If you're only letting vaccinated people inside, then the staff aren't being put at any extra risk. The staff are all milling around indoors together as it is.

Vaccinated people can still spread the virus?

Staff are being put in a unacceptable level of risk with this plan

No, there is no question as to their purpose.

We've ****ty governments and state bodies in the past, did we go all hysterical and abolish the notion of a government and live in chaos since?

Nope, it's dumb idea to try justify the abandonment.

Thats a fools logic - and exactly why we are in this mess.

Plan to only allow vaccinated dine indoors looks to be illegal under the equality act

The whole 'vaccinated only' thing is a kite flying exercise IMO. Micheal will come out on the podium tonight and announce two more weeks before pubs open and we will all breathe a sigh of relief but if we weren't all so worked up about the kite, we'd be mad about the two more weeks.

I'm angry this morning. I've been supportive all along, as I felt that the indoor dining opening up was a real sign that this is over.

    But I'm angry today.

Millions have been vaccinated. The elderly are protected. Vulnerable are protected. The hospital numbers are very low. Case numbers are down. Zero deaths in weeks?

Why oh why oh why. Why aren't we opening. WHY.

But what can be done? Email the TDs, an email they won't read? March on the streets, to be lumped in with the loony anti-vax brigade?

That's the frustration of it. Knowing nothing can be done.

I feel sorry for those business folk who were making plans to open next week, full of optimism for the summer ahead, after a long, long winter and spring. Denied.

It sucks major you know what.

There will be undoubtedly demonstrations, but think about what you are protesting... That you can't drink inside a pub... I mean... Is it that big a deal?

    Yes.

And in a weeks time NPHET will have worse predictions because cases and hospitals numbers will be up by 2%

Maybe i can take over a pub. Vaccinated staff serving vaccinated people.
It gives us 50+ people a career opportunity.
Nice background instrumental music, little peat fire at the back. People quietly chatting over their pints. Comely older maidens.
Actually sounds pretty good to me.
Oh, and armed guards at the door.

If the covid cert was out it might work

Does legislation in other countries mandate carrying medical records on your person? Can people be prosecuted for using /forging/copying false information?
Can these certs be used illegally?

Simple quick solutions generally don't end well.
    Especially when proposed by NPHET.

Considering the Republic has in fact done incredibly well in the local geographical region in terms of the impact of this virus, it seems at best misinformed to say that NPHET are "bad" at their job.

They've certainly made a few missteps; even dropped a couple of clangers. But we've managed to get through this with a few scorch marks while our neighbour's house was a towering inferno. Credit where credit is due.

It seems 'misinformed' to only consider two numbers when deciding how well or not Ireland has done in dealing with the pandemic.

This time last year, we would have been shocked to think there would still be major restrictions a year later.

At this rate, I am starting to think come July 2022, we will still be having NPHET press conferences, lockdowns, sectors closed.

Most vulnerable are vaccinated. If anyone is worried, stay indoors and restrict your movements, but let the rest of us get on with our lives ffs.

    t.

Deaths not being reported due to cyber attack but I agree with your sentiment

I agree there's no question as to their purpose.

There is, however, a question as to their competence.

Exactly. Like seamus said, it's been handled pretty well for the most part, but the ball certainly seems to have been dropped now. But bizarrely people think the whole organisation should be disbanded. It's stupidity.

Don't worry lads, you can have an indoor meal on July 19th if you want, just not in Ireland. Dublin airport won't know what hit it.

I get the anger around the vaccine bonuses, but all of the arguments basically boil down to "I'd rather the restaurants continue to struggle than someone else get to do something I can't do". People would genuinely rather be turned away from a busy beer garden because there's no more seats, than allow some of the punters sit inside.

Can't see the government going for it either way. Begrudgery will ensure they get hammered for it

No they would rather the restaurant opened for everyone like they did last year with no vaccines

Nonsense. Insurers are allowed to price according to risk, i.e. to "discriminate". What is illegal is discrimination based on irrelevant characteristics, i.e. denying someone a job because of skin colour.

I think we can put to be the argument we are the most restricted country in Europe and the longest.

We love being told what to do. Or what we can't do.

Havent NPHET effectiviely undermined the vaccine rollout with these models? They are effectively saying vaccines dont work

I know, but if there were numerous deaths we'd hear about them somehow right?

Or, deaths would be used to scare people further into compliance. The whole thing is suspicious. I think the death number is either really low, or zero.

That means case numbers don't mean anything, as they aren't leading to hospitalisations, or deaths.

Yet we've been bombarded with the 'stark' warnings since last night.
This evidently is just a maximum fear generating exercise now.
And there is no one willing to call it out.

It’s not nonsense, it’s the law. It is illegal to deny a person entry to a premises because of a personal decision which they have a right to make

The introduction of a vaccine passport for indoor hospitality would be a great idea if it was 3 months ago, coupled with other optional passes such as a negative antigen test, negative PCR test or proof of recovery.

Can't wait to see the half arsed system they try to introduce on July 19th (or later).

    Do they achieve anything though?

Irish Water was a unusual situation as the way they went about things was flawed from the start.
