I went out for a short stroll at 4-3* to Murray in the 2nd, and suddenly he's serving for the match at 5-0 in the 3rd (... and gets broken).

I see Opelka is out, losing in straights to Koepfer.

Some men's matches won't get played until tomorrow. Bad luck for them, but no big names involved (quelle surprise!)

Great first set win by Murray. Delighted for him. Would be great if he won this match, he deserves it.

+1000 plus with the above and I wouldn't be Andy's biggest fan. Just amazing to see him back on the court and for the moment looks in pretty good shape, after what the man has been through.

Imagine the hype train in the UK and the BBC in particular, if Murray makes it to the second week and England are still in the euros!!

Big time, serving for the match now....but broke!
It is a serious achievement to get back playing at such a high level after that op.

But I will say....Andrew Castle is wrecking my fecking head on commentary... jingoistic nonsense

Some turn around from Basilashvili. If he wins this set he should be favourite. Murray looks to be struggling physically.

One drop shot too many there, basilashvili was waiting for them. 5 sets written all over it now.

Murray looks dead on his feet alas

This is painful to watch, and it could get worse still.

Sit down Judy, you're not going anywhere for a while yet.

A break for closing the roof, Murray badly needs that.

Crazy set of tennis. Thought that was another terrible choice of drop shot on set point too, had that point in the bag.

Disagree, look at the men’s matches today and in general at the slams, you very rarely see 6-0 6-1 6-0 type score lines. Sure I think Halep when she won Wimbledon had the final sewn up in an hour. Women’s tennis is tragic since 2010
Muguruza was playing Fiona Ferro.. she should be winning that match 60 61 in 50 minutes

Yeah he has to go get it himself, not the ball boy running around after him

Oof, just saw Sinner lost. I see Davidovich-Fokina lost also, there I was last night having notions he could give Djokovic a bit of a match in the third round

Also.. Murray led the third by 5-0?

The stronger serve is great leveller in the men's game, especially on faster surfaces. It often allows a much weaker player to get at least a couple of games a set, without ever really threatening. The proportion of service breaks is much higher in women's matches, even in tight sets.

Ironically, while this can make for many completely one-sided scorelines in women's matches, it can also lead to some very long matches. Almost all - if not all - the longest women's matches in history have involved "baseline" players with not especially strong serves (even by the standards of the women's game).

4th match point for Murray and he takes it....seriously gutsy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 646 ✭✭✭klr87

Phew ... Murray should thank his lucky stars they closed the roof when they did (right call though), as it gave him time to regroup.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Basilashvili just sort of folded in the end, serve went completely. Delighted for murray, not familiar with draw but if he got the week out of it, that would be something. Knowing him, he'll throw an epic 5 setter in there somewhere.

Murray plays a qualifier next, but he doesn't know who yet, as it was suspended at 9-9 in the 5th set.

Delighted for Murray, he has suffered an awful lot in the last couple of years, that match will have taken a huge toll on him, will be difficult for him to recover for the next match, but, best of luck to him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 646 ✭✭✭klr87

Still one match going, on Court 1: Heather Watson vs. Kristie Ahn. Ahn leads 2-6 7-6 7-6*. Watson had a match point on her serve at 5-4 ad. in the 3rd set.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 646 ✭✭✭klr87

... and Ahn, a lucky loser (and a former USO quarter-finalist), wins 8-6 in the 3rd.

Yet another painful defeat for Watson at a slam, and at Wimbledon in particular.

    Agreed.

He has a nice quarter to be fair, but its probably asking a lot to get to the last 16 and dragging out the match today doesn't help whatsoever.

Not shocked that Tsitsipas gone, not great on the surface and faced a player who actually done some grass court preparation before today.

Good win for Murray, happy for him and he has a super friendly draw now towards QF. Heather Watson has always been a very average player so hardly a shock seeing her go out. Most of my memories of her are 1st or 2nd round exits.

Christ, Andy Murray is so hateable - well it's more the BBC **** over him thats the problem, really hope he goes out as soon as possible, wouldn't surprise me if he won the tournament though, those knobs on Henman hill allready carried him to 2 titles...

He's one of the favourites now ffs!

in actual betting markets Murray is 50 to 1 :D

He's hardly won a match all year, how could he be one of the favourites, he has no chance of winning it, looked absolutely ****ed after last night, haven't looked at who he's playing next, but, wouldn't be surprised if he gets knocked out in next match.

Although Murray is a bit dour and lacking in personality, I wouldn't describe him as hateable.

Rain has stopped play again on all but Centre and #1 Court.

Barty served for the match against Suarez-Navarro, but Carla ended up winning the set 7-1in the tie break, much to the crowd's delight.

Zverev wrapped up his match on #1 Court without any problems.

Federer better diall it back a knotch here, he's liable to unforced error himself out of the tournament

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,114 ✭✭✭Augme

Novak has the legs to give up sets early in the tournament but Federrer really doesn't. Really can't see him having much chance this year. Still, a better one than Murray who needs a miner miracle to win it.

2-1 down now Federrer. Dropping out of the french open early and then gets dumped out of the first round of Wimbledon. Yikes.

Federrer through after Mannarino drops out due to injury. Very lucky boy.

To be fair he was probably gonna take it 6-2 anyway. Still could have gone either way in the 5th.

Even just avoiding the energy of a fifth set for him is a big help.

Serena Williams in big trouble here with an ankle injury.

No way she'll last the first set, never mind the match.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,114 ✭✭✭Augme

Sasnovich bumping the ball right back to Serena who can't move is the dumbest thing I have seen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,530 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

    And she's gone.

As much as I'm far from her biggest fan, that's an awful shame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 646 ✭✭✭klr87

Serena looks to be in all sorts of bother with an injury she sustained when she lost her footing ...

    ,... and she's retired.

When I seen what happened had a feeling that would be end of Serena's tournament. Still think Sasnovich would have given her a game.
