No I said he was the leader of a country with a nuclear Arsenal. “Here it is. Put a smile on my face. Leader of a country with a nuclear Arsenal. https://youtu.be/L4Kddt66tPo

you said he couldn’t do a thing with it as it was leased, needed uncle Sam’s permission etc. your position was flip flopping then. I said they leased the missiles etc but owned the warheads. You agreed said not much use without rest. Then claimed the warheads are US property which they clearly are not. Then saying you’re not wrong.

    1. bojo can launch without uncle Sam’s position (no one wants that) you said he couldn’t.
    2. you said he hadn’t nukes. He clearly does, leased missiles, owned the warheads.
    3. you said the warheads were USA property again. they are uk warheads.

it’s hard to keep up with you so many positional changes you make. Can we just leave it at that. This is an argument over bojo’s umbrella and I added about nukes to lighten the mood. Then you started posting factually incorrect stuff.

The Mexican government are suing 6 US gunmakers for $10 billion damages because they say the gunmakers are openly pandering to Mexican criminals and drug cartels to boost profits.

Best of luck to the Mexican government I say, arms are too freely available and without the wall that the orange fella promised they are too easy to get across the border.

    I actually hope they do.

As it will bring out the dirty deals of Obama, Biden and Eric Holder to the fore in operation Fast&Furious .

Be a bit difficult to explain how full-auto weaponry that was sold to the Mexican govt, along with 50cal HMGs and state of the art military equipment ends up in the hands of Mexican Narco gangs is somehow the fault of US gun makers. As full auto stuff and state of the art military equipment isn't commonly available in border town gun shops. Or how full-auto AKs from Venezula, that great Socialist country, end up in Mexico either?

Sounds like the Mexican govt is trying a bit of deflection as well,as their police and military is utterly corrupt and has been found to sell their equipment and stores to the highest bidder. And don't forget,Mexico is a brilliant example of strict civilian gun control in action.🤣

It would also be a great help if that cackling lunatic Ka- MA- La who has less popularity than Dan Quale at this point in time that the dirty old man in the White House, who was appointed "border Czar" actually went and did her job ,and only visited her problem once Trump announced he was going down to view the situation.

Andrew Cuomo resigns. Just now on the news. Clever move. By resigning he can run again. If he was impeached [which the Dem's were threatening] that option is gone.

Was watching the live broadcast and found it funny that he claimed due process should have been followed/allowed. He did not extend that courtesy when he levelled accusation against others.

That being said he is right. He should have been afforded due process, but with a [Dem] AG looking for his job, and an evnvironment of their own creation he cornered himself.

What is happening at Barcelona Football club? Messi wouldn't take cut wages, the club's salary bill exceeded fair play rules and now there is talk of most of the first squad team being sold in the transfer window?

Watching the news about students in the UK getting "determined grades" by their own teachers. Is this happening in Ireland too? Would it not be "skewed" given teachers that know the students are likely to give more favourable grades than if the students were marked by examiners they did not know afteer doing an exam? Were exams even taken (I believe students had the option of determined grades or take the exams)?

Cork city instals five robotic trees with an annual maintenance cost of €350,000. Dr Dean Venables, a UCC researcher and atmospheric scientist, says the devices are a costly and ineffectual gimmick.

    Ah yes, the bird mincers.

Reading an article on it and apparently it'll take in dust in the "immediate" vicinity and trap it or "feed" the moss the tree contains. Dr Venables said an actual tree would be of more benefit so how many could be planted with €350,000 per year? Also what area would such a plantation "clean" compared to these five things?

Looks like Lynx shampoo. It goes by Axe in some countries. Would I buy it, depends on the price. I usually buy my shampoos etc in Aldi. The main active ingredient is sodium laureth sulfate in them all anyway so apart from a few smell differences they're all the same. Look at how much it is per liter and buy the cheapest.

Funny, a couple of days ago I said to my wife, that the shampoo smelled funny, I was using hers as I had ran out. Apparently it's for blonde hair and cost a score a bottle. What a waste!

Anyone else collecting mushrooms at the moment? Must of been the heat followed by the rain but they are everywhere.

