I don't think many are expecting lockdowns after everyone is vaccinated.

I'm not sure why anyone would think they'd be necessary.

Most of the public will be vaccinated by then. I’m interested how people will react to another lockdown

The epsilon variant will be 99.99% more transmissible, the vaccine will only be somewhere between 80- 90% effective, and the old folks need the new booster which isn’t available in large amounts yet. As long as the government pays out again, people will be just delighted to get back to baking and interior decorating.

Right. Can I hear your fiction of how winter 2021 will look? Let’s see who is closer in a few months.

2 weeks ago a fictional scenario for some was that the reopening of indoor dining etc wouldn’t happen and yet here we are.

Quoting you, you’ll owe me a tenner when epsilon turns up.

Usually I associate city anti lockdown protests with fringe groups. But I was very surprised to not see this covered on MSM today. A huge turnout in London on against continuing Covid restrictions.

A lot of these groups seem to former Brexit groups. Worrying indeed.

And they’re more open than us with indoor dining…

Another "pilot event" being held in Killarney tonight. Details below

The capacity is going to be a massive 4%. What are we going to learn from this exactly?

Absolute tripe, pure covid theatre and nothing else

Rte reporting on this and falling over themselves about how successful it was and interviewing punters who say its great to be back to normal!!!! The female reporter stated how it felt like there was 2000 at the Gig

I've no doubt there will. be new variants.

If you want to play guess the characteristics of those variants, I'll leave you to it.

And yet all to often these fictional scenarios come to fruition. Stories that you had us believing were far fetched only a couple of weeks back are now rumoured to be true from the usual government sources.

They are planning to meet earlier next week as they want to keep the publicans shut up from complaining about uncertainty. You seriously think they are meeting earlier with the aim of letting them open? Wise up ffs

They are meeting as the vintners and restaurant associations have successfully lobbied that they need time to plan and many could not plan reopening if uncertainty remains until the end of the week

    I’ll have a go.

“The new **** variant is said to be 40-50% more transmissible than the previous **** variant. It is not known whether this variant can evade current vaccines. NPHET are deeply concerned about **** variant and have stated that the public health advice should be followed and any kind of social gatherings around Halloween should be avoided.”

Business post front page tomorrow says government is considering pushing back the reopening of indoor dining to 19th July, the logic being that second doses to the 60-69 year olds will be complete by then.

Someone should probably tell them that 1 dose of the vaccine is over 90% effective at preventing hospitalisation, even for the Delta variant.

Or, you know, maybe the rest of us could get on with our lives and the 60 - 69 year olds could stay home for 2 weeks.

Well for one, just a couple of months back everyone was convinced inter county travel would be prevented until July, politicians were briefing, and then they were gone.

But in general, before each change there is lots of sh*t talked as politicians with no influence seek to retain some relevance as “sources”. I would safely say at no stage have these “rumours” as a whole become fact except when on the record quotes attributed to the likes of varadkar.

Good to see it hasn't actually been decided before the most recent data is available.

Quite a possible scenario I think based on the extreme caution we've shown in this country to date. 200 people at a gig in a 4,500 capacity arena tonight is being hailed as a success. It's ridiculous.

2 weeks is just stupid. Is 2 weeks going to make or break the situation? Not a chance. Yet those 2 extra mid summer weeks of closure could sink many businesses. Just open up ffs.

Yeah Sunday Times also say 19th. Independent saying 2-3 weeks to the 26th at the latest. Varadkar appearently calling for absolute certainty on a reopening date if delayed
