oh and mark i left a comment on the youtube vid of the etron gt charging which was great btw, but if you press view on the steering wheel while charging it changes the display and you can see the rate of charge being achieved (i.e. if its taking 150 kw/h or 200 whatever it is)

    Completely agree.

New set up is a disaster so far.

I thought it was terrible last week but generally seems OK now, or I've gotten used to it. Once you find your way to this sub-forum (which is generally my default area), then its not so different to before.

The reduction in traffic is very apparent though... place is gone very quiet. I've seen once very active forums die a death very quickly before for similar reasons.

It’s fairly clunky to use alright. I linked images the way I always would’ve and the errors a few posts back was what I got. etron S 👍🏻

Also in a Supra, Puma ST and e2008 this week so I’m a bit busy 😂

that looks lovely mark, are they 21s?

    Looks nice and aggressive.

    Beautiful colour.

    Navarra blue?

I was looking at the prices of the Q4 E Tron and they are mad in my view plus it doesn't seem to be the quality product like Audi's of old.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,573 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

Why would you think the prices are mad? It's in around the price of an a5 and cheaper than an a6. Even to use a SUV comparison, it's available as a fair bit cheaper than a q5.

Would you not class it in the same quality bracket as the above cars?

Its electric, it's an SUV and it's an audi, always going to be expensive. Holy trinity.

Is it maybe the fact it's underpinned the same as an ID4 and enyaq that is making it seem expensive to you? Valid point I suppose.

As an aside, audi have removed the a6 diesel from their website. Are they finished selling them? Can get an s6 diesel and a6 phev only now by looks of it.

Can't see many EV with a decent badge or spec for less than 50k. Big money no matter what in fairness.

    Used 2021 (212) Audi Q4 e-tron 40 201BHP Advance - IN STOCK !!!! in Westmeath (carzone.ie)

This is a fairly typical not very highly equipped Q4 I found for sale on Carzone.

No way should this be a 65k car in my opinion.

Looking on the configurator, leather is 2700 odd, no power tailgate, no nav unless you pay 2k for mmi plus...

I just think the spec is mean even for an Audi.

Some reviewers have said that the Skoda Enyaq interior is actually better quality too. Cheap plastics and the thing that is a personal no no for me is the lack of trim around the windows. The body coloured metal exposed in the interior screams cost saving to me.

That said, the demand will probably outstrip supply and they will nearly all be sold on pcp as seems to be the Audi business model now but I can't get my head around the prices and spec on offer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,573 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

The 40 etron is crazy money alright. That's not even an S Line. The 35 is much much cheaper but is the range enough?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,827 ✭✭✭carsfan2

The 35 would only be good enough range as a city car I reckon although maybe some ev experts might disagree.

apparently Audi are expecting the Q4 e tron to be the second best selling car in their range by end of next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,933 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

    Depends

Most people don't don't more than 250k in a day more than a few times a year, and there is fast charging on the major routes. A year on I haven't found the range of my Etron 50 (280km max you could rely on) an issue. But we are urban dwellers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,827 ✭✭✭carsfan2

very true but in addition I think the 35 model Q4 has lower power albeit probably quick enough for most.

Still I suppose it is good to see more choice in the EV market. I think the Kia EV6 at 50 to 55k for a loaded GT line model offers more than the Audi.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,827 ✭✭✭carsfan2

BMW i4 now up on the Irish configurator.

I know it’s not cheap but the i4 M50 looks a comparative bargain at just about 78k with over 500km range and 3.9seconds to 100km.

pretty well equipped too for a BMW.

Any reasons why the F30 330e are cheaper compared to 320d ? Some lovely examples for sale but am unsure as to why a lot of them are cheaper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,603 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

They had lower VRT than the diesel and there were a glut of them imported here from the UK before Brexit. They won't match the diesel for long distance fuel consumption either. If you don't do massive mileage and have the ability to charge them at home then they make more sense. Boot is smaller though due to the batteries.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,060 ✭✭✭Sexual Chocolate

I see. Theres also a much better variety in spec compared to any of the diesels on used car sites in my opinion but not sure if one is for me.

