Are the Gardai actually handing out fines for unessential travel in Dublin airport? I mean in the last week or two.

You still have to quarantine on your return.

MHQ at a cost of nearly €2k?

    Nope.

    Nope.

Nope indeed, ordinary home isolation quarantine, unless you're coming from a category 2 country.

    Keep up :pac:

Just to add there’s a a lot of Irish folk on breaks away here, spoken to many and suspect there’s multiples more.

If the government are going to half arse it then this what happens. I make no apologies. I’ve done nothing illegal.

In 4 weeks time people here in London will have 90% of their freedoms restored. You will be lucky to go watch your local junior b team play a match in Ireland such is the over reaction. Leinster wanted to trial a match with 2k fans a few weeks ago. Not allowed. We gave up the chance to hold Euro soccer games here because we are cowards.

Why are people persisting with Dublin airport? Train up to Belfast and away you go, no problems. €40 return instead of some €100 PCR test and being made feel like a criminal.

The apologists’ posts on here for the most restricted country in the EU is quite something to behold.

Life is short, very short. Go enjoy it.

Depends where you go. If you are travelling from the UK maybe you might have restrictions placed on you

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/19/coronavirus-covid-british-tourists-to-eu-may-have-to-quarantine-even-if-vaccinated

"if you get on the wrong train, get off at the nearest station, the longer it takes you to get off, the more expensive the return trip will be."

Who was saying travelling to Belfast was illegal or trying to get "people banned"?

Afaik its common knowledge that from May 24, people in Northern Ireland will be able to make non-essential trips to other parts of the Common Travel Area including the UK, the Republic of Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

However the Northern Ireland government has yet to announce any relaxation of its international travel rules.

A now banned poster was highlighting people 'talking about flouting the rules'. One of those posts was only talking about going to Belfast anyway but was painted as something else. The other information I was very much aware of thanks.

I’m mainly referring to the UK.

Quite shocking there’s no provisions in place for us to travel there unabated from Dublin. But no, let’s give the UK exchequer our money instead. EasyJet are laughing.

    Common travel my arse.

    Why would they not be?

It must be very small numbers right now. There was one officer on duty in T1 the other day. I doubt he would have the resource for many serious discussions with passengers.

I'll be one of them soon too. 4 weeks time sunshine (hopefully), indoor dining , a wealth of choice for tourist and hotel and food options meaning you can avoid being gouged, unlike here.

No issue doing 5 days and test/release on my return but equally no chance of meeting a gard or getting a 2k fine. Goodnight and good luck dublin.

    Enjoy.

The train up to Belfast is actually a very nice experience.

Already noticing people here are ditching masks in shops and no one cares. Great to see. Far more relaxed than Ireland.

That's because they have more than half the population vaccinated and far fewer cases than we do.

This may have already been posted as its from yesterday but its so worth sharing again anyway :D

I wish I had a TD like Michael McNamara in my area to vote for. He's the only TD who's talking any sense on Covid since the beginning.

The cheek of Michael Martin to try suggest we weren't out of sync with the rest of the world in terms of our travel restrictions and our messaging to public on international travel.

How are they calculating the 14 day rate per 100,000?

They say its 124.4 for Ireland for example.

What happened to “vaccinate the vulnerable and life continues”.

That went went by the wayside very fast. About 100 in hospital out of 5,000,000 and here we are still with this nonsense.

    Fickle.

Thanks Lumen - the latest file from Garda says 252 in April and 4 in May up to the 13th. That suggests a slow-down. 2 possible reasons: the gaurds are easing up, or there are fewer people trying to fly without good reason!

I booked a holiday for the end of July to the USA. If the USA has no problem with me going im not gonna let the irish government deter me. I'll pay whatever fine im losing my mind i need to get away.

Its pretty likely USA will lift its restrictions on Fully Vac'd European visitors pretty soon, fully vac people dont even have to wear masks anymore over there.

Where are you picking that from? The UK clearly haven't done that- yet you think Ireland should not bother vaccinating the rest of its population?

I'm calling that out as bs.

The US said in March that they would make an announcement mid-May, but after cases surged across the EU there hasn't been a peep out of them. They haven't even lifted restrictions on the UK, despite the airlines putting the pressure on. You might end up rebooking that flight.

Not fiction. MM said in a public address last November that we need to hold tight until our most vulnerable are protected, They’re now protected yet here we are with harsher restrictions on travel than one year ago.Explain that?I look forward to the wall of ‘bs’ (as you call it) you’ll no doubt reply with.

    That's not what you quoted
    Swaine wrote:

Link to that. Last November- there were no vaccines available here. So whatever he might have said then is irrelevant eitherway.

    So yeah that remains.

You didn't answer why you're ok with the UK opening up with a high level of vaccination but for some strange reason think that's not necessary for Ireland ...

    Why is that?

No chance UK will be going anywhere on holiday's till mid July at the earliest, apart from Green list countries which will be added to slowly.

Right so they won't, except for all the countries that they will. A list that's growing every fortnight.

    Gotcha.

Its free to change date anyway but Im hopeful, the USA arent as psycho about covid as Ireland.

That's exactly what I'd like to happen yes. Once the vulnerable are vaccinated, every country should be opening up or at least rolling out a plan to do so.

If you want to cower under your bed and tut at the sound of aeroplanes over head, you are free to do so.

How do you know who is vulnerable? We need too vaccinate a critical mass of the population to see the back of this for good, hopefully. If we don't we are open to new variants.

Dude. Look at the stats. Hospital rates are normal. Covid isn’t hospitalising people like it did months ago. The pandemic is over, the vaccines work.
