    Depends on personal opinion

D mode has limited regen and the car will coast along when you release the accelerator pedal (NOTE: if the car is approaching a junction and Eco Assist is enabled, the car will apply full regen to recover as much energy as possible)

B mode will apply full available regen as soon as you release the accelerator pedal. One caveat is that at 100% SoC your regen is slightly limited because you can't charge the battery above full, so your regen braking will be a bit weaker

Personally, I use D mode when driving on a motorway for long distances as it's more efficient since you aren't braking when you don't need to.

I use B mode at all other times as it's more of a "one pedal" experience and I feel it's easier/safer in estates or around towns

i find b mode useful for hilly rural country.

I'm also shocked that VW put no real discussion into the booklet as to good battery practices for longevity look like nor did they go into any particular detail on the D and B driving modes.

VW's stated approach is that you shouldnt need to think or worry about it. The car will take care of it. The main thing they do state (and its front and center on the charging screen) is that you should only charge to 80% unless you need the extra range that day.

Other than that, dont leave the car at 100% or 0% for prolonged periods of time (days/weeks, hours is fine).

D vs B is just a personal preference. It will be obvious what each one does once you drive it in each mode. I prefer D, I dont like aggressive regen but as I said its a personal preference. No right or wrong answer. D is more efficient though if thats your thing.

I also have no idea how the light bar on the dash works!!

The light bar is there to give you indications of things.... example... flashes red when you are about to crash into the car in front of you! :)

It gives a small white indication when there is an upcoming reduced speed limit or a bend where you need to slow down.

Shows two white bars to indicate that you are not in the centre of the lane

It shows the state of charge of the battery when charging by showing an ever increasing green bar.

The booklet with the car is really just a summary, the Help section in the infotainment has a lot more info

Congrats, when did you order yours and from what dealer ? I'm waiting since last week in April, 6 weeks over original delivery date.

I'd only get the ceramic coating if you are going to take care of the car and not go through an auto wash or wash it with a brush things like that.

My recent experience is that when dealers start straying off course then talking about rival EVs in a positive way quickly makes them pay attention.

Had the Opel guy giving the hard push for the Corsa EV on the showroom floor.

Talking about wanting to test drive MGs and Renaults halted the hard sell quick enough.

They are banking on you wanting the car enough to still go ahead inspite of messing.

Imo they need to hear that you *could* buy a rival car instead.

Never actually drove the MG in the end lol.

Didn't need to - salesman just needed the possibility on the table to halt the hard sell.

Best of luck and enjoy the new car feeling))

Just out of interest what was your last car? The Tour 5 seems to be the savvy choice for early adopters who know the true state of the charging network and winters effect on range.

the Dealer information pack usually has what cars in that class are its competitors and all the details on it.

@[Deleted User] if you have a friendly salesperson ask them nicely can you get your hands on the dealer information pack. it has all the details available spec and prices. its supposed to be an internal document, but they might give you it.

It took 3 months from moment of order. Initially I'd been told to expect approx. 2 months but then as the date drew near the push backs. Tbf some of the delay was due to human error on their end which I won't get into and were it not for that then 2.5 months would be be about right. The salesmen told me that they can't get the cars in fast enough which I'd believe.

Cheers for that. I was trying to find something published on this on the VW website was wasn't coming across it.

I'm wary of doing too many fast charges but at the same time without anything stated I don't know what to expect in terms of what is considered as being too often.

There is no too often. Rapid charge it as many times as you need. The car has active heating and cooling inside the battery so it will ensure you dont damage the battery.

A 1L NA polo 😅 So quite the leap!

And going back to the D / B driving modes that were asked about, I fully agree with what some others have said here. I'm using D for longer drives due to the ability to coast before switching to B should I then be moving around cities / towns with many stops and starts.

I'm a couple of days short of 3 months with my order and I'm told early Oct. at best...I should've moved sooner😉!

Could some of you new owners confirm something for me before I go have a word with my dealer?

My log book has arrived, and on it (and online when I go to tax it) the car is listed as an estate.

I contacted the girl at the dealership who processed the registration and she brushed it off with "yeah they all come up as estate for some reason".

So could someone clarify, or even better post a pic (with redactions if preferred) showing an ID3 log book with hatchback on it?

Yea, she’s right. I questioned it too. No idea why it’s classified that way.

Mine is down as an estate as well. My Golf was mark as an estate before that.

Yes Estate and VW will not change it. I contacted Motor tax who said it was a revenue issue. Revenue said they can only change it if VW notify them which they do not appear to want to do for whatever reason I do not know..

Fair enough, I stand corrected and apologies to Leanne if she's reading!

Is the tax the same for an estate as for a hatchback?

    There you go!

The road tax is the same as it's the minimum amount for a zero emission vehicle.

The "estate" thing is very common. It makes no difference and its absolutely not "ID" specific.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,059 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

No problem, if its the same for everyone that's grand.

First week done, over 1000km in the bag lol.

1K in a week!! What were you up to,.... giving all the friends and family a spin in it ??

How much did you have to charge for that?

If you are ever near the big smoke give me a shout and I'll give you a go of my we-charge card 😉.

You seem to be very happy with it anyway, as we all are. (I think)

Well a week and a half actually. Had a few days off so toured about Donegal a bit. Plus it was a 50km trip home from the dealer on day 1.

Then went to Belfast on Sunday and another bit of driving around yesterday. Back at work today so that'll settle back to normal.

I've only charged at home a wee bit when the sun was shining. Went to Portrush on the train the other day and plugged the car in at the train station, was up to 91% by the time I got back.

Hi , note you say 50km from dealer. I'm 150km from my dealer as I couldn't get a good deal from my local VW showroom. Can I go to my local dealer to resolve any issues or would I be obliged to go to the dealer I bought the car from. Anyone had experience of this kind of issue.

Finally picked up my Tour 5 after a long wait. Haven't had much driving time yet due to work but loving it so far. Does anyone know how to display the ODO/ Trip on the main speedo display? I'm used to seeing it there!

Warranty work can be carried out at any dealer, doesn't have to be the one you bought your car from.