Decent 320/330 diesels are quite far and few between I've found. Many of them have undergone the horrendous M Performance treatment or are just SE or ED models.

Lovely one here up north in Melbourne Red but is out of my budget. Looking at €27k all in which is decent for a 2018.

I'm currently debating whether to go view this 120d or not. The aulfella reckons it's a woman's car but anyone I've shown it doesn't agree. No leather seats is my only gripe. €19700 all in could have me that which part of me thinks is a bit on the steep side for a 15 but every other F20 down here is a 116 or 118. The 125d is practically non existent over here.

I think they are stunning, would love one. €90k to more or less fully load one, and what’s amazing is that the equivalent car in the UK is about €87k. Really shows how much a rip off our VRT is, but worried gov will start to claw this back by putting in a tiered vrt system depending on price of the electric car. They have already done it with the grant so I’d imagine vrt will be next.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭James Bond Junior

We had a 116d and my wife reckoned it was the best car she ever drove. Great to drive, reasonably spacious. With a 20d engine they are bordering on hot hatch territory. Great cars.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,827 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I struggled to get my configuration much over 84k. You must be throwing the kitchen sink at it!

I agree that the vrt is going to go up for electric very soon. I could see a realignment coming this budget or next as more electric/ hybrid are sold.

how are you getting on with the 530e?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,541 ✭✭✭Leonard Hofstadter

I see the range is very variable, in the spec I would want were I buying one (which I'm most definitely not) the 510 km range has dropped to just 414, and that's on the hopelessly optimistic WLTP cycle.

And the more I look at that interior the more I realise how cheap and tacky that curved display is, the really should have stuck with the proper separate instrument binnacle and iDrive display, not to mention all the buttons for the radio and climate control like in the standard 4 GC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,933 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

Yeah I'd take the range with a very large pinch of salt!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,287 ✭✭✭digiman

I did add all the packs and the sunroof with the 20" alloys!

The 530e is going good, getting 75mpg out of it which is incredible really. Haven’t been driving I that much, about 900km in 6 weeks and still have a little over a 1/4 of a tank. Enjoying the shear luxury of the spec on it. I’m really loving the massage seats and so does anyone who sits in it also. The seats are also ventilated but can’t say I noticed a huge improvement from that in the hot weather, it is a bit better for sure but nothing ground breaking. Still haven't went and figured out how to tweek the sound system to make it better. On my to do list.

I drove a 128ti last week which was a lot of fun, neighbour had one and took her for a decent spin on some nice driving roads. I forgot how a FWD handles and kinda took me a bit by surprise the way it impacts the steering when you floor it. Really nice little car I must say.

Since it doesn't look like anyone is going anywhere next I thought I'd drop this article into this once fine thread.

Looks like someone has attempted to do an analysis on the price rises in car market we are seeing. Looks like it's very tricky to get a decent car for small money now according to this.

And I see it first hand too, the current model A6 or 5 series I was looking at picking up for 30k this year is nowhere to be seen. The same car is indeed dearer this year than last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,603 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

There is little to no value out there in the car market at the moment, used car prices are over inflated and new car prices have risen also. It's like the property market.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,827 ✭✭✭carsfan2

The other side of it though is that newer cars are not losing value like a stone which had been the case up until recently.

choice though is really poor and we’re unlikely to see any change in the future. If anything I could see vrt increases again on higher emissions cars.

I don't know, these thing never last indefinitely and the car owner seldom comes out on top with the amount of money that's involved now. Dealers, banks and the taxman are higher up in the winner stakes imo. Supply will eventually catch up with demand or new cars could end up being only affordable to the elite. They are increasing in price at a higher rate that wages or inflation. Something will have to give at some point.
