I'll forgive the Christmas blip because the latest episode was Ted Lasso on speed. Absoulute brilliance. It shouldn't work, the cheese and shmaltz but it does. Kinda like Ted !!

Christmas episode wasn't up to usual standard alright (it wasn't awful imo) but the latest one was terrific! I'm definitely a rom-communist! Brill to see Nick Mohammed getting some more screen time to shine, very funny character.

    Roy again though....lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,795 ✭✭✭FortuneChip

Yeah, one of the best episodes to date.

That said, kinda feel Ted is getting the short straw this season, he's a bit on the periphery. I know they're hinting at his struggle to cope with pressure etc, but there's not a massive amount of depth to it.

Isaac resolution kinda annoyed me though.

Roy makes him captain because he respects the whole angry man thing, but somehow helping him finds his way, playing rough and ready football results in him having a load of dorky handshakes and acting totally out of character. It's just a bit naff.

Everything Roy was perfect this episode. Perfect.

Its slightly in danger of becoming the Roy Kent Show. Great character and brilliantly played but the heart of the show is Ted and should be kept as such. Although if they do a Roy Kent show spinoff I'll be watching !!

Another great episode. Really moves things along. Was sure it was going to be Ted that was messaging Rebecca, but this could be much more interesting. Roy Kent continues to be the best character in the show.

Not finding this series as entertaining as the first.

Seems to be a lot more of a cheesy, feel-good vibe about it, making it too sickly sweet. And that vibe doesn't sit well with a show with so much crude language. If it wasn't for the language, a younger audience might find it enjoyable, but its R Rated with the language.

They should make this season the last.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 17,994 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

The ending, with Ted having a break down, shows it's not all sickly sweet. I've seen a few articles discussing it, and there's an argument there that the "Ted-isms" have been deliberately forced and cheese-y as Ted deals with his own feelings.

I'd also agree with what the TV's producer came out and said that we've only seen half the story so far and that there's more to unfurl - something that we're now starting to see pay off for Ted at least. So I'm looking to see how it plays out.

It's Apple's TV's biggest show (by a long way) and already renewed for a third (allegedly final) season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,987 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

I haven't seen that episode yet!

I also know why the team is not doing well. Their captain is overweight and doesn't look like an athlete at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,188 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

Ha yeah a few of the players don't look like athletes but you can see that sometimes in premier league teams when they get relegated and they can't get rid of their overweight and overpaid players but have to play them.

I think after an uneven start to the season the last two episodes have ben great. I can't see Sudeikis staying past next season with his children in the states (a bit like Ted) and can't see myself watching the show without him in it.

"Your an ugly ugly boy with bad hair"

    Fun episode this week.

Nice to see some more football this week.

    Is that series 2 over?

The first season of Ted Lasso premiered on Apple TV+ on August 14, 2020, and ran for 10 episodes, until October 2, 2020.[2][19] On August 19, 2020, it was renewed for a second season consisting of 12 episodes, which premiered on July 23, 2021.[3][4][5] In October 2020, the series was renewed for a third season.[6]

Ted & therapist was a bit slow, he accepted he needed help at the end of the last episode, it took a whole episode for him to reach that point again.

Really curious where Nate is going, he's potentially becoming the sole "bad guy" on the show.

    Jamie is criminally underused.

Roy/Keeley was good - they didn't blow it into a big relationship drama, it was resolved with some level of levelheadedness. Keeley not singing "He's here, he's there, he's every f*cking where" seems like a missed opportunity.

Completley on the fence with Rebecca & Sam. Both are likeable characters, but just don't see it going anywhere. I can see Sam making some noble gesture about protecting her from the PR hassle it would land Rebecca in, especially if the DubaiAir stuff resurfaced.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,304 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

The whole Nate being mean doesn't really ring true to me.

Roy reading the da Vinci code...lol

Jamie is definitely a bit underserved this series but it is funny in the scenes he pops up in.

    I like Rebecca and Sam.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,188 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

Yeah have to agree wish they went further with the therapist bit but the Roy and Keeley stuff saved the episode. Hate the Sam/Rebecca and especially Nate drama. wish they hadn't made Nate so unlikely for so long this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,335 ✭✭✭Heckler

A great episode. Such a good use of music. I was worried for a sec about Roy and Keeley then I remembered its Ted Lasso. The show doesn't have a cynical bone in its body.

I wouldn't say I'm enjoying the nate storyline but it's interesting to see the power of social media can have on someone especially how that one mean tweet is what affects him

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,793 ✭✭✭FunLover18

I wouldn't say I like the Nate storyline because I like the character and don't want him to be a dick but I think it does make sense when someone goes from being lowly kitman that everyone rags on to assistant coach, that's not an easy transition. How do you get people to take you seriously.

I thought the Ted stuff was great, at the end of the last episode we saw him at his weakest whereas he's now at time to build up his walls again.

Roy and Keeley, love. Like FortuneChip I'm glad they didn't make it into a needless drama but I would have expected them to, not after Ted's one night stand last season was dealt with so maturely too.

