Sounds like your local hotels are ignoring the guidelines, I remember they go into some detail about the number of open sides and distance to walls etc.

I'm thinking back around any I've seen, the most they'd have is a canvas roof.

I suppose it's like anything, there's always going to be a few that chance their arm.

Pretty much every pub, restaurant and hotel breaking the silly and pointless restrictions at this stage from what I have seen.

No table service, no sanitising tables, large groups together outdoors, hotels letting non residents in for food and drink, pubs letting people inside. There is zero enforcement of it.

Yeah we really need an iveagh Gardens style gig to tell us if it's safe or not outdoors.

Well yes, the first gig has to be a basically zero risk situation, then you work up.

When the very first trial worked, why did any country bother with trials?

You still need the data, at the very least for insurance reasons, yes we're late collecting the data, but every country needs to collect it.

You don't think looking across Europe they could at least be a bit more ambitious, its like nphet coming out with the rubbish about no antigen studies have been completed.

And again, if they kicked off the process around Easter I'd have supported it.

But they wait until the virus is pretty crushed in the community anyway to be extra sure.

It's kinda like a man that has had the snip still wearing a condom with a woman who is on the pill to make sure there is no pregnancy.

Why does it have to be zero risk though at this stage, we are so over cautious at everything we do, from restrictions yo crowds to antigen testing, we have to be the last. Why is this, nobody can tell me.

Every so often these theories about masks (and distancing) forever appear on here, usually based on some random comment or opinion piece. Those polls linked a few pages back should also be taken with a large grain of salt IMO. If you ask certain people for their view during the middle (or latter stages as it probably is now) of a pandemic, that view will clearly be biased by current developments in the pandemic - i.e. in this case the big, bad Indian variant

So I think it's difficult to draw any meaningful conclusions from these kind of polls, apart from their ability to provide a nice dramatic headline for some media organisations. Instead I prefer to look at what is happening in countries ahead of us in vaccinations for an insight into our future. Two good examples are Israel and the USA. Here nearly all restrictions (bar a few states) are gone. That is the future, no masks, no distancing, no restrictions on gatherings. And it's not too far away either. Unfortunately, international travel will be an issue for much longer but, tbh, I can live with that.

Quite simply because we have a lame duck Taoiseach, a government afraid of their shadow and an opposition who are, well, derived from a terrorist organisation.

Alot of the pubs in villages never actually adhered to the restrictions. My local pub never closed. Would allow you drink in the back bar which could not be seen from the main street. You'd enter through the yard at the back of the pub which ya went through a graveyard to get to. Could have 20 to 30 lads in there each night. Was funny seeing the brewery delivering kegs to the bar when we were in harsh level 5 lockdown. Local Gardaí were regular customers aswell.

Local hotel only last week allowed myself and my wife, aunt and uncle in for Saturday night dinner and drinks. Weren't residents. Few locals in there aswell who I doubt were residents either.

Down with the brother in law in the west a few months ago, same thing. In the bar Saturday afternoon. Owner said gardai were regulars and he was ok as long as he "didn't want the piss"

A brewery was delivering kegs to this bar when we were in harsh level 5 lockdown. Were they delivering a large pinch of salt with each keg as well

How they are talking about it as a possiblity?

Can you reformulate that in meaningful English?

That article does not state what you claimed.
It says nothing about the U.K. going into lockdown next winter due to influenza.

They are discussing it as an option though, which was all I was saying never said it was definite.

If you believe that they are, then you need to re-read and re-listen to the link you posted.
It has nothing to do with your claim that they are considering using lockdown next Winter to combat influenza.
She is clearly referring to Covid and with increased vaccination, (similar to them NOT having used lockdowns to combat influenza), she does not expect they will use lockdown to combat Covid this Winter.

Dear pubs/restaurants: You can only serve drink outdoors. Please note it is illegal to serve drink outdoors.

Safe to say that'll be addressed early next week probably. You'd be hard pressed to find a Garda enforcing that
