The sports and gig attendance really needs to be looked at.

Crazy when you see the return of the English Premier league across the water compared to the all ireland semi final in Croke Park yesterday.

Tbh, i wouldn't be putting Mark Rutte on a pedestal yet. The Dutch have also back tracked on re-openings, sure I was supposed to be going to a gig there early next month but it has had to be rescheduled. While its great to see them aiming for November as an end game, I still wouldn't believe anything until I see it with my own eyes.

You need to be much clearer with your comments, it looks like you were asking why they are allowed do things in England right now, I would hope that by the start of November we in Ireland would have restrictions lifted to a much greater degree

A list of concerts in August all over Europe.

Quick look concerts in Prague, UK and Poland today.

Its nit just the UK or England

    Gortanna,

Irish people have largely rejected their own freedom. Especially in the physical world, though in many cases surrendering their thoughts also.

What's mad is how much spite seems to play a role in this e.g. people celebrating being bound to QR-code ID because of a vengeful feeling that some other people will be locked out and have it even worse. What a hollow victory that must be.

To me there is no social distancing. I am not going to crowd a stranger that doesn't want to be crowded obviously. But kissing a girl on a date, or hugging friends and family is a no-brainer. Yet officially this isn't supposed to be happening. Bizarre.

What's more, politicians will probably never again campaign door to door. They will be distant figures, simply appearing on television to issue new orders or sending generic form letter replies to constituent queries.

There are no more adversarial politics due to the strong interlinking of institutions, public bodies, private corporations, trade unions and other societal networks. People with officially 'wrong' points of view are (increasingly) viewed as scapegoats/insane/stupid/a nuisance.

An individual can still have a kind of spiritual independence though - (especially through Jesus Christ, though I know religion doesn't interest everyone) and that will have to be enough I guess.

What? You're not making much sense there.

Then again you think we are the most cleverest boys and girls in Europe and everyone else is thick, so you've clearly lost all perspective.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,866 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Can you point out to me when I said "everyone else is thick?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,448 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

You called the UK government thick and said we are very clever in this country because we're not trying to "cripple" 20% of our population (whatever that meant). It's quite clear you think we are exceptional in Ireland and are doing the right thing no questions asked. Anyone on a different track is stupid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,866 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

So in your mind the UK government = Everybody else?

I can see your confusion now

So basically the UK government isn't everybody else, in fact it's health policy only directly affects one of the countries of the UK, if you have a map I suggest you look at it also, it might help you to understand how when I referenced one nations government I did not mean "everybody else in Europe" do you understand now?

What's your view of the Dutch government looking to lift all restrictions by November? Are they stupid or on the right track?

What about Hungary? Are they thick?

2 months away, hard to call but I'd be surprised if we weren't going to be very close to full restrictions being eased at that time... I'm not a fan of waiting until the end of the month for our exit plan to be announced but I'll reserve judgement until it's published... Do the Dutch have a plan or is it just everything removed on that day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,290 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

But with the soundbites going around atm about the rise in cases and hospitals starting to become full again.

It's not nieve to think this plan could be ripped up before it's even begun (tbh it's probably not even started)

You did claim we were ‘smarter than most the rest of the world’.

Not as bad as saying everyone else is thick, grant you that.

I think he look's more like Albert Einstein compared to the likes of Sleepy Joe, Mehole & Macron at the moment.

Stand firm lads, a meaningful Valentines Day is possible.

The sad thing is that it seems the majority of people are ok with restrictions and some people actually seem to enjoy them and encourage them. I’d say the majority of older people would have no problem with further restrictions this Winter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,271 ✭✭✭brickster69

Speaking of Professor Macron. In France, soon a child will not be allowed to go into a supermarket with a parent unless they have a negative test result. You can just picture the scenes outside Carrefour, dozens of children strapped to the lamp posts while the parents pop in to get them some food to eat.

The Israel's are just as mad

Why is he incompetent? Because he’s letting the UK get on with things?

Are you upset that a small number of elderly people will unfortunately die with covid as a result? Is that why he is idiotic and incompetent?

That's simply nonsense. The 5km thing was a restriction. Places that were closed were restricted from opening. You cannot seriously say that because something was always going to return to normal that it doesn't count as a restriction.

I'm playing catch up on the thread. I was enjoying myself at a music festival over the weekend.

It's a strange posting style alright. Make up scenarios and then run with it.

Of all the places to be worried about heading to, the UK would be at the bottom of my list. They don't mind Irish people heading over, in fact they almost want us over there right now to increase tourism. I booked a ferry and hotel trip for the family in the Lake District for mid September and can't wait.

Our lot, who the hell knows what they'll announce or do. I don't think even they know.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

The hospitals didn't collapse in the middle of January at 8000 cases a day in an almost entirely unvaccinated population.

I simply can't understand how they can claim there is a danger of it happening in a 90% vaxxed population this winter. How can this nonsense not be called out.

The reason is no journalist will ask the question and if they do they will demeaned or the answer will be dodged

I agree with you. I think what will eventually happen is that lots of people will emigrate to seek that spiritual independence you describe. It can still be found.

While not as bad as the stuff on the mask thread, I find it horrifying to read posts about people who don't wish to take this particular vaccine being the enemy and how they should be locked out of society. People don't think of the wider picture. Sure vaccinated people can dine indoors today, but before they know it they'll be scanning the QR code to go anywhere and everywhere, as is now the case in France, hilariously described as being in the free West (a concept which is also hilarious).

Okay, even if that can be described as an example of a restriction being eased, they're still operating under heavy restrictions. So it was kind of half or a quarte eased.

Can you name one restriction that has been eased apart from intercounty travel being permitted? Indoor dining is also heavily restricted.

500 years of fighting for a government that's more corrupt and useless than what we would have gotten if we had just given in. We'd all be better off now. Ask the North and Scotland

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 962 ✭✭✭Burty330

I see people slashing in corners and stumbling down the street with pints in hand. The curfew has brought out this behavior into plain sight during daytime hours. Stupid government

naivety by the government at its finest

I see talk of boosters becoming mandatory for health care staff and for travel here in the UK as you want your “certification as up to date as possible”. It’ll sure be interesting watching the 3 dosers fight the 2 dosers.

Well, that's what people signed up for when they supported vaccine passes, compulsory administration of boosters, indefintely, or access denied.
