That sounds like something that would flash across a screen in a sci fi movie ‘access denied’ but in this strange world one wonders. There was talk on here before of a social credit system, which was dismissed as a conspiracy, in saying that the vax passes were dismissed in the same way and then lo and behold they arrived.

I'd love to see your source on 34% efficacy and is that based on infection, serious illness or death?

Secondly, every adult has been offered a vaccine. The only group now is 12-15, so do you recommend we use a viral vector vaccine which has a higher risk of adverse reactions to a younger age group and the fact they haven't even been tested on kids or even approved? So lets take our AZ & J&J order and let them sit in the fridge? Please what's your plan, vaccine animals?

The israeli case data was a shock to me, i know they got their vaccines quite early, so maybe 3rd shots all around after six months.

The revenue are knocking now for money from self employed, seetec, social welfare very active,

Not sure what the plan is anymore, duck and dive if shots are giving the world 6 to 9 months restbite, unless things sort themselves out.

    Dont know anymore.

MM will give us a hopeful speech but say 'we have a new virus on our hands'

Revenue don't 'knock' for money. Self assessment isn't due until Oct 31st. You getting a wee bit carried away there.

As for boosters, we're in a completely different place than last Dec/Jan. We have the infrastructure in place and the supplies. We could do all nursing homes in a fraction of the time compared to before. If they are needed.

In your first paragraph you admit that restrictions have eased and in your second paragraph you want me to name one restriction that has been eased...really?

Discussion ongoing on the relaxation of social distancing but masks in shops and on transport might remain till Spring, pending very strict criteria.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,132 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

For a long time Israel was the vaccination data to look at but we've almost done as many as Israel at this stage and may pass them very soon. They have issues with vaccine hesitancy with certain groups so a blanket over 50 booster approach may be their only way of adjusting to that. Boosters here are likely to be very targeted.

    Provided strict targets are met

    Ergo this is just talk

They are draft proposals. Nothing alarming about those limits and we will hit that 85-90% of over 16s done. R0 under 1 and hospitals not under pressure is a given.

As predicted there'll be a raft of caveats and ifs, buts and maybes in this roadmap.

Outline plans discussed last month envisage that moving to this point would be dependent on the disease remaining under control, and extremely high levels of vaccination – upwards of 85-90 per cent of the over-16s. The reproduction or R number, a measure of how many other people a case infects, would have to be close to 1, with key indicators showing the disease was being suppressed, and that hospitals weren’t struggling. Variants of greater transmissibility or vaccine resistance could also hold back progress.

I wonder what "removing the requirement for distancing and mask-wearing outside or in private indoor settings" means. They're not mandatory outside. Does private indoor settings mean banks and private businesses?

    "and that hospitals weren't struggling".

Well that might be a problem in winter, wouldn't it. I wonder if they mean struggling from covid or struggling with covid?

Hospitals not under pressure is a given is it?

Unlike every single winter that we've never known?

This is not exactly a plan for "living with covid"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,132 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

Not under pressure from COVID cases. The normal pressure is a HSE remit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,057 ✭✭✭✭titan18

I guess they actually mean in your own house or someone else's house, which Id imagine no one is wearing masks in those settings anyway. Loads of other countries will be maskless even on public transport this year but we're waiting until Spring for some reason of course.

As the anthropologist David Graeber once wrote:

"The ultimate, hidden truth of the world is that it is something that we make, and could just as easily make differently".

Play your own small part by not participating in the use of domestic health passes or pay the price when we have a social credit system.

Hopefully the government ignore those daft proposals. It would mean very little change until next spring at the earliest. Public health officials (ie the HSE) would of course love to see the current restrictions in place till then as it would help to relieve pressure on an extremely inefficient bloated mess of a healthcare system.

Let's see what MM comes out with at the end of the month but I would not be too hopefully that we will see removal of restrictions this year and a lot of the legislation will be rolled over until the spring.

So we'll have upwards of 90% of adults vaccinated within weeks yet by February essentially the only thing that'll change is a reduction of "distancing" from two metres to one metre?

    Utterly farcical

It would be farcical if that's what has been announced by the government. It hasn't.

Not sure they ever have been, but don't think I've ever checked either, and I'd be surprised if many actually followed it if it was. It's the only thing I can take from private indoor settings though (not sure what else that would be)

I actually think they might be. I remember Holohan saying a few months ago that vaccinated people could "safely resume normal life": Dr Tony Holohan declares 'normal life' return in big lockdown update - Irish Mirror Online

“If you are fully vaccinated you can safely resume normal life - meeting other fully vaccinated people from up to two households indoors without masks or social distancing, and meeting unvaccinated people from one other household indoors and without masks."

It's amazing to think that you need permission from him and the government to have people over to your own home.

He forgot to mention the myriad restrictions on every aspect of people's lives when he said 'normal life' could resume.

A winter of restrictions is ahead of us. A few posters on here have very much pinned their colours to the mast in predicating major easing of restrictions from September onwards including the vaccine pass for indoor hospitality and that all the emergency powers will lapse in November and we will essentially have zero covid restrictions or limitations by Christmas. I hope they are right but don't see it.

I hope they are right as well but the best way to judge future performance is to look at what they have previously done. There is very little to indicate this approach will be taken by our current government.

This is just the MO of our current establishment though. Fly a few kites early to see how it's recieved. I wouldn't put any stock into these reports yet and will wait for MM to formally announce his "roadmap". All in all it's just another failure in communication from this lot, one more in a long list.