Nothing to be done with that many apart from mushroom soup. The taste difference is huge compared to shop bought. I can taste the field/breeze off the wild ones.

Seen a rabbit recipe on youtube that had a lot of mushrooms in it but would a rabbit be a bit strong this time of the year? Dad always says a month with an r in it is the time for rabbits, basically not the summer.

They had been pushing too hard financially for years, trying to match Real Madrid, along with other big European clubs.

Barca got away with it, as long as they continued to be successful - picking up big sponsorship deals, lots of prize money, selling out their c100,000 seater stadium etc.

However, I think the beginning of the end was when they massively overpaid for Coutinho, who subsequently didn't work out at Barca. That, coupled with Barca having a few years without much success on the pitch, and then having to loose out on ticket sales due to the impact of Covid - 19 all hurt them, financially.

I think Real Madrid did a very "creative" deal to sell part of their training ground for a rediculous amount of money a while back, which has helped them to some extent - although I think they still have some financial problems of their own, to deal with - so are also shipping out a few players this summer.

Ultimately, Barca is owned by its fans, and probably has a large element of Cathelonian (and even Basque support), so they wouldn't benefit from the same level of support as Real Madrid will get / has had, from the Spanish Government.

Finally, as for Messi - he's worth absolutely millions, having earned a fortune from Barca, claims he loves them and turns on the tears when he pretends that he has to leave for financial reasons, them a few days later, he signs for PSG and is going to get something like €700k per week! If Messi loves Barca so much, and he's already set for life, Why didn't he stay and play for a nominal wage, to help the club? He's no better than most other footballers, a mercenary!

    Thanks,

    G.

Buying those fake trees is either the stupidest thing that a state employee has done this month, or is the the result of someone getting a nice fat brown envelope.

Don't underestimate the power of a civil servant to multi task, I would say both your options happened on that on.

It never ceases to amaze me the sums of money that can be found to be wasted on projects such as those but yet our local and mental health services to name a few get a pittance and have to make do.

I don't think he could have stayed with Barcelona even if he agreed to play for free. Barcelona are way above the wage cap and aren't allowed to register any new players until they get below that wage cap and given that Messi was out of contract, he couldn't be registered unless they got rid of a pile of players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,507 ✭✭✭garrettod

They have actually just mentioned that on Off The Ball, on Newstalk.

However, I don't see why they had to let his contract expire, if both sides really wanted to find a solution - why not extend it at significantly less wages, the day before it expired, for example?

We all know that where there's a will, there's a way.

I don't believe that Messi had any interest in staying, once the cash wasn't there for him.

    Thanks,

    G.

Yes, rain and heat this time of the year brings the mushrooms - got a few only about a dozen so far, but saw a few today and marked them. There are plenty of young rabbits around now, they will be more tender. The really small ones are better left alone, but I consider 3/4 grown fair game. They have made a great comeback here around me, haven't seen such numbers in over 20 years, so delighted. Did not shoot any yet, want to let them thrive a bit longer. Foxes and cats showing up in strength too. Love the field mushrooms.

He'll get it at PSG. Half a million a week with €25 million signing bonus.

@Feisar and @yubabill I have no taste for mushrooms but I've these large (between 2 to 5 inch) flat ones at the back of the house and smaller "domed" ones to the front. This year they are plentiful whereas other years I've only seen a few, mostly to the back of the house. Makes some noise when I drive over them with the mower. 😁

I don't blame Messi to be honest. Football for us is a sport but for him it's his job and the aim of a job is to make money. I would switch jobs if someone offered me significantly more money. And my company would more get rid of me (if they could) if someone would do my job for significantly less.

Would you keep working for your employer if they slashed your wages by more than 50%? I can't see any circumstances where I'd put up with that unless I had absolutely no other option.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,507 ✭✭✭garrettod

While I agree with you, in principal, I don't think you are comparing like with like - Mesi is worth millions, didn't need to work for money to cover his living costs, or retirement plans. No offence, but I assume you do - and know that I do 😊

    Thanks,

    G.

It's still Messi's job all the same.

And yeah, I'm skint so I have to go to work unfortunately.
