For a moment I thought The Contract was about hired killers hunting Roy Keene :p

Is L.A.‘s Finest shooty-shooty-bang-bang like Bad Boys? Or just regular cop show?

I’d hope most people will have seen Akira, but if you haven’t it remains one of the towering accomplishments of both hand-drawn animation and cinematic sci-fi.

Particularly timely addition considering the Neo Tokyo Olympics fast approach :p

For mindless fun I see Nacho Libre was added. I had been looking out for it a while since I watched School of Rock with the kids.

Hobbs and Shaw, despite the "Fast and furious presents..." tagline, is actually a decent comedic action movie. So much better than the F&F ones anyway which is probably one of the reasons Vin Diesel was bent out of shape.

That Assault on Precinct 13 summary reads like the remake, though it has been a long time since I have seen either so wouldn't be sure. The original is iconic early John Carpenter, though my mind's eye suspects it has aged poorly for its pacing and budget.

The soundtrack in Akira is absolutely astounding as well. The only soundtrack I actually want to own on vinyl.

I haven't actually watched Akira in at least 15 years by my reckoning; time for another go. Should be an interesting experience, watching it an older (wiser???) head compared to the handsome, dashing youth I was fadó :pac:

There aren't enough "siege" movies anymore; they're such structurally relatable, easy to coordinate films it's a shame the "oh shít, we're surrounded with only X amount of ammo left" narrative is so passé now. Last I can immediately recall was Siege at Jadotville.

Been longer than that since I’ve seen Akira.

    I saw it in a cinema. I think it was 1989 - I know it wasn’t 88.

I owned it on DVD and I have it on iTunes but have held off watching until I replicate the cinema experience.

I finished the manga last year so this will be my first time watching it since then. Think have seen it twice before. Once when younger and second time when older and understood it better.

As for siege films, VFW is on there.

Hadn't heard anything about this. It has me very intrigued.

I have no interest in horror these days but I am curious about the whole Fear Night Trilogy concept. It seems like a real good idea and apparently is quite good so if successful could really set a template for future projects.

Looking forward to giving that a look, shame they aren't releasing it around Holloween though.

I only horrors and such at Hallowe’en.

I think though I will look at some summertime slashers over the summer. I haven’t seen that many of them. Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

    What can you folks recommend?

    Ah, right..

Friday the 13th remake is on there which is passable

The original Candyman is on there. Freddy vs Jason is there as well but I've never watched it.

Final Girls is great comedy about a group of friends getting stuck in a slasher flick.

I’ve never seen any Friday the 13th and never even thought of it. So thanks o for the reminder.

A slasher comedy is definitely of interest - plus this has reminded me that Tucker and Dale vs Evil needs a rewatch.

Candyman is one of those movies I have always wanted to see but it keeps eluding me. I might save it for Halloween though as I think it could be a proper spooky film.

I don’t think Hostel is my cup of tea.

Hills have Eyes is considered a classic isn’t it? I will have to check it out.

Is that the new Wrong Turn? Is it it good?
