I don't pay much attention to or even mention about RTE reporting as some do go overboard about it but when you see this you can see why. RTE reporting false reports in a story that would inevitably have been posted here to push the 'variant' story more.

The evidence is already showing the vaccines work against the indian scary wary bed wetting variant. The HCW’s in India that are vaccinated are not getting sick ( or if they are very mild symptoms) no serious illness.

I’m getting more and more confident most of Southern Europe will drop all entry requirements within the next few weeks.

Got a notification today from the Dutch government on their travel app for Ireland:

09:35 R Latest developments Last modified on: 14-05-2021 Still valid on: 14-05-2021 Latest developments travel advice Ireland From Saturday, May 15, after a stay in Ireland, you do not have to go into (home) quarantine in the Netherlands. There is also no obligation to test before returning to the Netherlands. As a traveler from the Netherlands, you must be quarantined (at home) upon arrival in Ireland.

So good news for the return to the NL for myself, progress anyway.

So Irish people could visit and not need even a test? Or is it just for Dutch residents?

Wales have announced today that they are on board with the traffic light system with only a change in the test to release part, as they won't be doing that. Only Northern Ireland now that hasn't announced their firm plans for travel.

Boris holding conference later too on the Indian variant, hopefully that doesn't scupper it too much.

Seems to imply no test and no quarantine for any traveller from Ireland to NL effective tomorrow. It's as clear as mud though.

If he’s doing a conference you can be sure to expect bad news.

I wonder if it's to do with the info on this page and Ireland just hasn't been added on there yet?

This is all hypothetical I know but just humour me.

Ireland enters into restriction free travel with UK in next 3 weeks. €2,000 travel fine remains for any other destination until introduction of EU travel cert. Whats to stop anyone getting the cheapest possible flight from Dublin to London, showing that boarding pass to the guard at the Terminal but actually hopping on the plane to the Canaries with a flight they have previously purchased.

I'd say the airline will ask to see a selfie of you, the guard and the Canaries boarding pass before letting you on ðŸ˜

Well if this their 3rd trip then in theory they couldve been fined by the gards for the 1st two, same as the rest of us.

We can all book a flight to New York and go to the airport. People just dont because of the fine.

The injustice of allowing inward travel whilst preventing outbound travel isnt really those lads fault either to be fair and if they are Irish they can come home if they want.

If the dont follow quarantine rules that's a whole other matter

Well no, going home to where you live is essential travel.

There's no law against entering the state.

So no, they couldn't have been fined.

Nothing stopping you but your double booking would be considered suspicious

Same as now, but a ticket to Donegal or Kerry which are domestic travel.

'Italy to scrap mandatory quarantine for visitors from some countries

Italy will scrap mandatory quarantine from Sunday for visitors from the European Union, Britain and Israel who test negative for COVID-19, the government said on Friday as it looks to give summer tourism a boost'

With the way things are still going on the continent i cannot see much travel going out of the UK for the next couple of months.

If you're not immediately flagged by buying 2 flights at the same time, you'd be marked when you scan your boarding pass at the gate.

The point is that many aren't vaccinated yet and consequently are dying of it. India is in a bad way and shows the need to vaccinate a critical mass before opening up.

Why would you not just scan one boarding pass for the love of God? The London one is to show to a gard before you go through. The tenerife one is the one youd actually scan.

Same story holding a boarding pass for a flight to donegal

"Youd be marked" ...honest to God! By who ?! How?!

Your point isn’t relevent to my argument regarding the point i was making with another poster. I was talking about the effectiveness of the vaccines against the current strains that they do work against. Two completely different things we are talking about. For some reason i feel you’re trying to win an argument against me by making a point about something else. Bizarre….

I’ll repeat i’m talking about the effectiveness of the vaccines not about the current spread situation or how many are vaccinated in India.

You scan your boarding pass twice, once to get through to security, once at the gate, so in this hypothetical scenario you either scan 2 separate boarding passes or you scan one to a country with a fine.

Indian variant is a threat to relaxation of restrictions in the UK. We must try to stop its spread here. See below

Exactly this, that’s why I think they’ll drop the 2k fine as soon as they open up the UK, otherwise it’ll be unworkable.

I think we’re going the same way as wales, travel is legal again but please don’t be going on holidays.....

The important part of the article :

“However, he did say there was "no evidence" to suggest the vaccines currently in use would be less effective against the B.1.617.2 strain.“

Might I just add, I’ve watched the U.K. press conference. It seems they’re going to try and break the chains of transmission by vaccinating high numbers where the Indian variant is spreading. They’re also continuing with reopening on Monday. US have also announced they’re dropping mask wearing for fully vaccinated people. So all in all, it seems if vaccination numbers are high, the Indian variant won’t get a chance to cause too many issues. EU need to continue their programme as quickly as possible.

That is the key in bold above.
