Well if they do decide to push the indoor dining back its absolutely farcical imo.

Leaving hotels open so you can go overnight to any hotel in the country with 50+ other people all sitting inside dining and drinking no problem. Plenty of hotels allowing non residents in as well if you know which ones.

But God forbid the restaurant next door could do the same!

New York: Researchers have found evidence that a coronavirus epidemic swept east Asia some 20,000 years ago and was devastating enough to leave an evolutionary imprint on the DNA of people alive today.

The new study suggests that an ancient coronavirus plagued the region for many years, researchers say. The finding could have dire implications for the current COVID-19 pandemic if it is not brought under control soon through vaccination.

“It should make us worry,” said David Enard, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Arizona who led the study, which was published on Thursday in the journal Current Biology. “What is going on right now might be going on for generations and generations.”

    Not exactly reassuring news.

Based on how we've dealt with this there's quite a chance of it unfortunately. We'll see. Only country in Europe without indoor dining and we're considering further delaying it. The defenders are in too deep now though to question it. I expect the NPHET/government supporters to fully welcome any delay if it happens without question.

You just keep repeating the same thing week on week. This was from last week when you thought people saying indoor dining would be delayed were wrong.

From July 5th (subject to the public health situation at the time)

Bars and restaurants - Indoor services can resume

Despite the caveat, I can't currently see anything that's going to delay that date.

"We have to allow time for a booster vaccine during the winter to deal with variants. Restrictions will be needed until that is in place."

I see a report this evening in the Irish examiner Overrun Emergency Departments can expect 'apocalyptic' conditions this winter, medic warns. Not entirely covid related but a combination of numerous factors. The approach to date has primarily focused on protecting vulnerable and hospitals systems (rightly I might add), my genuine concern is the Hospital systems are crippled still, 6 weeks after the cyber attack, god forbid if hospitalisations increased (I'm not saying they will) but I'm not sure some realise the pressure hospitalis are currently under and this with relatively low covid numbers.

I see the fictional scenarios are in full flow once more

I have the ability to travel backwards and forwards through time.

Here is a conversation that took place on this thread on January 14th 2022, seven months from now:
We're still on track for reopening but the success of the rollout of the booster shots depends on preventing Zeta variant from becoming the dominant strain.
    Graham wrote:
The most recent data on Zeta variant is unequivocal in terms of transmissibility
Yes but the precise effect of the booster shots on Zeta is still unknown

I was going to go to the cinema because it's super cheap right now but they are providing food and drink and don't require masks to be worn in the cinema, they say the distancing is enough, hmmm in an enclosed space?

I'm not sure if it's been said here and I just missed it in the general churn of the thread.

Just a reminder that if you believe a delay to our already rather cautious reopening is the wrong action on the part of the government you should contact your TDs now before the decision is publicly announced. Tell them that you oppose a further delay and explain why. If the TD is a member of Government or a member of a party in Government and, as in my case, a decision to delay would impact your willingness to vote for a member of said party in future elections tell them that too.

It may be more impactful than just posting / lurking on Boards waiting for the other shoe to drop. :)

Business Post referring to indoor dining but nothing about any of the other restrictions. Hope to christ they raise the attendances at matches for example.

Business post front page tomorrow says government is considering pushing back the reopening of indoor dining to 19th July, the logic being that second doses to the 60-69 year olds will be complete by then.

Someone should probably tell them that 1 dose of the vaccine is over 90% effective at preventing hospitalisation, even for the Delta variant.

Or, you know, maybe the rest of us could get on with our lives and the 60 - 69 year olds could stay home for 2 weeks.

If that turned out to be true, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world (easy for me to say as someone not in that industry). But we have been lied to and led along the path so many times now that it's just hard to believe that will actually happen and it won't be extended further. If the delta variant is as contagious and dangerous as they say cases are only going to go up between now and then. Hopefully you are right.

Loads of stuff for kids indoor is due to come back in July, indoor sports, play areas etc. Would be terrible if this was also pushed back but no mention of this so maybe will proceed.

Paddy Mallon wouldn't exactly be someone who would be seen as gung ho and would've been in favour of most of the restrictions over the last year and a bit. I particularly agree with point 7. We're at risk of wasting the safest part of the year.

I've gone to the cinema twice already in the last 3 weeks. Was a really really great experience. People are far away and the room is huge. I'd recommend it.l, you won't get a more comfortable screening in future with regards space and good seats with no obstruction.

Quote from the sunday time's front page:

"Ministers resigned themselves to a delay of at least two weeks to the reopening of indoor hospitality, with one senior government source saying the challenge now was to ensure the full return date for pubs and restaurants did not slip past July 19th."

"Senior sources said other changes on July 5th were unlikely to be affected, such as the return of communion and confirmation ceremonies in churches, the number of guests at a wedding increasing from 25 to 50, and the doubling of crowd numbers at club soccer and GAA matches from 100 to 200."

Masks may be more effective as a “source control” because they can prevent larger expelled droplets from evaporating into smaller droplets that can travel farther so if others aren't wearing a mask then they are increasing my chances of exposure, whereas if I have the virus and I wear a mask I am decreasing theirs.

Interesting to see the reason is doses over case numbers. Maybe they are saving the case number excuse until the 19th July.

Norman - you do know how masks work yes? And that you wearing one protects others and vice versa. Surely to dodge at this stage of the Pandemic this is common knowledge?

You are right however not if its then taken off and shoved in a pocket and then put back on again. Then put into the well of the car, then back on etcetera.

I honestly don't know what's the point of a cabinet meeting, its only for show. What do they want to discuss, It's going to be whatever NPHET advise. They are already saying they expect it to be delayed as they think thatll be the advise even though NPHET might not even advise that.

That still does not change how masks actually work.

Any careless handling of a mask is more likley to impact the wearer than others imho.
