll probably believed the lockdowns would last forever and the pubs would never open, the economy would never recover, the vaccines won’t work etc etc I can’t be arsed looking through your posting history but there was loads of people posting that stuff here for the last year and they were all wrong about it.

Rolling lockdowns haven't been disproved yet.

If there is no more lockdowns between now and next Spring I'll admit I was wrong.

The Government of Wales are actively considering it. It's being treated as an option on the table, not some far our remote possibility.

Oh the irony. The echo you are hearing is the sound of multiple posters here who have convinced themselves and others of impending lockdowns, doom, and misery. It's one big circle jerk of self-flagellation. I dip in and out of this thread and it never ceases to make me laugh. The same few posters, actively seeking misery porn articles, selective quoting of politicians, scientists, etc., anything to suit their narrative. Even with the announcement of restrictions being lifted, they seek out the negativity. Yes, I wish things were moving faster, and we were back to 2019, but things are getting there, just a lot slower than I'd like. But I can accept it as I can see things are gradually improving. Some on here cannot, or just will not, accept that. Maybe it's a desperate vain attempt to be proved right and win an internet battle (see quote above "You can thank us later") or it's some kind of Stockholm syndrome. But there's definitely a warped view of society on here which I don't believe is reflected in you know, real life, away from the keyboard.

But I argue that the reason people aren't protesting is because they are so weary and are happy with what Glynn described as 'a semblance of normality'. That's fine, but other people want normality. Not a semblance of it, not a degree of it. Such people will have to emigrate, in my opinion.

I believe the vaccines work. It's many scientists and doctors in Ireland and the UK that appear to believe that they don't work by talking about lockdowns (the UK) and not getting rid of masks everywhere (Ireland). If they believed they worked then they wouldn't be talking about lockdowns and mask wearing indefinitely.

No, I don't believe they will, but I hope I'm wrong. Israel introduced the green pass, scrapped it for a week, and is now talking about 4th doses. But Denmark gives me hope in respect of the domestic passport. So we'll see.

And they haven't really opened. They've opened to vaccinated people and they're still full of yellow tape, signs everywhere etc. The only countries I can think of that got rid of all restrictions are Denmark (in particular), the Netherlands (by November) and Hungary (once a certain percentage of people had been vaccinated).

Hospitalisations are rising gradually as of today 7600 beds are occupied by Covid patients up 1300 in August. The peak was 40K in January, so you have to think something would need to go seriously wrong to even get to half that limit in the next 6 weeks or so. If it did get like that i think restrictions would be deserved to be fair.
