Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi Ads by Google,

I'm sorry to hear that you're encountering some slowdown. Unfortunately, there's nothing that I can see in any of the logs that highlights any server issues that indicate that there is an issue or that we can look into further.

No problems at all for me but then I am not in a developing country on the far side of the world.

No problems at all for me but then I am not in a developing country on the far side of the world.

It fails with the Cloudfare error saying I'm fine, they're fine, but boards.ie has an SSL handshake error. You can Google that and see it's the website's issue, not a developing country issue. I have a better connection to a Dublin ISP than my mum does from rural Monaghan.

If Irish users are getting directly onto the site, whereas international users are going through Cloudfare or something like that, and that's causing issues, then it's something that could be fixed.

It's also very annoying that there is some Ajax call being made while reading a page without any error checking so if that call fails with the SSL error, the page crashes. Pretty jarring while reading a thread. Error checking to prevent catastrophic failure in the event of a predictable scenario is coding 101.

I haven’t read back but the site has been slow for me for ages. If I’m on wifi it’s glacial in its loading.
Have 44meg wifi so I’m fairly sure that’s not the issue. No other site does this. I can open other forums in seperate tabs, swop tabs, refresh and come back to boards and it will still be loading

    PS; am in Australia

    Hello team,
just to let you know that for the last 30 minutes or so, boards is a bit slow. I am on a laptop on the full site (not touch)
Navigation between pages takes a few seconds more than usual, I had 3 cases of blank/white screen and one case where a thread took me to the second last page instead of the last page of the thread.
Not much of a bother anyway, just thought to share this with you :)

White pages, slow opening of threads, follow thread freezing amongst a few issues tonight.

Don't expect anything from life, just be grateful to be alive.

Thanks for the reports guys, did it pick up after this or are you still having issues?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,530 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

I've got a few blank white pages (with headers, just no list of threads) this morning - if I refresh it fixes itself.

And half the time, the big block BOARDS.IE on the top left corner is missing.

On the full site on desktop.

ETA - the hyperlink (if that's what it's called?) at the top left still works, just the words aren't there..... so doesn't affect anything, but it's just a bit odd!

    Same problem here.

    Also posting from Australia.

Been going on for at least 4 weeks.

    Site is mostly unusable.

    All other sites loading instantly.

Could it be a location issue ?

Is it worth asking in the Australia forum ?

Nah, I've been having the same problem for ages from Asia. Cloudflare is just set up wrong and boards.ie haven't fixed it.

Just reclick links if it seems slow and it resends the request and works.

You’re correct. That does work but not every time.

    It’s fairly torturous.

Not sure if this is the thread to raise it- is there any issue with PM's at present?

Sent two in the last fortnight or so without any acknowledgement

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,530 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

May or may not be related to the above, but the last couple of PM's I got came through, but the email notification for them came waaay later (like, a week or so).

No issue with PMs themselves at the moment but as the user below has pointed out, notification emails for some people are being delayed so they may not have received notification of your messages right away.

Oh I meant that the people you sent messages might not have received a notification so unless they were logged in anyway and noticed the PM, they might have missed it.

Is the search function acting up?

When attempting to search for a user (to pm), and clicking on the name that appears under user, the system simply freezes instead of directing you to their profile or any of their posts.

Every time I go on boards, the cookie warning comes up. That’s fine, I guess. But once I hit ‘okay’, boards.ie switches over to the touch site. It’s very irritating having to scroll down every time to switch back over to the full site. And sometimes it happens again during browsing: cookie warning —> touch site. I’m never going to use the touch site and this feels like an attempt to foist it upon people, hoping they’ll give up making the switch back to the full site.

I’m having the same problem. Getting the ‘Accept Cookies’ box appearing, I accept & the site changes to the other version. While I’m navigating down to click ‘Full Site’ the ‘Accept Cookies’ box reappears.

Used to get the cookie request/version change thing happen maybe once every couple of weeks, has something on the site changed recently?

Try the "save and exit" option instead of "accept" ?

In order to click ‘save & exit’ I have to go into ‘cookie settings’, scroll to the bottom of that page & then click ‘save & exit’. Tried it now when the cookies box appeared anyway to check your suggestion but it’s just adding more steps to the whole process AND the site version still changed & a second cookie box appeared again while scrolling down to click to switch back to the full site.

This cookie box/site version switch thing was happening to me before Niamh, but I was only getting the cookie request box appearing maybe once every 3/4 weeks or something. Having it happen at least once per day recently is a noticeable annoyance & the double cookie box thing started at the same time as the daily cookie box change. I haven’t changed any settings/software etc on my device.

    Thanks TherapyBoy.

    I deployed an update.

The next time you are logged into the full site on your phone, can you click "Cookie Settings" in the footer to launch it, save your settings, and let me know if you still get redirected touch?

Discovered the problem, this happens when I only 'save & exit." If I click "accept' on the new cookie box, then voila, search works!

On the mobile site if you click into one of your followed threads you usually go to the first unread post. For threads that haven't been updated in ages, I usually go to the first page, and have to find the first unread. I've noticed that this now seems to be happening for more threads - is there a specific timespan that this should affect? (hope this makes sense)

As far as I remember if you haven't visited the thread in 2 weeks, your last read post will be forgotten and you'll be returned to the first page when you click on the thread.
Though I don't think that should happen when it's the thread itself that has had no activity (rather than you not reading for a period of time).

Will have to check that one and get back to you.

On the issues that some of you are having with Search, i.e. the drop down suggestions are unclickable, we're pretty sure we know what that is and are looking into it at the moment.

I'm having similar problems. I use the search bar to get to certain forums. Previously, I'd type in, say, vaping and then click on the resulting suggestion. Now that doesn't work. Hasn't worked for maybe a week?