Finally a shout-out Higgins and his pipe!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,086 ✭✭✭✭Busi_Girl08

The sad thing re Nate is his self-confidence is so through the floor that he can't even recognise that the lads do take him seriously, and the gentle joshing him about the Wunderkind/Wonder Kid thing is them showing their respect for him, but after years of being the butt of the joke he can't recognise that people are laughing with him, not at him.

My heart broke for him when his dad dismissed him at the start of the episode, but felt bad for Colin and Will - seriously thought with the former it would have seriously affected him given his therapy.

Doc is getting her money's worth with this team anyway!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,304 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Strong episode this week for me, it was longer but packed in a lot of good stuff, loved the little Jamie Tart and Higgins scene, plus the haircut one. Roy continues to be a joy!

Sam and Rebecca have serious chemistry...just saying!

I have a bad feeling Nate might use the confessions against Ted and Higgins.

Keeley floored me with her question to Rebecca. Absolutely out of nowhere.

Yeah decent episode. Beard and Roy, what a double act!

I didn't realise how much I needed that moment between Roy and Jamie until it happened.

Very good episode. The Rebecca Sam storyline has been handled well. Interested in where the Nate storyline is going. A very realistic depiction of how football is with big versus small clubs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,795 ✭✭✭FortuneChip

Sam and Rebecca played out better than I expected. Not least because of the laugh Sam let's out when he cops who he's meeting.

Lots of good stuff elsewhere between Ted & Sharon, Jamie and Roy/Higgins, Beard/Roy & Nate.

Strong episode for the most part.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,617 ✭✭✭archfi

    Enjoyed that.

Roy and the teacher about swearing

Jamie and the pig-of-a-da, Jamie/Roy hug though that went on too long :)

The haircut scene was very, very funny

The small football scenes/results are thankfully, realistic. 5-nil is about right.

The issue is never the issue; the issue is always the revolution.

This is a good article, like everything in this show they've taken the time and laid the groundwork.

Jason Sudeikis closed a new deal on season 3 that will see him earn around $1 million an episode

Watched the first season of this - utter utter sh1te ... I can imagine the only people who are giving it such good reviews are Americans or people that don't like football.

An NFL coach managing an English football club is laughable, the main guy is a complete idiot - bumbling moron.

The only saving grace are the 2'endery characters, like Nate - he is quite funny.

But that f*cking idiot Ted , jesus how is this crap popular ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,306 ✭✭✭✭Drumpot

Yeh I think they are setting Nate up to be the baddy alright. Rebecca will be under pressure to sack him (a manager having a panic attack and walking off pitch during game !!!).

This is such a great show, love how they are handling Ted and Dr Sharon dynamic. Wasn’t sure what to make her character at the start but it’s really paying off now. Little hints at her own demons (empty bottles in home) really is a nice nuance to challange her public image or “mask” of somebody who is totally together and in control of sh*t.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,306 ✭✭✭✭Drumpot

Wait a second. I like football and I like Ted lasso. This doesn’t compute with what you are saying….. What’s going on??!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,213 ✭✭✭✭Penn

I was like that at the start. Even after watching the first season, I was conflicted because I know I shouldn't like it because it does a lot of things I hate in other shows.

The football is irrelevant. The concept is ridiculous. Issues are resolved far too easily and happily. Some characters are caricatures.

But for some reason, this just works for me. Sometimes it is just nice watching characters being happy. Sometimes it's fun to watch caricatures. And every now and then, there are just some brilliant lines and writing.

I fully acknowledge it's a show I shouldn't like. Yet I can't help but like it. It's effortlessly charming and even the most annoying characters just grow on you after a while.

Well this week's episode was.. different.

From what I've read, Apple ordered 2 extra episodes but the season had already been mapped out so they wrote and inserted two kind of standalone episodes, seemingly the Christmas one and now this one.

Absolutely loved this episode, yes it didn't nothing for the story and was a bit mad, however it was a good bit of TV with some really funny moments and I had a big smile across my face when it finished

Looks to be heading for big Emmy wins

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,140 ✭✭✭ConcertKing

Delighted Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent) won supporting actor in a comedy series at the Emmys!

So well deserved and his acceptance speech was brilliant!

Also delighted for Jason Sudekis (Ted Lasso) for winning Lead Actor in a comedy series and Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton) for winning supporting actress in a comedy series at the Emmys!

Icing on the cake winning Outstanding Comedy Series which was richly deserved!

The whole episode I kept flipping between "Beard is having another mushroom trip" and "Beard just attempted suicide and this all some sort of life flashing before his eyes" sort of thing.

Loved the lads getting the happy ending on their night out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,650 ✭✭✭✭ted1

Really enjoyed that episode. Had a woody Allen feel about it. The lads (supporters)reminded me so much of my mates after a few drinks on a night out..

Felt much more like Scorcese's criminally underrated After Hours to me. Loved the episode, Coach Beard is a brilliant character so it was great to see him get a lot more screen time.
