Guys anyone training or already acquired a CCNA cert?

Tempted myself but looking for it to be done online but not sure where to look that's reliable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,029 ✭✭✭✭Cuddlesworth

Not sure what your asking? The exam is via Pearson Vue, which is online atm due to to covid with some serious restrictions.

You should be able to self study it, books/videos/labs etc. Instructor lead would just be the same as watching a video series, because its all online for now.

Edit: Just checked your post history. Sounds like you need to pick a field and specialise or go heavily into something people are looking for, like automation/devops. FAS or whatever they called themselves nowdays devalued the CCNA in Ireland into a worthless cert by pumping huge numbers at it with braindumps for the exams, in my opinion.

Anyone any experience with vetroo? They have a white 240 AIO on Amazon for £60 and have 5 star reviews so they're tempting me a little:

Why take the risk, just pick up an arctic liquid freezer 2.

I wouldn't bother, for the sake of 40 quid or so you can grab an h100i from Corsair or an arctic freezer and have a much lower risk of a dodgy aio pump or leaking and destroying all your components

Wouldn't chance it myself TBH; No warranty to fall back on.

ID-Cooling Auraflow X240 has 5yrs manufacturer's warranty for only a tenner more (+5 for white)

Ya I'll probably just settle for the Auraflow 240 or a Galahad 240

Just wondering, so the past few weeks I've been pricing various parts for a new build, I only considered a Ryzen processor, and was also recommended Ryzen by others in their suggestions (initially I was thinking of 5800x but that was overkill and 5600x is sufficient for PC for gaming/general use).

The reason being that tbh I thought the current generation of Ryzens was supposed to be superior to Intel's lineup.

Out of curiosity, I looked up Intel chips today, seems their most recent generation mainstream is the i5-11600k, same number of cores and threads as the 5600x and slightly higher base clock speed (3.9 Ghz vs 3.7 Ghz)

Seems to have very similar performance to the ryzen chip from what I googled too, but it's £30 cheaper on Amazon (also has the added benefit of integrated graphics which at least makes the PC useable if I don't get a GPU straight away).

Is it worth considering this, or will the higher wattage negate the price saving?

No cooler with the 11600k so thats the cost saving used up right there

    For 5600x vs 11600k:

It's better to replace the 5600x stock fan with any relatively decent cheap aftermarket air cooler from reviews I've seen previously, so I wouldn't really take that into consideration.

The power draw and heat generated would probably tip me in favour of the Ryzen anyway.

11600K will use 109W+ more than the 5600X in multi-threaded applications just to match performance.

Which means not only do you need a better PSU, but your cooling system needs to be beefy too.

Also, the 11600K has to lower clockspeed once more than 4 threads are active, going from 4.9GHz -> 4.6GHz. The 5600X can sustain its max core boost at all times (mine hits 4.7GHz all-core with ease).

Finally, the B550 motherboards are REALLY good for mid-range, e.g. MSI MPG B550 Gaming Edge WiFi / Asus TUF Gaming B550-Plus WiFi around 155eur which have all the features you could want and will run a 5600X at max boost all day.

    Untitled Image

    I have one, it's great & quiet.

And whatever you think about the VRM fan on the pump head, it has been proven to lower VRM temps better than even tower air coolers.

Yeah, I have the non-RGB variant cooling my 3700X and it's great.

I guess the 7nm vs 14nm process makes a big difference in power efficiency then.

So 3dfx are back in some form or other. Some investment group has said they've bought the rights to the 3dfx name, though they seem to intend to misuse the name on random stuff:

If it isn't an active scam, then at best it's just an attempt at brand necromancy to sell some generic junk. A shame, as there could be an appreciable market for Voodoo 3/4/5's for retro users.

Oh it's ideal for the smart level headed person who cares about performance (not me) but I just think the Lian li Galahad looks gorgeous and will suit my build down to the ground as I've a white p360 and strix b550.

Anyone know of a service like mailbox.de in Spain?

Edit: Found one, Shipping address spain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 878 ✭✭✭Luck100

Some of those Spanish sites need a Spanish taxpayer ID or something like that to buy anything. I wasted a lot of time browsing pccomponentes before I realized it wasn't going to work.

The 3dfx revival was purely a troll, the twitter account is gone.

And even then, still easier to get one of their cards than an Nvidia FE :pacwouldgohere:

    I miss :pac: :(

Though I miss being able to buy GPUs without taking out a mortgage more :o

I've been putting off putting my old rig back together, but after months of anxiety and procrastination, got an Antec 900 case refitted with noctua fans throughout, power up the old Bulldozer CPU on the next oldest card in the house... I am running the R9 390 I used to replace the Radeon HD 5770 - 2 of them - because they were finally too old for modern gaming instruction sets (crashed during No Mans Sky load), well, lo and behold these old Sapphire cards are doing that **** on Apex Legends too, which is what the OH wanted it for, when doing anything that triggers the 3rd person camera, it freezes out to desktop. Probably fixable with support, but the latest beta driver for this was signed in 2016. RIP. Already tried various settings, disabling crossfire, etc. - **** things aren't even worth mining with.

When am I going to be able to get a card that isn't 250% MSRP...

Have you considered trading in your GPU's and/or any other spare equipment you have into CEX for vouchers and getting a used GPU from them? Their prices aren't great for second hand but come with 2 year warranty and if you got a few quid off by trading in old stuff you might get a decent card for your needs.

Going for a new card the AMD direct lottery is the only show in town with regards to MSRP, unfortunately no Nvidia FE options directly available to Ireland. Some AIB cards are dropping in price but these are still well above MSRP as I'm sure you know

    Really bad idea.

You're better off going on Adverts.ie and checking for GTX 1070 / 1080 - starting to see them under €450 again.

    Or GTX 1060/1660 around 250-300.

Really Bad Idea ? That's a bit OTT.

He'd possible get €100 plus in vouchers for the GPU's which he has but don't fit his needs and probably more if he had any other old stuff like phones/consoles just lying around doing nothing but gathering dust. After vouchers the cash outlay on a 1660 with the added bonus of a warranty from CEX could be less than the cash outlay on a card from adverts .

He could of course try to sell his current GPU's and offset any cash made against the cost of a second hand card from adverts but that could take some time.

CEX is quick and painless, they'll do online buying if a store isn't near you. They provide you with a tracked prepaid insured postage label for anything you're sending into them and will return it free of charge if you're not happy with the final offer.

They're by no means cheap but it's possible to get good product with warranty from them for little or no cash outlay if you've stuff to trade. I've traded thousands of euro worth of stuff to them I'd never be able to sell due to time constraints or limited demand. It may not be an option for all but for some it will, it's certainly not a bad idea to consider using them.
