Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well at least vettell seemed to have known he’d ****ed up but the stewards won’t probably look at that.

Yeah that's fine, just wondering. Can't see much to not like about him. Suppose he does have weirdly girl-ish eyes. :pac:

I'm sure Vettel is massively pissed off considering the pace he seemed to have. Blame has to rest with the team in these situations. If it puts him off by a tenth of a second that could mean 5 places in Q3.

Alonso had the sunglasses on and the face mask pulled all the way up marching back from the garage. Looked to be absolutely fuming under it all

Yep that destroyed both Vettels and Alonsos qualifying. He was stuck in a queue and had nowhere to go, he moved offline as soon as he could which sacrificed his ability to start his own lap, but it was already too late. He’ll be stuck starting outside the top ten on soft tyres tomorrow which won’t be easy.

Would love it if Norris can stay ahead of Hamilton. Come on Perez.

What a lap from Lando, so so close to his first pole. Gutted for him to miss out but what an effort

    How close was Norris!!

Wow, that was absolutely phenomenal from Norris.

Norris and Russell a couple of stars. Really hope they get a chance soon and don't end up like Ricciardo.

Really enjoyable quali, what a lap from Norris. Would love to see him on a podium tomorrow!

Super from Lando and kept it between the lines this time. Fantastic for Russell too. Danny Ric must be scratching his head big time.

Georgie boy might be starting p8 if seb gets that penalty!

Lando " Everyone in orange supporting McLaren" :D

Gasly, tsunoda, vettel and stroll all starting on softs tomrorow, they seem to think that might resign them to a two stopper, if Russell and Williams play a blinder tomrorow they could score some nice points, vettel will assumably get a grid penalty also pushing him to p8.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,472 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Can’t remember what tyres Perez set his best time in Q2, was it the softs? Either way he’ll need to try jump Norris early tomorrow.

They're both starting on mediums for the race

Lando and Perez as a nice cushion between him and the Mercs. Barring a problem with the car it'll be a handy win.

He is. I really did not expect this. I was a Richardo fan but he really seems to have lost his edge.

Perez did a 1.04.483 on mediums in first lap of Q2. Went out for a second lap on the softs but looked to have backed out.

Hamilton just now: "Yes, a win tomorrow is definitely out of the question".

If all else fails, try some reverse psychology...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,292 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Bottas reckons the car is set up more for race pace, Lewis sounds a bit dejected saying it will be an easy win for Max - if the McClaren wasn't up there i'd think it was purely mind games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,249 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Lets not forget that Lando started 3rd last time out and got swallowed up by Bottas and Perez early on. I think the McLaren isn't going to just magic up race pace out of nowhere.

    Even better so. :)

I’d be happy if the race ends with the same top 3 and Max extends his lead. Hopefully we’ll get some decent battles in the midfield, be nice if Alonso can bag some points.

Yep. I feel sorry for him, he’s in the same position he was in when he left RB, except he’s nowhere near his teammate.

You can’t imagine there’ll be many more moves he can make if this doesn’t work out.

Yeah that is the only worry unfortunately for Lando (and based off the field spread, also for the rest of the grid!) is the field spread is significantly greater in race trim than in quali trim. Fantastic effort from Lando. This year as labelled as crucial given his partnership with DannyR. He has risen to the challenge thus far and then some. Would genuinely like to see some solid race pace from the car tomorrow to let him mix it up with the front runners.

I'm a fan of Danny Ric but he really needs to get his act together, he shouldn't be that far behind his teammate. Mclaren should be best of the rest but Ricciardo could end up costing them places in the constructors

Talk of a Norris podium is a bit premature IMO. McLaren have better quali pace than race pace, Merc will still be close to a second a lap quicker tomorrow. Can only assume the engine modes are different, that one rule change seems to have hit Mercedes most when it comes to qualifying IMO.

No penalty yet for Vettel? He should start at the Styrian GP

No necessarily just Seb at fault

Just in case anyone was going to give Croft undeserved credit (:pac:) the commentary is from earlier than the driver tracker is from.

Vettel has to get a penalty then he should make sure someone in the team is fired. Bad enough to block someone at all but once he wasn't going to get a lap in they should've got him out of the way.

Vettle seemed to be oblivious to alonso behind him, almost as if he got startled by Alonso just before the last corner. Then gunned it to get around the corner and out of the way when he realised Alonso was there, the car gets out of shape which probably compounded the problem.

Was there a directive from race control for no overtaking in turns 9 and 10 though? It was mentioned in comms in relation to Hamilton flying past everyone last week

Don't really see where Vettel can go there if that's the case

RB seemed to save their pace for when it mattered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,659 ✭✭✭quokula

Looks like Bottas overtook Vettel then slowed right down, Vettel then had no choice but to back off, and both he and his team were caught out by this leading Alonso to come up on him when he had nowhere to go.

Mazepin got a lot of bad press for queue jumping a few races ago, then Hamilton did it last week and nobody seemed to complain so this week you had both Mercs and both Red Bulls get in on it, which ultimately destroyed qualifying for both Vettel and Alonso. They need to properly sort this out, as long as you have these short sessions and tyres that need such careful preparation we’re going to have more problems.
