I worry that Conor Murray getting the lions captaincy will impact on the time lions chat will get in the coming weeks after the euros. No idea when it starts to be honest.

Ah let them have it, sure there isn't much else to talk about.

They've had 9 football shows in a row, hopefully there should be more variety to their output for the next few weeks.

    I think that's reasonable comment :)

Tomorrow's pod will be an epic anyway.

Tournaments are my favourite time in second captains podding. Good quality chats nearly every day.

Not sure why Ken is questioning De Ligt's red so much. Seemed like a good use of VAR

Yeah, I really don't know what he was complaining about. Ultimately the correct decision was made, that's exactly what it was meant to do. Really felt like he was performatively finding fault.

Ken goes on about VAR way too much in my view. I found it interesting that when Eoghan tried to put an alternate reason to him for why the ref initially awarded only the yellow, it was obvious that he'd simply not thought about it like that before. He's got blinkers on with this issue.

Obviously, VAR isn't perfect, but a lot of the issues that have come to the fore since it has become part of the game were flagged beforehand for years by some pundits and analysts. I remember Tim Vickery used to always be notably sceptical of it because of its risk to interruption of the traditional flow of the game and the inherently open to interpretation quality to many of the decisions - but there seemed to a be demand for VAR that had to be satisfied. Ken wasn't against the idea back in the day as I recall either.

That's not to say some of the criticism of VAR isn't valid, but lets not forget that the tardy implementation of the technology was another stick that was used constantly for years to bash FIFA, UEFA et al - from across the media and from fans - as evidence of the authorities being hopelessly run by dinosaurs.

To me, it feels a bit rich for some now to be turning around and complaining ad-nauseum about the very thing they advocated as a quasi cure all for ages - especially if some of the complaints, like that totally deserved red card yesterday, are completely spurious.

And the genie is out of the bottle now. VAR is here to stay. If it was done away with, can you imagine the furore after the first big game is decided on a dodgy refereeing decision, the good old fashioned way. People would simply go apeshyte because they aren't using VAR anymore. It's naive to think otherwise.

Was Ken's point not the opposite. Alright de Ligt had to go but why did VAR then randomly do nothing about Pepe.

You'll be listening to football until the Olympics thankfully.

Still holding onto hope the lions will be cancelled
Hopefully a few more cases in the South African or lions squad will finish it off

Ken can't seem to get over the fact VAR is not and is never going to be perfect. I think as long as VAR is used to correct the obvious stuff and not used to draw lines from people armpits, it's better than what has gone before.

Regarding De Ligt, I had the very same opinion of Ken.

The only explanation I think is that the ref just messed up giving a yellow rather than red. Of course VAR telling him he made a mistake shames him into the right decision.

I'm not sure what it says when a "parochial little website" was seemingly the only outlet in the entire country to accurately cover the story.

It's hardly covering a story, just some guy going on a rant with the benefit of hindsight, and still gets it spectacularly wrong about McGuirk

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

With the benefit of hindsight? From what I can see that article was written in November of last year, at the time of the controversy. Maybe I'm mistaken though.

If you do know of anywhere else that covered it without seemingly jumping on the bandwagon though, I'd be interested in having a look.

The Swiss commentary bed is gold!

"Jah!? Jah?! Goal Check... Ja!! ! Ja!!!"

Literally had tears in my eyes from laughter listening to it.

Ken's "glugging drinks sound" game is freakishly strong.

Haven’t listened to today’s pod yet but yesterday’s was such a great one. Ken was really on it. Laughed so many times. Pickles, calling his cousin pathetic, going way off topic on Luke Shaw. “Is there anything else I can add before we move on?”.

Well take great care not to let anyone know what you're talking about.

Ken should definitely be allowed to bring up the 2007 Galway county final whenever he wants.

Listening to the OTB for an hour yesterday talking about the English game and listening to SC today made me really appreciate the lads again for about the hundredth time.

Lads ripping into murph for supporting England was hilarious. "Wanka"

Yeah, I've gotten over my Murph annoyance. He was genuinely pretty funny today and he's so much more witty and charming than any of the OTB characters. They all sounded the same.

They made me think of a bunch of corporate types having clearly defined bants on a company night out, but who'd eventually turn toxic with a load of booze in them.

Hilarious how he deflty weaved it into the conversation and it took a moment for it to register with Murph, cue his outrage for bringing it up yet again.

Do people really enjoy the over the top commentators shouting into the mic clips they and other podcasts have been playing. Never liked commentators doing that and certainly not listening to them all again and again.

The Swiss one - "yah?.... Yah!! YAAHHH!!" - was hilarious: you could tell it was just a guy genuinely losing his mind in the moment. And I got a chuckle out of the audio of the Spanish commentator just flatly and quietly saying "gol" after the Croatia equaliser, but, in general, it's a bit overdone.

Should of stayed on News talk except for Murph the unfunniest man on the planet.
